Aggression MMA LogoPress Release – January 17th, 2011 – Edmonton, Alberta, Aggression MMA has concluded with its arrangement to acquire, one of the premier MMA promotions in Western Canada, in The Fight Club (TFC). This agreement will merge TFC under the Aggression MMA umbrella and all future events will occur under the Aggression name.

“This is hands down the most exciting day for us at Aggression. We obviously have an abundance of respect for The Fight Club and the components for making that such a successful mixed martial arts organization over the years,” stated Harvey Panesar co-owner of Aggression MMA, “It just felt right to start solidifying the MMA landscape in Edmonton, to be able to provide the amazing fans of Edmonton an event bringing the best locals under one roof, without having to choose amongst the two organizations.”

“The Fight Club has successfully established its brand with the MMA community in Canada, putting on over 12 shows and some remarkable fight cards, however both organizations felt it was best to work together, rather than compete amongst each other, in the end, the fans win.”

Aggression MMA will be acquiring some of the contracts that are in place with the TFC and will bring on Mr. Mark Sinclair as the Director of Production and Pay Per View. “We are pleased that Mr. Sinclair is coming on board with us. The production aspect of TFC was incredible and we are looking to make future Aggression shows just as good, if not better on the production side,” continued Harvey Panesar.

Aggression is also pleased to announce that on Saturday, January 22, Kamikaze Punishment presents a 1-day UFC Fighter seminar, with a meet and greet featuring: Clay “The Carpenter” Guida, Mike “Quicksand” Pyle, and Jason “The athlete” Macdonald.

Nothing Personal In Fight Between Mark Hominick & George Roop

Mark HominickDespite having trained together many times over the past few years, featherweights Mark Hominick (19-8) and George Roop (11-6-1) will step into the octagon to do battle this coming Saturday as part of the UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event in Texas.

The importance of a win for Hominck is huge, as a victory for the Canadian could earn him a title shot against Jose Aldo as part of the UFC’s first Toronto event in April with UFC 129.

Hominick has won four straight, three in the WEC and one victory with the former Affliction mma promotion, and will appear in the octagon for the third time in his 27 fight career. He made his debut back in March of 2006 at UFC 58, losing by submission to Yves Edwards.

The Canadian spoke to Heavy.com recently about having trained with Roop in the past and how both men feel it’s “nothing personal” but Hominick plans on going home with the win.

“I’m fighting George Roop on January 22nd. Right now, I’m just looking at things like I’m a new UFC fighter, and [I need] to have a pretty good stamp on my fight to prove why I am [the #1 contender.]”

“There’s a big difference between a training partner and a close friend. It’s not that I don’t like George, but there is a big difference my relationship with guys like Sam Stout and Chris Horodecki and my relationship with George Roop. I’ve known him for the last four or five years, and business is business; we’re both coming off big wins, so let’s do it.

“We talked through email when the fight was announced and said nothing personal; let’s just get it done and move on afterward. We’re friends now and we’ll be friends after, but come January 22nd, I’m going to take him out.”

Tim Hague Looking For “Fight Of The Year” Against Matt Mitrione

Ufc_fight_for_the_troops_2_posterCanadian heavyweight Tim Hague (12-4) is set to make his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Jan. 22nd against Matt Mitrione.

Hague hasn’t seen the inside of the octagon since he lost a unanimous decision to Joey Beltran last May as part of UFC 113. He was released from the promotion soon afterwords and has fought his way back in by earning two knockout victories with a local promotion in Canada.

He’s expecting sparks to fly and is ready to give the fans, what he is hoping will be, a “Fight of the Year” candidate when he meets Mitrione in the co-headliner of UFC Fight for the Troops 2 later this month.

“I’m just happy to be back in the UFC,” he said. “I’m in proper shape now and I hope everyone gets to see that and gets to see a great fight on January 22nd.”

“I think he’s gonna be the toughest opponent I’ve faced athletically,” said Hague of his opponent. “He’s just a big strong guy, he moves well, has great cardio, and he seems to learn quick so he’s probably got a couple tricks up his sleeve for me, but I’ve got a couple as well for him, so it will be an interesting fight to watch. I feel confident that I can beat him in all areas. I can beat him by decision, I can beat him by knockout, preferably, or by submission. If it does go the distance, I think we’re gonna be a front runner for Fight of the Year.”

“I know I’ve got to perform and I’ve gotta do exceptionally well in this fight, but I don’t feel too much pressure really,” he said. “I’m a lot more calm now. Throughout my training camp and throughout the fight, I’m not too anxious about anything. I’ve had the experiences of the highs and the lows, so I’m ready for whatever comes.”

Roberts is 3-1 in his last four which is also his record with the UFC. He made his debut in March of 2010 suffering his first professional loss to John Howard at UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones. “Ninja” recovered from that loss to win three straight by defeating Forrest Petz at UFC 116 via split decision, Mike Guymon at UFC 121 by anaconda choke, and last weekend at UFC 125 by submitting Greg Soto with a kimura.

Patrick has won his last twelve fights including both of his UFC appearances. He stopped James Wilks via unanimous decision at UFC 120 in October and submitted Ricardo Funch at UFC 115 with a guillotine choke last June. The Canadian will get a chance to fight in front of his home town crowd when he steps into the octagon against Roberts at UFC 129.

UFC 129 will take place on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario and will mark the promotions first appearance in the Province. The event has quickly filled up and the card appears set, but unofficial and will coincide with a two-day UFC Fan Expo at the Direct Energy Centre.

Jason MacDonaldAnother bout looks to be on tap for the UFC’s first trip to Toronto as a welterweight bout between veterans Ryan Jensen (15-7) and Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald (24-14).

Sportsnet.ca broke the news Friday night indicating that both fighters had made verbal agreements but contracts were yet to be signed.

Jensen last appeared in October at UFC 121 losing to Court McGee by submission in the third. He’s 1-2 in his last three and sports a 2-5 record in two stints with the promotion. Previous to the McGee loss he earned a submission win over Jesse Forbes at UFC 114, earning the “Submission of the Night” bonus and lost to Mark Muñoz at UFC 108 in January of last year.

MacDonald is also in his second stint with the UFC. “The Athlete” returned to the promotion last May at UFC 113 against John Salter. In the first round Salter attempted a takedown which resulted in MacDonald breaking his leg ending the fight. MacDonald recovered from that injury and was set to meet Rafael Natal at UFC 124 last month but withdrew after suffering an injury during training. The Canadian is 3-1 in his last four bouts and is 5-6 overall with the UFC.

UFC 129 marks the first visit to Toronto for the organization and is set to take place on April 30 at the Rogers Centre and is headlined by a welterweight title bout featuring champion Georges St-Pierre versus challenger Jake Shields.
