Fernand Lopez

The ex-wife of famed MMA coach Fernand Lopez is speaking out after allegations of domestic violence were levied against both of them.

Known best for coaching some of the biggest names in mixed martial arts, including Ciryl Gane, Nassourdine Imavov, and previously, Francis Ngannou, Lopez came under fire after one of his former fighters, Cédric Doumbé, made accusations that he had overheard Lopez physically assaulting his ex-wife during a phone call.

The claim came during a post-fight interview shortly after Doumbé scored a vicious nine-second knockout against his countryman Jordan Zébo at PFL Paris.

Fernand Lopez has since responded to the allegation in a feature published by French news outlet Le Parisien. Lopez confirmed that he had been sentenced to four months in prison following a 2018 arrest for domestic violence. The MMA coach admitted to slapping his former partner but also alleged that she had become violent toward him, his daughter from a prior relationship, and his granddaughter at one point.

On Tuesday, Lopez’s ex-wife released a statement amid all the public attention that their story has received.

“All of this is a tsunami for me, I never wanted to talk about it or let anything from my private life show. However, despite remaining silent and calm for all these years, it’s clear that I’m still being smeared, and a new life is being invented for me. So yesterday, it was impossible not to react to so many lies in the article I read. It was this (rag?) article from Le Parisien that made me react. If he hadn’t opened his mouth, I had no reason to open mine, since until now, I had never done so despite the numerous public slanders I’ve been a victim of since 2022.

“So yes, yesterday I dared to say (even though in reality, I didn’t reveal anything) that yes, it’s all lies, victimization, turning the situation around, manipulating the masses, and using his media firepower that I never had and never will. And he knows it. And he plays with it. In short, everything I went through. but at the time it was in private, so I couldn’t have it documented. I thought I was crazy because my brain had been turned. And I’ve just HAD ENOUGH! These actions with impunity must stop” (h/t MMA News).

Fernand Lopez’s Ex-Wife Disputes His Claim That He Had Only Slapped Her

She goes on to dispute the claim that she was ever violent toward Lopez or his family members. She also added that the “slap” Lopez admitted to delivering was anything, but, suggesting that the blow was strong enough to knock her unconscious and that it had happened on at least two separate occasions.

“Let it be clear: I don’t want to air my private life in public. But the victim is me and my daughter, who witnessed everything. And I refuse to be portrayed as a violent woman and that the situation would have ‘escalated.’ That’s false. And for a newspaper like Le Parisien to relay this information without verifying it is a disgrace. To the point that it was this morning that the journalist asked me for the judgment, proof that they hadn’t checked anything before publishing their article.

“Furthermore, I am one of those people who ‘freeze’ in danger situations. I had zero reaction other than enduring the blows. We’re all fighters; you all know it’s the worst Neanderthal reflex. When I lose consciousness, and it happened twice, it’s my daughter’s crying that “wakes” me up. So no, it wasn’t a slap, and no, we were not a violent couple.

“I sincerely loved the father of my child like never before. More than I should have. Everyone who knew us was aware of it. I endured and tolerated everything. That’s why I’ve always protected him for years and never said anything. He knows it and abuses this dominant position over me, over the media, and over the entire MMA sphere, which is also my sphere. But at some point, I just can’t take these attacks and this nonsense anymore.”

This is far from the first time that Fernand Lopez has been cast in an unsavory light. He previously engaged in a nasty back-and-forth with former student Francis Ngannou and he was also embroiled in a contract dispute with fighter Slim Trabelsi.

Of course, neither of those are as serious as the allegations Lopez is now facing.

GLORY Kickboxing superstar Cedric Doumbe reveals PFL purses, notes shockingly low UFC contract offer

Cedric Doumbe

French kickboxing phenom Cedric Doumbe has signed with the Professional Fighters League after months of speculation that the two-time GLORY Kickboxing champion would end up with the UFC.

Making his combat sports debut in 2013, Doumbe amassed an impressive 75-7 record in the world of kickboxing. During that run, ‘Le Meilleur’ established himself as one of the best, capturing the WKA world championship in the 75kg division before becoming a two-time GLORY welterweight world champion.

In 2021, Cedric Doumbe traded in his 10oz gloves for 4oz ones, transitioning to mixed martial arts. Thus far, Doumbe has remained undefeated in MMA, scoring four-straight wins by way of knockout under the Superkombat and MMA Grand Prix banners. With the UFC seeing a potential second coming of former middleweight champion Alex Pereira, the company was expected to make a strong play for the Cameroonian. The promotion even had him booked for a debut at UFC Paris against Darian Weeks, but a unique rule by the French MMA Federation (FMMAF) squashed the bout.

In an interesting twist, Doumbe opted to sign with the PFL. The promotion announced his signing and expected debut date on Wednesday. Taking to YouTube, ‘Le Meilleur’ revealed that he will be making more than three times the amount that the UFC offered by signing with the PFL.

Cedric Doumbe Reveals Details of UFC Contract Offer

According to Cedric Doumbe, the UFC offered him $20,000 per fight to show with a $20,000 win bonus, maxing him out at $40,000 per fight. While much better than the promotion’s starter contracts that typically offer $12,000 to show and $12,000 to win, the PFL came correct with an offer of $140,000 per fight guaranteed. It was a no-brainer for Doumbe.

