Brian Shaw is a retired US-born professional strongman and is considered one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. He won the World’s Strongest Man competition four times and became the first person to win both the World’s Strongest Man and Arnold Strongman Classic in the same year.

On the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson professional boxing match, he spoke in an interview with Overtflow, he explained:

“That’s an interesting one, man. I personally met and talked with Mike Tyson. The dude has a different switch and that’s the X-factor where could just see something switch in his brain. It’s another level. He’s a killer so if he brings that out, that’s a whole other level.  I’m also a Mike Tyson fan so I gotta lean that way.” [Ht Middleeasy]

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has recently gone on air clarifying his grappling session last year with four-time World Strongest Man Brian Shaw.

Dustin Poirier was invited to go onto Shaw’s podcast, in which he accepted, where he later that day grappled, and submitted the 400-plus pound strongman.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports recently interviewed Dustin Poirier regarding his upcoming fight with Michael Chandler, as well as his encounter with the former Worlds Strongest Man.

Poirier explained: “That’s not the full video. He taps me out later on by just putting his weight on top of me. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, but (he’s) a huge individual man, he’s a giant.

“It was fun, it was fun, ya know. He has no grappling experience, but just his strength and size; just to get my legs around him, to take his back to try to hang onto him, he’s just such a huge human being. It was fun, it was a good experience.

“Just getting my arms around his neck is neck is like trying to grab someone’s waist. That’s how big his neck is.

Iole then asked Poirier what the effect of significant physical strength has in a fight:

Poirier responded: “Strength is a big thing in fights that can (at times) make up for technique. If you’re trying to get up off the mat, or build back up on the fence and you’re technically doing it a little wrong but you have the strength and explosiveness, it kind of fills some of the gaps and makes guys be able to do more than their skillset would allowed them to do.”

Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier returns to the octagon next weekend, November 12, at UFC 281 opposing former multi-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler.

Dustin Poirier is known for his relentless attack on the feet in the UFC octagon, but he recently had the chance to show off his underrated ground game as well against one of the world’s biggest giants.

Poirier recently had the chance to get some grappling rounds in with World’s Strongest Man competitor Brian Shaw and did more than just hold his own.

In a video circulating on social media, Poirier appeared to get the upper hand against the 6’8”, 400-pound Shaw, even forcing him to tap to a rear-naked choke.

This isn’t the first time that fans have been left in awe of Poirier’s grappling prowess. At UFC 242, Poirier sunk in a guillotine choke that nearly forced former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to his first career loss in the Octagon.

In a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Poirier spoke about his grappling game.

“I submit people all the time; put people unconscious,” Poirier said. “Haven’t finished anybody in the UFC with it, but it’s coming.”

Poirier was also originally scheduled to face jiu-jitsu sensation Garry Tonon in a charity grappling matchup in February 2020 before Tonon pulled out after suffering a serious cut in training. It would be interesting to see how Poirier would fair in grappling events such as Submission Underground.

Shaw became the first man to win the Arnold Strongman Classic in 2011 and is well-known in strongman circles. Nicknamed ‘Gigantor’, he’s also a three-time World’s Strongest Man Champion, last earning the title in 2016.

Poirier is all set to compete in his trilogy fight with Conor McGregor this summer, while Shaw continues his preparation for the 2021 World’s Strongest Man competition. Poirier signed his half of the bout agreement for UFC 264 scheduled for July 10th on Friday, while McGregor announced the fight’s booking earlier this weekend.
