Although welterweight Brad Blackburn fell short in his Bellator debut last Thursday to Dan Hornbuckle, Blackburn will fight at least once more for the promotion, MMAFighting.com learned Thursday.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney has retained Blackburn’s services based on Blackburn’s performance against Hornbuckle at Bellator 25 in Chicago, where Blackburn looked the best he’s had in years and even dropped Hornbuckle in the first round.

“It was a very close fight. I got right hand happy and I went away from our gameplan. Rookie mistake and I won’t make it next time. I stopped boxing because I wanted to get my knockout,” Blackburn told MMAFighting.com after the fight. “I haven’t had one [in a long time] and I got too focused on that, and I stopped fighting the fight how me and my coaches and corner had planned.”

Bellator FC rolled into Chicago this week, in the second stop of the season 3 tour. On the menu for the evening are two heavyweight tilts, one women’s featherweight bout, and a handful of showcase fights. Bellator has continued to sign talent, and they bring in a few UFC vets to fill out the card: Brad Blackburn (3-2 UFC) is matched up with Dan Hornbuckle, who came up short last season in the welterweight tournament. Brian Gassaway lost to Diego Sanchez back at UFC 54 when Diego was the next big thing, and he faces off against fellow one-and-done Zuffa employee Kevin Knabjian, who lost to Brock Larson in the WEC. And for those of you who enjoy the finer things in life — pimpin’, traveling the world, and spinning elbows, Bellator presents Mr International himself, Shonie Carter.

Bellator has done everything they can to ensure an entertaining show. Will the tournaments continue to be action-packed? Will one of these vets make a statement with their performance? Will Jimmy Smith and Sean Wheelock correctly pronounce “Megumi Fujii”? Will Cole Konrad come out in a singlet, bro-ssiere, maybe both?

Well, I have some answers for you. You may not like them, but I got them….

A welterweight bout between Dan Hornbuckle and Brad Blackburn has been added to the August 19 Bellator 25 card in Chicago, which is shaping up as a very strong night of fights for the second show of the upstart promotion’s third season.

Hornbuckle was generally recognized as the favorite to win Bellator’s Season 2 welterweight tournament, but he was upset in the final against Ben Askren. He’ll fight for the first time since that loss when he takes on Blackburn, a UFC veteran with a 3-2 record inside the Octagon and a 15-11 record overall.
