Jailton Almeida has spoken out in support of his teammate Carlos Felipe in the wake of the latter’s second USADA suspension.

The Brazilian submission artist spoke to reporters after his first-round rear-naked choke win against Parker Porter at UFC Vegas 55. Almeida had given a shout-out to Felipe immediately after his win, prompting the interviewer to ask about Filipe’s importance to Almeida as a friend and teammate.

“Carlos Felipe is like a brother to me,” Almeida said. “He was the person that extended his hand and showed me the dream that it is to fight in the UFC. If I was able to do what I did there with Porter, it’s because I had Carlos Felipe there working with me every day, you know?”

While the interviewer didn’t specifically ask about Felipe’s suspension, Almeida went on to acknowledge the topic anyway.

“We believe that he was unjustly caught in the doping test. We know that he didn’t do anything, but something popped in his test. He has done it before, and he openly talks about having used before when he was caught the first time. But you know, he’s not a dumb person. He knows what he has to do in order to stay clean and stay in the sport. So, I know that he didn’t do it and he’s gonna be back here very soon.”

Originally signed by the UFC in 2017, Felipe failed a USADA test in the lead-up to his promotional debut and accepted a two year suspension.

The Brazilian heavyweight finally entered the UFC with a majority decision loss to Sergey Spivak in 2020. “Boi” rebounded with three straight wins but lost to Andrei Arlovski in 2021 and ran afoul of USADA a second time. He is currently unable to compete until April 16, 2023.

Contender Series 2021 contract winner Jailton Almeida entered the UFC as a light heavyweight and is now 2-0 in the promotion following his win over Parker Porter at heavyweight. “Malhadinho” has finished both his UFC opponents in the first round and hasn’t lost an MMA bout since 2018.

What are your thoughts on Almeida claiming that Felipe was “unjustly caught” by USADA?

Tuivasa On Felipe: “How Did He Get Done For Steroids, He’s Fat As S**t”

UFC heavyweight contender Tai Tuivasa has given his thoughts on Carlos Felipe’s recent failed drug test and subsequent suspension.

Felipe has been competing in the UFC’s heaviest weight class since 2020. Although it’s worth noting the Brazilian was initially signed in 2017 but was suspended by USADA prior to his debut after testing positive for stanzolol metabolites.

After arriving as an undefeated prospect, eventually, the 27-year-old fell to a majority decision against Sergey Spivak on debut. But in his following three appearances, including a memorable scrap against Justin Tafa on Fight Island, the Brazilian got back on track with three consecutive triumphs on the judges’ scorecards.

It’s fair to say that run of success has come to a crashing halt.

After suffering his second defeat in the promotion against veteran Andrei Arlovski last October, Felipe has found himself locked to the sidelines and unable to rebound for at least the next 18 months, owing to a failed drug test.

“Boi” tested positive for the anabolic agent boldenone and its metabolites in relation to his co-main event clash with Arlovski at UFC Vegas 40. With that revelation, which Felipe’s team branded as a “huge surprise,” the Feira de Santana native will be unable to compete until April 16, 2023.

Tuivasa: Felipe Should Get A Refund

While most have expressed their disappointment and disdain at the failed drug test, Tuivasa sent Felipe a message during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour: get a refund.

When discussing Felipe’s case, “Bam Bam” questioned how Felipe could have tested positive for steroids given his size, although he said it in a less polite way…

“Yeah, f*ck that, how did he get done for steroids? He’s fat as sh*t. That’s like f*cking me getting done for steroids or some sh*t like that,” Tuivasa said. “How the hell did that happen?”

Comparing his own size with that of Felipe, Tuivasa claimed if he used performance-enhancing drugs and remained in the same shape, he’d be requesting his money back.

“F*ck, I’d be calling my dealer up and getting a refund or something [LAUGHS]. Imagine that, f*cking what.”

This isn’t the first time Tuivasa has commented on Felipe’s troubles. In an Instagram post uploaded a number of weeks ago, the #11-ranked heavyweight contender mocked “Boi,” pointing out that he lost to “an old man” in Arlovski while using PEDs.

While Felipe begins his long period away from the cage, Tuivasa will at least be providing the Brazilian with some entertaining action to enjoy from the comfort of his home this weekend. In the UFC 271 co-main event, the Australian will face fellow knockout artist Derrick Lewis.

Perhaps Felipe should follow Tuivasa’s example and swap the PEDs for the shoeys

Carlos Felipe Suspended For 18 Months Following ‘Shock’ Failed Drug Test

Carlos Felipe, the UFC heavyweight who recently took on Andrei Arlovski at UFC Vegas 40 last October, has been suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for returning a failed drug test following that fight.