“Cedric Doumbe is one of the greatest athletes in the world and a tremendous addition to the Professional Fighters League global roster,” a statement from PFL president Ray Sefo said regarding the signing. “Cedric dominated the sport of kickboxing and is poised to do the same in MMA.

“He is one of the most talented fighters in the world and will make an immediate impact here in the PFL,” Sefo concluded.

Already a massive star in France with half a million followers on Instagram, Cedric Doumbe could bring a considerable amount of attention to the PFL, particularly as the promotion looks to establish its product in Europe. ‘Le Meilleur’ will make his PFL debut on June 23.

The PFL (Professional Fighters League) have confirmed the signing of former two-time GLORY Kickboxing welterweight champion, Cedric Doumbe to a multi-fight deal, following links to a move and debut with the UFC last year ahead of the promotion’s debut in France.

Doumbe, 30, a native of Cameroon, currently boasts an undefeated 4-0 professional mixed martial arts record, since transitioning from kickboxing back in 2021.

Last featuring professionally in Paris at an MMA Grand Prix: Paris billed event back in March of this year, Cedric Doumbe landed a second round TKO win over Pawel Kilmas in the French capital.

Teasing news of his impending move in recent weeks, Doumbe, a decorated striker issued a plea to viewers and fans on his official YouTube channel, urging them to vote on a poll to determine whether he should sign for the PFL, UFC, or Bellator MMA.

However, as per official confirmation from the PFL this Wednesday evening, the 83-7-1 kickboxing star, Doumbe has penned a multi-fight deal with the organization.

“-2x GLORY Kickboxing welterweight champion

“The Best” HAS ARRIVED,” PFL tweeted. “Welcome to the Professional Fighter’s League @CedricDoumbe.”

A heralded kickboxing talent, Doumbe, most recently featured at GLORY 77: Rotterdam abc in January 2021, securing a second round KO win over Murthel Groenhart.

Over the course of his decorated and gold-laden professional kickboxing tenure, Cedric Doumbe has landed victories over the likes of Brad Riddell, Nieky Holzkien, Yoann Kongolo, Yohan Lidon, Thonchai Sitsongpeenong Jimmy Vienot, Harut Grigorian, and Alim Baiev to name a few.

Following UFC 287 last month in Miami, Florida – Doumbe posted a cryptic tweet aimed at two-time undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya.

Ahead of UFC Fight Night Paris last September, Doumbe was linked with a move to the organization and a debut at the Accor Arena event, in a matchup against Darian Weeks, however, the French MMA Federation called a halt to the pairing, declaring that fighters competing with less than 10 professional fights should not compete against other competitors with a four-fight plus differential in experience.

Cedric Doumbe sends cryptic message to Israel Adesanya after UFC 287 win

The world was watching when Israel Adesanya defeated Alex Pereira at UFC 287, and so was Cedric Doumbe. The GLORY kickboxing phenom has been slated to make a run for the upper echelon of the MMA world, and it seems his eyes are locked on target to the elusive gold that is the UFC middleweight championship.

Adesanya and Pereira gave the fans a war at UFC 287. The two had battled three times previously, with ‘Poatan’ defeating ‘The Last Stylebender’ each time. At UFC 287, however, things would end quite differently.

With his back to the cage getting rocked by vicious hooks to the body and head, Adesanya would suddenly lash out with a series of right hands that would send Pereira’s consciousness to a different world.

It was a momentous occasion. Adesanya had finally defeated a seemingly unbeatable foe, and the crowd and fans across the world rejoiced. However, a GLORY kickboxing phenom was watching, and if the rumors are true: he’s coming for Adesanya’s throne…

Cedric Doumbe rumored to be targeting transition to MMA, sends intriguing message to Israel Adesanya after UFC 287 knockout

Holding a stunning 12-3 record in one of the world’s most prestigious kickboxing organizations, Cedric Doumbe isn’t a man to take lightly. Holding the GLORY kickboxing welterweight championship, he’s not only defended it but defended it a multitude of times.

The rumors that he’s looking to transition to MMA aren’t even really rumors, per se. In fact, Cedric Doumbe has already competed in MMA. Not only that, but he currently stands at 3-0 and already had the offer to fight for the UFC with a fight scheduled and everything. Now, the fight would end up being canceled, but the opportunity was there.

With the success of Alex Pereira, Israel Adesanya and the many that have come before them, one thing that has been established is that elite kickboxers do have a potential home in MMA. While grappling can take years, if not decades, to master: the art of defending a takedown is often aided by the tall and lanky build that most kickboxers tend to possess. Not only that, but their prowess on the feet often results in them leading the dance anyways. It’s known that wrestling is extremely hard to do when backing up, and with the forward pressure and confidence the elite kickboxers possess, they’re mostly not easy victims when it comes to the takedown.

This is all theoretical, of course, but if Cedric Doumbe were to join any division looking to attain a championship, then the middleweight division would be supremely ideal to try and tackle that goal.

As for the cryptic message he sent Adesanya, it was as simple as this:

Cedric Doumbe is watching, and if you’re in the know, you know what he’s insinuating with that simple emoticon. As for when and where Doumbe will make his long-awaited UFC appearance, this is yet to be disclosed. But rest easy, as it is likely to happen and may even take place this year.

Are you a fan of elite kickboxers making the move to MMA and the UFC?
