If you think there has not been enough drama in the UFC over the last month or so, Jon Jones is now pouring gasoline on that fire, with a series of now-deleted tweets bringing concern to the MMA community.

It started with a tweet in which Jones said he was at an airport in Las Vegas “getting half my finger cut off.”

Jones followed that up with more tweets, including one that simply says, “No,” one that tells an X/Twitter user to, |Stop before it starts,” and one that says, “Do not call me.”

The nature of these messages, combined with their quick deletion, has several in the MMA speculating what this could mean about Jones. Some have feared him being on another bender, while others are concerned this is a sign that Jones is yet again injured.

Some even wonder if Jones will ever compete in the UFC ever again. Others, meanwhile, compared the behavior of Jones here to his brother, Chandler Jones, a star NFL defenseman who had a dispute with the Las Vegas Raiders at the start of the 2023 season and was released by the team following a September 2023 arrest.

MMA Community Reacts To Concerning Series Of Deleted Tweets From UFC Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones

Some who view this as a sign Jones is hurt say, if that turns out to be true, “Bones” needs to be stripped of the UFC heavyweight championship quickly.

In spite of some fan outcry, the UFC has been insistent on booking Jones vs. Stipe Miocic at New York’s Madison Square Garden after a plan for them to headline UFC 295 fell through due to Jones suffering a torn pec.

Tom Aspinall won the interim heavyweight championship on that card, and he will defend that interim title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 on July 27.

Jon Jones is the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion and is highly regarded as one of the world’s top three pound-for-pound MMA fighters. His younger brother, Chandler Jones, was recently picked at No. 21 in the 2012 National Football League draft in the first round.

The champion of the world’s premier MMA organization so far has reportedly made $400,000 for 2012. The 21st draft pick of the NFL has signed a signing bonus worth $4.384 million—with more millions guaranteed (click “view contract details” here)—as incoming rookie for the New England Patriots.

Not promoting sibling rivalry here, just happy that exceptionally athletic blood brothers are set off for a very bright and prosperous future for their family and respective families. And yes, that includes their eldest brother Arthur who has been playing as defensive end for the Baltimore Ravens since 2010.

It is also worth noting that the three big bros are earning way-above-average incomes through sports, both of the bruising and grinding kind. (By the way, is “way-above-average incomes” still an understatement?)

The rest of us are either content with middling salaries or looking for employment.

Most of us will bump into a street pole with no car, much less a Bentley, in between.

At least we can afford to be dead drunk, as long as it’s not on a regular basis so we can still lead productive lives for ourselves and our families.

And we try to be good role models, especially the parents among us, for our children and respective immediate communities. Though, we also fail in this respect every now and then. (Admit it! My friend, who was recently awarded as “Father of the Year,” was arrested last night for JWI. He was jaywalking while intoxicated, and bumped into the policeman across the street.*)

In ending, does my article fail to mention other issues and implications regarding the staggering difference between the Jones brothers’ professional earnings? Like that our Jon Jones could be the “poorest” of the three?

*Just kidding about the whole thing, I’m just implying something here.
