Former UFC title challenger, Derrick Lewis drops three places in the newest UFC heavyweight rankings update.
Last Saturday saw Lewis drop his third straight loss, making it 1-4 in his last five fights, all of which have come by stoppage. Serghei Spivak took Lewis down six times, eventually sinking in an arm triangle just after three minutes in the first round – Lewis landed zero punches.
In the newest UFC rankings update, Lewis dropped three places in the ranking, 7 to ten and the loss marks Lewis’ worst run in the promotion. His previous three losses came to Sergei Pavlovich, Tai Tuivasa, and Ciryl Gane, and while there is no shame in any of those losses, Lewis’ performance have left much to be desired.
Spivak however finds himself up four spots and is now ranked No.8 and positions himself for another big fight.
Lewis is now 38 and has now suffered seven career knockout losses and has certainly hit a low point in his career. However, UFC President Dana White confirmed at the post-fight press conference that Lewis was going nowhere, even after his recent skid.
Not with me, I love the guy, I love him so he’s not going anywhere.” said White

Former duel-weight UFC champion, Daniel Cormier has backed arch-rival and two-time opponent, Jon Jones in his return fight against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March, claiming that while his style may be matched by the Frenchman, Jones’ preparation for the matchup will be undoubtedly stellar.
Cormier, a former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, twice shared the Octagon with fellow former 205lbs best, Jones between 2015 and 2017, first dropping a decision loss, before fighting to an eventual official ‘No Contest’ in the pair’s rematch.
For Jones, the former two-time light heavyweight champion is slated to make his first Octagon walk in over three years when he draws former interim titleholder, Gane on March 4. – having remained sidelined since a February 2020 win over Dominick Reyes.
Daniel Cormier shares his thoughts on Jon Jones’ comeback at UFC 285
Sharing his thoughts on the anticipated matchup of Jones and Gane, Cormier claimed that while Jones missed out on a fight with former champion and recently turned free agent, Francis Ngannou, he will face a fierce stylistic fight against Gane in March.
“I thought Jon (Jones) vs. Francis (Ngannou) was the biggest and my most anticipated fight because of the dangers that Francis Ngannou presents to Jon Jones with the power and everything,” Daniel Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “But let’s not go crazy and act as if Jon Jones hasn’t seen power before. He’s seen power. Nothing like the power of Ngannou, but I believe that what he has now may be a more difficult style matchup in Ciryl Gane.”
“Jones still has some advantages, though,” Cormier explained. “I think his fight I.Q. is unmatched. I think his preparation is going to be really, really high level, especially seeing that he’s working with Henry Cejudo… Whatever you may think of Cejudo, he’s a brilliant fight mind. He’s a brilliant competitive mind. There aren’t many people like Henry Cejudo in the history of sports, so Jones going there is a very smart decision.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)
Rebounding from his unanimous decision title unification loss to Ngannou back in January of last year, MMA Factory staple, Gane defeated knockout artist, Tai Tuivasa last July in the main event of UFC Fight Night Paris.

After three years of waiting, Jon Jones will return to the Octagon for a UFC heavyweight title fight.
UFC president Dana White revealed that Jon Jones will make his long-awaited heavyweight debut at UFC 285 on March 4. Meeting him will be No. 1 ranked contender, Ciryl Gane. The pair will meet for the now vacant heavyweight title after the promotion failed to come to terms with reigning champion Francis Ngannou.
“We offered Francis a deal that would have made him the highest-paid heavyweight in the history of the company,” White said. “More than [Brock] Lesnar, more than anybody, and he turned the deal down. We get to this point where I’ve told you guys before, if you don’t want to be here, you don’t have to be here.
“We’re going to release him from his contract, we’re going to give up our right to match, and he can go wherever he wants and do whatever he wants. That’s where we’re at.”
As a result, Francis Ngannou will be released from his contract and stripped of the title. Jones and Gane will compete to crown a new heavyweight king.
Stipe Miocic Calls For a Fight With Winner of Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane
The blockbuster announcement got the attention of the MMA community, including former heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic. Taking to Twitter, Miocic approved of the title fight announcement and expressed interest in facing the winner this summer.
“March 4th – I like it,” Miocic tweeted. “I got winner in July.”
Considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, Stipe Miocic has been absent from the Octagon since dropping the title to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 nearly two years ago. Miocic had been heavily rumored to compete against Jon Jones in December, but the fight never materialized despite the UFC reportedly making an offer to the two-time UFC champion.
Miocic currently holds the record for most UFC heavyweight title defenses in promotional history.
