Back in 2013, Chris Weidman shocked the mixed martial arts (MMA) world by dethroning Anderson Silva from the middleweight title.

Weidman knocked out Silva in the second round of their UFC 162 pay-per-view (PPV) main event meeting. It marked the beginning of a lengthy stint as champ for “The All American” that eventually came to an end in late 2015. Recently, Weidman reflected on this during a conversation with Robert Whittaker on his podcast, “Grange TV.”

During their conversation, Weidman revealed that UFC president Dana White actually requested he talk more trash to Silva ahead of the fight. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“[Dana said] ‘You’re not promoting the f*cking fight. Ticket sales aren’t looking good, pay-per-view numbers aren’t looking good already.’ … So I hear this and I was in my house and I was like a ghost,” Weidman said.

“I felt super white and anxious because I’m about to be someone I’m not used to being at all. I have to talk trash now. I’m like f*ck. I hated this feeling. ‘Why can’t I go out there and fight and win. That’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to beat this guy. Isn’t that enough?’ It wasn’t. I came up with a tweet.

“I don’t remember exactly what it was. Basically, a little bit of talking shit, how I’m going to beat Anderson Silva. I copy and paste it, I text Dana. I’m like ‘hey, just so you know, I put this out. Hopefully, that makes you happy. There’s more to come.’”

Weidman is going through a rough run inside the Octagon at the moment, however, he has shown no signs of hanging up his gloves just yet.

What do you think about Weidman being asked to talk trash to Silva by White?

Johnny Walker is targeting former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman for his next fight.

Walker is coming off his first-ever loss in the promotion following a shock first-round TKO defeat to Corey Anderson at UFC 244 earlier this month.

Weidman, meanwhile, is also coming off a loss following an unsuccessful light heavyweight debut against Dominick Reyes last month.

“The All American” later stated he wasn’t sure if he would continue at light heavyweight or return back to his old division. However, he was certain about one thing — he has no plans on retiring anytime soon.

Walker is looking to take advantage of that as he called out Weidman on Wednesday:

“Hey @chrisweidman , that’s funny, I also want to fight in February or March! What a coincidence! What date do you prefer? Let’s dance! ?” Walker tweeted.

Weidman would respond soon after, though he remained unsure of whether he would keep fighting at 205.

“Hey ! Thanks for the call out! I will let you know when I decide what I wanna do next,” he replied.

It wasn’t the response Walker wanted but he thanked Weidman for the quick response in what ended a very respectful back-and-forth between the two fighters:

“Thank you for the quick answer champ! I’ll be waiting and ready for any date! See you soon ? #Godblessyou” Walker responded.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has no plans on retiring just yet.

Weidman is coming off an unsuccessful light heavyweight debut following his TKO defeat to Dominick Reyes in the UFC Boston headliner last month. It puts him at five losses in his last six outings, with all of those setbacks coming by way of knockout.

Many called for “The All American” to retire following his loss to Reyes but Weidman still has big plans, even though he acknowledges he doesn’t have long left in the sport.

“I just feel like I’m still capable of big things,” Weidman said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday. “For all you haters out there, you might not see it now but I plan on proving that. I don’t know how much longer I have. Not that much longer. … But not yet.”

Despite the setback, Weidman felt good at 205 and believed he was the stronger fighter when matched up against Reyes. However, he isn’t sure if he will continue at light heavyweight.

“We plan on probably talking this week and figuring it out,” Weidman added of which weight class he’ll fight in next. “Just looking at the divisions, see possibilities. I can make 185 again. 205 was fun, less stressful and I feel like I can beat anybody up there.

“We’re just kind of looking at the divisions to figure it out. So I’m not sure if I’m going to go back down to 185 or stay at 205. It’s a tough situation, I don’t know. I’m kind of like in no man’s land right now.”

Which division should Weidman compete in next?
