“It looks like we’re going to try and do the Rogers Centre,” Fertitta said. “We looked at [the Air Canada Centre], too, but we want to break the record for attendance to MMA.
“We’ll try to get about 40,000 to 50,000 people there.”

Two of MFC’s best strikers set to explode at Bragging Rights
Two fighters with eyes on championship gold will clash in what promises to be an explosive light heavyweight matchup on the main card of the Maximum Fighting Championship’s MFC 27: Bragging Rights.
Riding an eight-fight winning streak into his MFC debut, Brazilian striker Glover Teixeira (10-2) will square-off against heavy-hitting American crowd-pleaser David Heath (16-6) on the HDNet Fights-televised lineup slated for Friday, November 12 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, just outside Edmonton, Alberta.
Heath, who has just signed a new and exclusive three-fight deal with the MFC, has become one of the organization’s most popular figures for his all-out aggressive style. He further endeared himself to the fans at MFC 26 when, in his first fight in the middleweight ranks, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product ferociously knocked out Solomon Hutcherson with a Superman punch early in the second round. That feat earned Heath the Knockout of the Night honor and solidified his position as one of the organization’s most action-oriented fighters. Heath had previously shared the MFC’s 2009 Fight of the Year with Mike Nickels.
The 34-year-old has earned two other wins under the MFC/Heat XC banners, including a first-round submission via guillotine choke over former light heavyweight champion Roger Hollett at MFC 20. Eight of Heath’s 16 career wins have come by way of knockout.
Teixeira, a former training partner of Chuck Liddell’s at The Pit under coach John Hackleman, is a proven knockout artist with eight of his 10 career wins coming by knockout, and all of those stoppages coming before the end of Round 2. Included in Teixeira’s list of impressive knockouts is a finish of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in only 1:41 and a destruction of Jorge Oliveira that lasted a mere five seconds. In his only victory that went the distance, the Sobralia, Brazil, native earned a unanimous decision over veteran Matt Horwich.
Though obviously a well-reputed striker, Teixeira has an accomplished pedigree in submission grappling as well. The 31-year-old is a former Brazilian ADCC trials winner and has competed under submission wrestling rules against the likes of Jeff Monson and Brandon Vera.
The Heath/Teixeira matchup further adds to an already stacked card for MFC 27: Bragging Rights which features a welterweight title fight between Douglas “The Phenom” Lima and Jesse Juarez. Other bouts scheduled for the televised main card of MFC 27 include:
Dwayne Lewis vs. Razak Al-Hassan, light heavyweight
Ryan Ford vs. Pete Spratt, welterweight
Kajan Johnson vs. Orestes Betran, lightweight
A final main-card bout and the undercard are expected to be announced shortly.
Tickets for MFC 27: Bragging Rights are going fast. Tickets are available by calling the MFC Ticket Hotline at (780) 504-2024 and through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca and charge-by-phone (780) 451-8000.

During Tuesday’s UFC press conference in Montreal, UFC Director of Canadian Operations, Tom Wright, announced that the promotion would look at holding an event in Toronto mid-2011. He also noted that the event would likely coincide with Canada’s first UFC Fan Expo.
Ontario recently sanctioned mixed martial arts in the province last August, after which the UFC announced it would look at holding it’s first Toronto event at the Rogers Centre, the home of the Toronto Blue Jays.
“I think if we bring a Fan Expo to Canada, most likely it would come to Ontario…We haven’t set a time line. On Aug. 14, the Ontario government sanctioned mixed martial arts in Ontario and the regulatory process has just started. We hope to have it completed by the end of the year, and we’ve already started to have discussions about a venue in Toronto. Most likely, we’re looking at the first UFC event in Toronto sometime midyear. The date hasn’t been selected yet because we haven’t completed the regulatory process. But it’s going to be a big event.”

Wreck MMA is proud to announce that we will be holding our fourth event this week and once again it will be for a good cause. This time around, the Wreck team has traveled to Kandahar, Afghanistan and will be promoting five fights for the Canadian Troops.
The team has traveled safely to Kandahar and final preparations are being made for this historic event as Wreck is the first MMA promotion to hold an event in Afghanistan. The event will involve Canadian fighters who will be traveling together and fighting in a once in a lifetime opportunity. After Wreck’s successful first event where Wreck raised money for ‘Soldier On’, the Canadian Forces have looked for an opportunity for Wreck to run an event for the troops and the time has finally come.
There are two teams of five fighters, one of which will be coached by Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts Head Instructor and Renzo Gracie Blackbelt Pat Cooligan and the other by FIT MMA Head Instructor Craig Brown. In the main event of the evening, Hamilton’s Rory McDonnel will be facing Jesse Gross of Adrenaline MMA in London. When asked to participate in the event, two of Canada’s most talented lightweights jumped at the opportunity to entertain the troops. Also on the card are Stephane Bernadel, Bojan Kladnjakovic, Alex Gasson, Stefan Kessler, Sami Mann, Paul Ebejer, Justin Taveirne and Christopher St-Jean. All fighters have donated their time to the Canadian Forces and are competing for the soldiers who fight for them everyday.
This historic event could not be possible without the hard work of Wreck President Nick Castiglia and Louise Desroches from the Canadian Forces. Wreck would also like to thank our sponsors Planet Ink Studios and Fitshop for making some generous donations that Wreck has brought to the troops in Kandahar.
