You could drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what’s going on in Fedor Emelianenko‘s head at any given moment.

His facial expression and physical demeanor are no help, since they rarely change. If you ask what’s on his mind you’re likely to get an answer that ranges somewhere between bafflingly cryptic and unhelpfully vague.

The man is an enigma wrapped up in a riddle and stuck inside one of those Russian nesting dolls. He’s like an ancient Greek oracle, where the answer he gives is always more complicated – or perhaps just more frustratingly simple – than it seems at first.

Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Predictions

Fedor Emelianenko vs Antonio Silva As Bas Rutten said on Inside MMA, this is not an easy fight for Fedor and I agree. However, Mike Kyle was 1 clean punch away from finishing off Silva in their recent fight. Fedor will not likely make the same mistake. I lean towards Fedor here, but Silva will […]

Fedor Emelianenko vs Antonio Silva

As Bas Rutten said on Inside MMA, this is not an easy fight for Fedor and I agree. However, Mike Kyle was 1 clean punch away from finishing off Silva in their recent fight. Fedor will not likely make the same mistake. I lean towards Fedor here, but Silva will be handful just in the size department alone. I don’t think it will be easy, but Fedor will catch Silva because his head is a large target and Fedor has pinpoint accuracy.

Andrei Arlovski vs Sergei Kharitonov

Arlovski is the faster more technical striker. In fact much more. Kharitonov is the russian bear and swings like it. He swings tight inside hooks and if he connects its trouble for Arlovski who has had trouble against heavy big punchers such as Tim Sylvia, Brett Rogers, and Fedor Emelianenko. If Arlovski can execute the gameplan he probably wanted to do against Brett Rogers he should be able to beat Kharitonov easily.

The Reserve Bouts

Shane Del Rosario vs Lavar Johnson

Could be the best fight of the night. I’m leaning towards Lavar, but Del Rosario is clearly the more talented fighter. I just have this feeling the toughness and power of Johnson will get him the victory.

Chad Griggs vs Gianpiero Villante

Chad Griggs.

Valentijn Overeem vs Ray Sefo

Ray Sefo. Overeem is coming off a monster layoff.

NEW YORK — With its anticipated Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament just days away from beginning, Strikeforce and its emboldened CEO Scott Coker are still entertaining the possibility of hosting its April event in Japan.

After a press conference for Saturday’s show to be held at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Coker said he planned to continue working to make the Japan event a reality, though time is running short.

“I think I’m going to give it one more week, and then if not, we’ll make an arrangement here,” Coker said.

Coker, who put the odds of a Japan event as “50/50,” also discussed states that could possibly hold the event if Japan falls through.

Fabricio WerdumNEW YORK — For some fans, it’s easy to look past Strikeforce. They don’t run as many events as the UFC, they don’t have a bombastic frontman, and they haven’t been around as long. But it was hard to ignore what they were doing on Tuesday afternoon, when eight burly men demanded and received the attention of a city that usually can’t be bothered.

The field of the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament came to town, with a free fan experience at Manhattan’s famed Roseland Ballroom that drew around 2,000 fans. The message was simple: With the brutal tournament format generating a battle of attrition, the promotion and its fighters believe that the man who emerges as the last man standing out of the original eight will be able to make the claim as the world’s best heavyweight.

While the championship is not in play, in some ways, the stakes are higher than any single piece of hardware.

“I love tournaments,” said Alistair Overeem, the man who holds the belt for now. “Tournaments decide who’s No. 1. This tournament will decide who the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA is, no doubt.”

Okay, we admit we were just grasping for some way to make this hilarious suburb-dwelling gangster scrap video seem somewhat MMA-related so we could rationalize posting it on the site. If you’re reading this Josh and Brett, we didn’t mean anything by it, we swear.

Anyway, it’s obvious that these two tough guys train UFC, although the ginger-haired kid seems to prefer PRIDE rules.

Nothing we can say can come close to the hilarity of the actual video, so we won’t bother, but we will leave you with some sage advice.

Let this be a warning to you that you should never steal your buddy’s bong and take pictures of it and post them on your Facebook page. In the mean streets of Burbank, that kind of bullshit will earn you a beatdown in front of your parent’s house while they’re at work, son.
