Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman took on surging contender Gegard Mousasi this past weekend (April 8, 2017) at UFC 210 and the bout ended with quite a bit of controversy.

In the second round, Mousasi landed a knee that referee Dan Miragliotta deemed illegal, giving Weidman five minutes to recover. However, Miragliotta then changed his tune, saying the knee was indeed legal and ending the fight with Mousasi being named the victor.

Weidman’s longtime head coach Ray Longo obviously isn’t happy with how the fight played out and he recently gave his thoughts on the debacle:

“Stick to your f*cking decision,” Longo said Monday on the Anik Florian Podcast. “I want to know who the hell convinced him (Miragliotta) to change his mind.”

“Take it step by step,” Longo said. “Stick to your call and that’s it. Whether the knee was legal or illegal is really irrelevant. Because the other thing that I think people are missing is he didn’t go down when he got kneed. He would have kept fighting.”

While Weidman likely felt the affects of the knees, Longo claims that his fighter was completely capable of continuing, but the doctors disagreed. Longo, however, said that the whole situation altered Weidman’s mindset:

“This is what nobody gets,” Longo said. “He’s already in a different mindset now. You’re f*cking with a guy in the middle of the fight.

“Now you tell a guy there’s an illegal knee, you encourage a guy to take a break, you’re changing the guy’s mindset.”

Weidman is expected to appeal the decision.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was in desperate need of a win at this past weekend’s (April 8, 2017) UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York. After suffering back-to-back stoppage losses, Weidman had yet another tough test in front of him in the form of surging contender Gegard Mousasi.

Despite winning the first round, Weidman came up short in the fight, as the bout was called off in the second frame. Mousasi landed a knee, which referee Dan Mirigliotta deemed illegal, but the New York State Athletic Commission deemed legal. Because of this, “The Dreamcatcher” was awarded the victory.

Check out how Chris Weidman’s corner, which consists of Ray Longo and Matt Serra, exploded after the decision below (courtesy of MMAMania.com):

Serra: If you’re okay, you’ve got to let them know! He never knows what day it is, though!

Longo: F**king bulls**t. Bull f**king s**t! No, no, no!

Serra: Because he didn’t know what day it is? He might not know what day it is! Give me his s**t. Where’s his shirt?

Longo: Goddamn it! He was winning that fight, too.

Serra: He told them it was February and he didn’t know what the date was. I told you that motherf**ker’s a dirty cocks**ker!

Referee Dan Miragliotta: (to Weidman’s corner) They watched the replay, it was legal.

Serra: Was it legal?

Weidman: There’s no way that was legal!

Serra: Come on Dan, are you kidding Dan? How is that legal?

Longo: Motherf**ker!

What do you make of the situation?

Gegard Mousasi Says Michael Bisping Is ‘Weakest’ Of Top Middleweights

No. 5-ranked UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi will look to extend his winning streak to five straight when he meets former 185-pound champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of this weekend’s (April 8, 2016) UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York.

The fight with Weidman will represent a tough test for the surging “Dreamcatcher”, but it was a fight he asked for:

“Let’s be honest, he’s got two losses [in a row] so if it was me, I would have chosen an easier fight also,” Mousasi told the Fight Society podcast (Via FOX Sports) when speaking about Weidman. “Eventually, he took the fight. Kudos to him.

“I was just looking for a fight and a lot of fighters weren’t available so the UFC were pushing for the Chris Weidman fight.”

A win would do wonders for Mousasi, a former DREAM and Strikeforce champion, but it likely wouldn’t warrant him a title shot given the cloudy and stacked nature of the middleweight division. Mousasi actually touched on the division’s top contenders as well, labeling champion Michael Bisping as the ‘weakest’:

“On any given day, the top five guys can beat each other,” Mousasi explained. “It’s very evenly matched. Yoel Romero, his fight with “Jacare” [Souza], Luke Rockhold, they’re all evenly matched and can beat each other. Michael Bisping is the weakest and he’s the champion, but he will be done soon. That’s one thing for sure.

“One of those top five guys is a tough opponent to face. We’ll see how it goes.”

Who would you like to see Mousasi face next if he gets by Weidman on Saturday?

Chris Weidman Explains Why UFC 210 Bout Is ‘Everything’ To Him

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will return to action in the co-main event of this weekend’s (April 8, 2017) UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York when he meets No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi.