The NSAC announced on Tuesday that Felipe tested positive for an anabolic steroid and its metabolites, Boldenone. The Brazilian and his team reached an agreement with the commission that included a fine of $4,200 (15% of his purse) and $489 in prosecution fees. He must also be subjected to pre-fight drug testing 30 days, 15 days, and 3 days ahead of his next appearance, should it happen to be in Nevada. However, because his suspension is retroactive to the date of the failed test, ‘Boi’ will be eligible to fight again on April 16th, 2023.

Felipe’s manager, Tiago Okamura, told Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting that his client agreed to the sanction despite him denying any wrongdoing. According to Okamura, the cost of defending against the charges would have reportedly been around $10,000, which was “not something realistic for Carlos.” Instead, the fighter and his team accepted a reduced fine and suspension.

This is the second time Felipe has been suspended for a failed drug test. Prior to his UFC debut in 2017, the 27-year-old was suspended for two years by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after testing positive for metabolites of another anabolic steroid; this time, stanozolol. He completed his suspension and debuted at UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2, where Felipe dropped a majority decision to Sergey Spivak.

Felipe subsequently rebounded with three wins over Yorgan de Castro, Jake Collier and Justin Tafa before losing a said match to Andrei Arlovski. USADA has not yet commented on Felipe’s suspension, but it’s possible that he could be facing as much as a 4-year sanction from the UFC’s drug testing partner as a result of this second incident. If Felipe is going to mount any kind of defense to maintain his innocence, that may be the more meaningful place to focus his finances.

Do you think Carlos Felipe should’ve faced a harsher penalty as a repeat offender?

Andrei Arlovski vs. Carlos Felipe was a slugfest.

The two fighters met in a bout on Saturday night (October 16, 2021) at the UFC Vegas 40 event from Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC Apex facility.

A slow first round, but it heated up with a minute to go with the UFC vet pushing forward and mixing in his kicks while Felipe did a good job of grouping his strikes together. Arlovski had double the amount of strikes thrown than his opponent in the first round. Felipe had range issues in the second round, but when he did get close, he landed. A lot of movement by Arlovski. Felipe hurt him twice in the third round up against the fence, but Arlovski somehow survived. The judges gave the win to Arlovski by decision.

Peep the highlights of the fight courtesy of the UFC’s official Twitter account:

Arlovski has been on a roller coaster ride as he was 3-2 heading into this fight. He got knocked out by Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 244 before beating Philipe Lins and Tanner Boser by decision. He lost to Tom Aspinall by submission before getting a decision win over Chase Sherman in April 2021.

Felipe was on an 8-fight winning streak before getting beat by Sergey Spivak via majority decision in July 2020. He followed up that loss by ripping off three straight wins with decision victories over Yorgan de Castro, Justin Tafa, and Jake Collier.

In the UFC Fight Island 4 co-main event we have an exciting heavyweight bout. Yorgan De Castro is looking to bounced back after suffering the first loss of his career last time out. Carlos Felipe is hoping to do the same after falling short in his UFC debut earlier this year.

Round 1: Carlos Felipe wings a big punch in but it misses wildly. Yorgan De Castro is pawing out with his hands and trying to hit low leg kicks. Felipe throws a big overhand right it makes a big thudding sound but De Castro managed to block it. De Castro steams forward to get his back off the cage. Felipe continues to press forward. De Castro is firing back to try to keep him off but nothing is really landing big right now. Felipe eats a big leg kick which clearly hurt. He fires back with a straight right but is unable to get out of the way of these low kicks. Felipe is starting to put his hands together at the end of round one. He’s clearly got fast hands and his power is starting to get a reaction from his opponent as round one comes to a close.

Round 2: Both men come out firing at the start of round two. De Castro is very visibly trying to take the initiative here but he eats a big shot coming in. Felipe goes to the body before heading back upstairs – he seems to have his opponent hurt for a moment. De Castro clinches up against the fence, threatens for the takedown before they break and get back to striking range. De Castro seems fine, better than fine actually he’s emerged from the latest flurry of strikes looking excellent. Felipe doesn’t let his opponent gain too much momentum and gets back to hitting the body impressively. They clinch against the cage again but the referee takes the position away from De Castro who ignored several warnings about grabbing the fence. Felipe continues to push forward with lots of volume. He punches his way in then clinches up against the fence. The referee again breaks the position due to another fence grab – this time from Felipe. Both men are swinging as the round ends – they stare each other down before heading back to their respective corners.

Round 3: Both men come out swinging once again. Felipe is landing lots of volume. De Castro is winding up for power. Felipe comes out of the flurry better. He is able to keep up his output and De Castro is just covering up really. Another clinch position is broken up by the ref. De Castro shoots for a takedown but is unable to get it, they clinch up again but are quickly broken up. Another clinch position. Not a lot of action. Another break from the referee – this fight is starting to get into a pattern. De Castro keeps going straight back in for the clinch. He’s tapping his opponent with short shots but the referee just keeps separating them. We head into the final minute. De Castro again bulldozes forward and looks to hold up against the fence. Ten seconds left they are again split and neither man is able to land anything significant before the end of the final round.
