Eddie Alvarez isn’t wasting any time getting back into competition after his disqualification loss to Iuri Lapicus at ONE on TNT 1 just weeks ago.
Alvarez will reportedly make a quick turnaround at ONE on TNT 4 later this month, after suffering little damage in his fight against Lapicus. Alvarez was disqualified from his bout at ONE on TNT 1 for throwing heavy shots to the back of Lapicus’ head, which is currently under review by ONE Championship.
ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong confirmed earlier today that Alvarez will make a quick turnaround after the controversial loss in his last fight.
Sityodtong also said that Alvarez has a shot of breaking into the top five of the ONE Championship lightweight rankings with a win. Alvarez will fight the winner of Marat Gafurov and Ok Rae-Yoon, who square off at ONE on TNT 3 on April 21.
The former UFC lightweight champion is looking to make a statement in ONE Championship after losing two of his last three fights. Alvarez lost to Timofey Nastyukhin in his ONE debut by TKO and defeated Edward Folayang by submission before the disqualification against Lapicus.
“Factually there were illegal blows, factually the referee did give two warnings. But factually I can also say the DQ is under review,” Sityodtong said. “Eddie and his team asked for a review and hopefully we’ll have the results over the next several days.”
While the quick turnaround for the 37-year-old Alvarez may be surprising to some, it’s clear he wants to exact revenge after his controversial finish against Lapicus.
What do you think about Eddie Alvarez’s quick return to ONE Championship? What are your thoughts on his recent controversial fight against Iuri Lapicus?

Add ONE Championship to the list of promotions who will not be getting into the Anderson Silva business.
Silva recently competed for the last time in the UFC following a fourth-round TKO defeat to Uriah Hall last month. Despite a promising start, Silva was dropped twice en route to getting finished for the second fight in a row.
It was later reported that he was released by the promotion despite having one more fight on his deal — something that was welcome news for “The Spider” who was happy to be free and no longer forced into retirement.
The question now is where he will go and compete next.
Bellator MMA and the PFL have already stated that an offer for the former UFC middleweight champion is unlikely and the same goes for ONE Championship according to CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
“I am a huge Anderson Silva fan. Without a doubt, he is one of the best ever to do it,” Sityodtong said in a statement to Fightful. “That being said, athlete safety is our number one priority at ONE Championship. As such, we will not be bidding for his services.
“I wish Anderson much happiness and success in whatever he chooses to do next.”
There are still options out there for the 45-year-old such as Tauro MMA and RIZIN.
However, given the overall lack of interest from other major organizations, maybe Silva should take the hint?

ONE Championship has been forced to postpone two shows scheduled for April due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Asian based promotion had previously planned to press ahead with their events until June behind closed doors. Speaking exclusively to LowKickMMA last week, ONE Vice-President Miesha Tate confirmed this was still the intention but stressed safety was paramount, she said.
“Right now the game plan is changing every day as is the spread of COVID-19. I can assure you ONE Championship is taking this matter very seriously, we are executing extreme safety precautions for all our staff and fans as safety is a top priority! But the show must go on! We have a will and we will find a way!”
“BREAKING NEWS: Unfortunately, ONE Championship will have to postpone its closed-door, audience-free events for April due to new COVID-19 restrictions. To extinguish the recent growth of the coronavirus, the Singapore Government has just wisely ordered a partial lockdown of the country, whereby effective tomorrow (April 7th) onwards, only essential services (such as food, healthcare, and transportation) are allowed to operate. Additionally, major countries (China, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Russia, India, Vietnam, Japan, etc) have temporarily closed their borders.
“We are living through the most extraordinary of times. The good news is that these short-term restrictions will undoubtedly slow down the coronavirus, and flatten the curve. To be clear though, it needs all of us to work together with vigilance. The most important thing that we can do as individuals is to follow the strict orders of our respective governments and to practice social distancing, good hygiene, and telecommuting. The virus cannot spread if we all stay at home. It really is as simple as that. Let us join hands in this fight and stand united as ONE. #WeAreONE“

Asian MMA promotion ONE Championship have announced they will hold all event behind closed door until June due to the onogoing Corana Virus pandemic.
In a statement on his social media channels ONE CEO Chatri Sityodong announced his organisation will be making bold moves to stop the spread of the infectious disease, he said.
“My team and I have decided to turn
all events for ONE Championship into closed-door,
audience-free events effective immediately. Bar none, the safety of our fans,
athletes, staff, partners, and the public is the highest priority for ONE
Championship. All scheduled ONE events with live audiences will now be
suspended until at least May 29, 2020 due to the extraordinary COVID-19 global
situation.
“For the millions of fans at home around the world, the show will go on from the comfort and safety of your living room. Our global broadcast shows behind closed doors will commence in Singapore with an initial schedule of April 17, April 24, May 1, and May 8 respectively. Bout cards will be announced shortly for these broadcast-only shows, and additional dates will be added in the near future. Also, ONE Infinity Series, the world apex of martial arts events, is now slated to kick off on May 29, 2020 in Manila, Philippines with ONE Infinity 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“We are operating in truly extraordinary times, but my team and I remain committed to providing you the best sports and entertainment action available anywhere on global broadcast today. ONE Championship will continue to thrill you with the greatest martial artists on the planet and inspire you with their incredible stories. This virus might be on the attack right now, but I believe in the power of the human spirit. LET’S GOOOOO!!! #WeAreONE”
Should other organisations follow the lead of ONE Championship and hold all events behind closed doors?