After suffering back-to-back stoppage losses to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero, Weidman knows many are doubting him, but that only seems to motivate him:

“As much as you don’t want to pay attention you know what people are thinking,” Weidman told Damon Martin of FOX Sports in a recent interview. “I love being motivated by doubters. There’s definitely a lot of doubters right now who think I’m done and I’m far from done. It excites me and helps me push during every one of those workouts. Not only to become the best I can be everybody but on top to prove some people wrong, it’s an awesome spot to be in. It’s a great time.”

Given that Weidman is riding the longest and only losing streak of his professional career, he knows this bout could be do-or-die for him. In fact, he said that this fight with Mousasi is ‘everything’ to him:

“This is everything. This is everything for me,” Weidman said. “This is my path back to the top or it isn’t. I need to do everything I can possible in training camp. No box is unchecked. Just do everything I possibly can. When I do that, there’s nobody who can beat me.

“I feel so good in this camp. I haven’t felt this good in a while and I’m just hoping that translates to a dominant win. I know it will. He’s a dangerous guy, he’s experienced but I don’t think he has anything for me. I think I’m going to be too much for him.”

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has went through quite a rough patch over the last year-and-a-half.

After losing his UFC middleweight title to Luke Rockhold at Dec. 2015’s UFC 194, Weidman was forced to pull out of their scheduled rematch at June 2016’s UFC 199 to undergo neck surgery. The Long Island native then returned at this past November’s UFC 205 from New York City, but he was on the wrong end of a brutal flying knee from No. 1-ranked Yoel Romero.

Now riding a two fight losing streak, Weidman appears to be focused on bouncing back and he will get the chance to do just that this Saturday night when he takes on No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event of UFC 210.

Weidman’s longtime head coach Ray Longo recently admitted that it’s time to ‘move forward’:

“If you think about it, there was only one way to go,” Longo said on Monday, during an appearance on The MMA Hour. “You can’t keep going up and up and up. So we plateaued a little bit before. I think that’s going to be the mantra. That’s behind us, and we really had to go back to what got us there and really just move forward.”

As far as Longo is concerned, this fight camp has been one of the better ones for Weidman, as he said that the former champion went ‘beyond’ and concentrated on his training:

“I mean, life throws a lot of things at you,” he said. “You have family, you’ve got kids, you’ve got all this stuff happening outside and you know, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So you want guys to entertain things that they could be successful in maybe after their career is over. But again, the mantra for this was really just exclude — just focus on what you have to do.

“That’s what I loved about this camp. Chris really wanted to go to Brazil with his friend [Gian] Villante, but he didn’t. He wanted to be in Wonderboy’s corner in Vegas, he didn’t. He really, this was a time to get selfish, and just concentrate on your training. And I think the kid went beyond where we’ve been in a while, and I think it shows. If you talk to him I think you’ll see a different guy talking, and obviously if you look at him, the hard work just pays off. To the point that people are accusing him of being on PEDs, which I’m proud to say he’s clean as hell.”

At the end of the day, Longo admits that he didn’t expect to be in this position with Weidman, although he also said that Team Weidman is ready to write a ‘comeback story’:

“No, I would have never have thought we’d be in this position, but we are and we’re ready to tackle it and really write his comeback story, man.”

Chris Weidman Says Gegard Mousasi Called Out The Wrong Guy

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has lost two straight bouts, but he’ll get the chance to bounce back when he meets No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event of April 8’s UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York.

Weidman appears to be content with the bout, but he wasn’t pleased with the way it came to fruition, as he claims that Mousasi called him out while he was injured:

“I go on vacation and then I get a call saying they’re throwing Mousasi at me, they want me to fight Mousasi and I’m like all right whatever. But again I still don’t know when I’m ready to fight. I want to heal this up,” Weidman explained when speaking to FOX Sports.

“The next thing I know Mousasi’s on Twitter saying I’m ducking him and that’s just the balls on him. I understand he’s trying to do what he can do to get a big fight and he wants to start talking and get his name out there but I just lost recently. I’ve got an injury I’m dealing with and now this guy’s calling me out as if I’m turning down a fight with him.”

That call out has only seemed to add fuel to the fire for Weidman, as the ex-champion said that Mousasi called out the ‘wrong guy’:

“First of all, who the hell does he think he is that I’d be scared to fight him looking at everybody I fought in my career,” Weidman said. “Secondly, I’m dealing with an injury. Fighter to fighter, you don’t just start calling somebody out right after a loss like that. So I took it a little personal and I’m using it as a little bit of motivation to make him pay for that.”

“It’s definitely going to be a little extra motivation to show he called out the wrong guy.”

Do you expect Weidman to get back to his winning ways?
