No. 4-ranked former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is gearing up to take on No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event of April 8’s UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York, but he recently discussed the potential boxing super fight between UFC lightweight king Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

Weidman, like many, thought of the fight as a ‘joke’ at first, but he now feels certain that the fight will take place:

“So Mayweather and McGregor is going to happen. 100 percent. That’s a fact,” said Weidman during a recent interview on MMA Report with Mike ‘Gunz’ Gunzelman. “I was just like everybody else. I thought it was a joke of a fight. Obviously McGregor has no chance in that fight. But everyone’s still going to pay to watch it because it’s Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is going to talk. He’s going to say things to Floyd Mayweather that no one has ever said to him before. He’s going to have Floyd Mayweather’s head spinning. It’s going to be insane. It’s going to be an amazing event.”

If the two men do indeed meet in the squared circle, many seem to be giving the advantage to Mayweather and for good reason, as McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match.

Weidman, however, was sure to note the size advantage that the Irishman would have over “Money”:

“Mayweather is going to be such a small man next to Conor,” explained Weidman. “This guy is a giant. You have to realize that Conor McGregor was the biggest 145-pound fighter the UFC has ever had. He cut so much weight to make 145 pounds. He’s going to be so big and so heavy. He’s going to be so much longer and taller than Floyd Mayweather. His head is going to be so much bigger. It’s just two completely different animals.”

What do you make of Weidman’s comments?

Chris Weidman Needs To ‘Dominate’ Gegard Mousasi On Way Back To Title

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is well aware how important his upcoming fight with No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi at April 8’s UFC 210 is.

Weidman has lost two straight bouts, including a stoppage loss to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 where he surrendered his title and a stoppage loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 205 last November. Despite the set backs, the New York native remains fixed on recapturing his title:

“My goal is to get that championship belt around my waist again – that’s what I want more than anything,” Weidman said on the extended preview show for UFC 210. “You can’t get there without taking it one fight at a time. If I didn’t think I could beat everybody in this division, I wouldn’t be fighting. I just would be done. I feel like I’m the best fighter in the world, and I’ve got a good guy in front of me to be able to prove it.”

While losing is certainly not something Weidman wants to become too familiar with, the former 185-pound king admits that it’s simply ‘part of life’:

“Losing is part of life,” Weidman said. “It’s something that you always have to be able to handle. I’ve just got to get back on the horse and keep on working.”

It’s clear that Weidman is in desperate need of a victory, but it won’t come easy, as “The Dreamcatcher” has won four straight, with three of those victories coming by way of T/KO. “The All-American” knows he needs to ‘dominate’ Mousasi in order to keep his title hopes alive:

“Once we decided I was fighting Mousasi, we were very excited,” Weidman said. “It’s a great matchup for me. He’s a tough guy, very experienced. He’s on a nice win streak, so I think this fight is the better fight for me to push myself right back in title contention.”

“I go out there and dominate Mousasi, and they can’t deny it,” Weidman said. “I’ll be fighting for the belt again.”

Following two straight devastating stoppage losses in fights he was arguably winning, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman badly needs a win over Gegard Mousasi when the two meet in the co-main of April 8’s UFC 210 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

And apparently, the “All-American” contender knows that, as he posted a photo to Instagram today that pictured him in a shape we haven’t seen him in since he shocked the entire MMA universe by knocking out dominant former middleweight champion Anderson Silva four years ago, if ever.

The decorated wrestler from Hofstra has his hands full with former Strikeforce champ Mousasi, who’s reeled off four straight wins of his own, albeit over a bit lower of competition, and it would also appear he has a substantial weight cut upcoming as well. Have a look at his current form here:

Surging No. 5-ranked middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi is gearing up for a pivotal fight, as he’s set to take on No. 4-ranked former champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of April 8’s UFC 210 from Buffalo, New York.

Mousasi has looked better than ever, as he’s won four straight, while Weidman has dropped two consecutive bouts. “The Dreamcatcher” appears to be more confident than ever as well, as he recently promised to ‘light up’ Weidman:

“He’s a solid fighter. He is good everywhere, but he’s not great. He’s not that explosive, he’s not that fast and I am going to light him up, I promise,” said Gegard during a recent interview with MMA H.E.A.T.

“I know he’s a confident guy, cocky sometimes, but I think he underestimates me. And I am going to show him, I’m not kidding. I am in great shape, no one is taking me down and in standup, I’m just very confident and happy I got this fight,” he added.

While he clearly expects to get the better of the ex-champion, Mousasi was also sure to say that he has nothing but ‘respect’ for Weidman:

“I got nothing against respect the guy, he’s a nice guy. At the end of the day it’s the fight and afterward, we’re the same.”

Who do you expect to come out on top when these two middleweight titans meet next month?

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has hit some rough times as of late, losing his last two bouts to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero, with both coming via T/KO. Despite the recent stretch, the No. 4-ranked Weidman will return to meet No. 5-ranked Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210 in Buffalo, and his confidence is still riding high:

“I want to get that belt back, and fighting the toughest guys in the division is the way to do that,” said Weidman on a recent edition of “The MMA Hour.” “I don’t take that last loss and think, ‘I need to beat some guy who is not on my level to get my confidence back.’ I know exactly what I did wrong in that last fight and what I have to do differently, so I don’t have to fight any of those guys to get my confidence level up. I’m just as confident as I was. I feel like Mousasi is a great fight for me to get back on my winning ways and get closer to fighting for the title again.”

Mousasi is currently riding a four fight win streak with three of those victories coming by way of stoppage, but Weidman feels as if he has faced tougher competition:

“They’re definitely some good guys, but look at my record,” said Weidman, who has competed against the best the division has to offer during his UFC run. “This guy says I am scared of him, look at my record, look at the guys I have fought.”

Either way, this fight could be a tough one for the ex-champion, as Mousasi has arguably never looked better. With that said, however, Weidman is planning to make “The Dreamcatcher” ‘panic’ when the cage door closes:

“What he brings to the table is that he is an experienced guy and he fights like he is experienced,” concluded Weidman. “He stays calm in all situations, but I am going to make him panic when he fights me. I really feel like it’s a great fight. I give him respect, I think he’s a tough guy and I expect a tough fight, but I just think it’s a great fight for me.”
