Claressa Shields, Jake Paul

Claressa Shields is willing to take the fight to Jake Paul beyond the boxing gym and into the court of law.

This Saturday, Jake Paul returns to pay-per-view when he meets Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August clash. However, the YouTuber may have another fight on his hands if he and his representatives are not mindful.

Last week, Jake Paul’s management team BAVAFA Sports made a shocking claim. They stated in a tweet that Claressa Shields requested to be placed on the undercard for Jake Paul events on multiple occasions. This was a curious revelation seeing as how adamantly Shields has refused to ever even consider doing such a thing in the past.

In fact, it was her open dismissal of that very idea that sparked a feud between herself and Paul, which included the YouTuber mocking her after her first MMA loss and Shields later challenging Paul to a $100,000 sparring match.

Once Shields saw the tweet from Paul’s management team, she issued a warning about making such claims.

“Somebody bout to get sued for lying on my name. Can’t wait to call my lawyer tomorrow morning.”

“Never have I ever. I’m bout Sue @jakepaul & his team for defamation and of character cause I ain’t never asked to be on no undercard of no YouTuber!”

@BAVAFASports y’all bout to get sued! Because Claressa Shields ain’t never asked to be on Jake Paul undercard. You sound crazy as hell! My lawyer will be reaching out though! Use my name for clout. I’ll use your name for a check losers”

After a fan stated that Shields was continuously being disrespected, the Olympic gold medalist put an end to the discussion with some strong closing remarks.

“They bout to have to write a check they ass gonna hate having to cash. Because you talk trash but lying on me is another story! I’m a BIG BOSS WITH A BIG LAWYER!”

Claressa Shields will be competing again on January 29 against Ema Kozin in a boxing match. Her MMA return has not yet been set, though she plans to compete again in 2022 following her loss to Abigail Montes in October.

Do you believe Claressa Shields has a potential legal case against Jake Paul and his representation for defamation of character?

Claressa Shields has made the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 list under the Sports category.

Shields was the only boxer or mixed martial artist to make the list. The 26-year-old is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and is undefeated as a professional boxer at 11-0. This year, Shields went 2-0 in boxing, with victories over Marie-Eve Dicaire and Ivana Habazin, both via unanimous decision.

Shields also made her MMA debut with the Professional Fighters League. She was successful in her debut, pulling out a come-from-behind victory over Brittney Elkin. She would then lose her follow-up bout to Abigail Montes, however.

Heading into her bout against Montes, Shields acknowledged that she’s learning as she goes, but expressed rocksteady confidence once her overall skillset matches her hands.

“I’ve been learning on the job, and I’ve been just getting better and better,” Shields told The Albuquerque Journal. “… I’m being taught armbars and stuff, and I’m being taught how to get out of them. They’re showing me rear naked chokes, and I’m doing really good in wrestling and getting in great positions.

“That’s stuff that used to confuse me. Now I actually feel good doing them, and that’s just giving me more confidence for the future.”

Shields joins the ranks of NBA star Devin Booker, MLB’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott to make this year’s Forbes list, to name a few.

Shields is currently scheduled to box Ema Kozin on January 29 and is expected to make her MMA return next year as well, though a hard date has not been set as of yet.

Is there anybody else from MMA that you think would be a good addition to join Claressa Shields on the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 List?

Claressa Shields is done taking social media seriously.

After Claressa Shields suffered the first loss of her two-fight MMA career in October, the downpour of criticism was unsurprising. The pointing, laughing, and “I told you so’s” are to be expected from naysayers regardless of the generation, but even more so in today’s social media age.

In the case of Claressa Shields, the king troll was Jake Paul, who particularly took great pleasure in watching Shields lose to Abigail Montes. Paul is obviously the most famous of Shields’ detractors and the one she individually has responded to, but he’s far from the only one. In fact, immediately after losing to Montes, Shields felt the need to lock her Twitter account, evidently to shield herself from the maelstrom of negativity that is commonly found on the internet.

Those days are over now. Shields is done avoiding interacting with her critics, so much so that she even addressed them directly in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

“Y’all take social media serious, I take my legacy serious. We are not the same,” Sheilds posted.

Shields is currently set to make her return to boxing on December 11 against Ema Kozin. There is no word yet on when her next MMA bout will be.

If Shields had it her way, she would squeeze in another contest with her lead troll, Jake Paul, to show just how seriously she takes her craft. The Olympic gold medalist offered to face Paul in a $100,000 sparring session. Paul has not yet responded directly to Shields’ offer as of this writing.

Claressa Shields Offers To Spar Jake Paul For $100,000

Claressa Shields is putting up $100,000 to prove a point against YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul.

Claressa Shields and Jake Paul have gone back-and-forth on social media ever since Shields blasted the YouTuber and said she would never fight on one of his undercards. Since then, the two have taken shots at one another on social media, including Paul mocking Shields for suffering her first loss in MMA last month.

Now, Shields says she will put up $100,000 to spar Paul.

“He isn’t even going to take an offer to come and spar me,” Shields told Sports Illustrated. “I have put $100,000 on the table. And whoever wins in sparring can walk away with the money. And I bet you will all I will walk away with the dough, Jake Paul would not risk it. Nobody on his team would tell him to risk it, because they know he can’t do anything with me. Despite all of my accomplishments I had this MMA split decision loss, and he was like ‘Amanda Serrano is better, she’s this and that’. You don’t even have an accomplishment to say my name.”

Although Claressa Shields is putting up a sparring offer against Jake Paul, it’s unlikely the former Disney star and YouTuber would take the offer. Firstly, Paul is focusing on his December 18 fight against Tommy Fury in Tampa. After that, the holidays are up and he will no doubt want to celebrate if he gets the win. Also, Paul has little to nothing to gain by sparring Shields for $100,000 because money is no problem for him.

Regardless, even if the sparring match between Jake Paul and Claressa Shields doesn’t happen, there’s no question the rivalry will continue for the foreseeable future.

“You’ve never been to the Olympics,” Shields continued. “What did you make the Olympics on YouTube? That s*** don’t exist. That’s fake. When it comes to the real world of boxing, Jake Paul will never be no world champion. He can just keep picking his opponents. Him coming at me, it made him feel better about himself, you still suck at boxing. You still don’t have no accomplishments. You still wouldn’t dare get in the same ring with me, let alone spar. And, he’s just not even worth wasting my breath. The dude is pathetic.”

Cris Cyborg Sends Encouragement to Claressa Shields Following First Loss

Cris Cyborg has sent some encouraging words to PFL’s Claressa Shields.

Current Bellator featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is reaching out to a fellow fighter with some praise. Cyborg took to Twitter to send some admiration to PFL fighter Claressa Shields following her loss last Wednesday night at PFL 10. The loss was the first-ever for Shields who is making the transition over to MMA from boxing.

“Keep your head up @Claressashields I love how you are young and courageous and not afraid to challenge yourself,” Cyborg wrote. “The way you’re inspiring an entire generation of women to not be afraid of greatness is what makes you so powerful!”

Shields had a very successful career in boxing before she decided to make the move over to MMA. This bout against Abigail Montes was only her second MMA bout. It was a close fight but ultimately Shields lost the split decision.

Shields trains at the popular Jackson/Wink MMA gym in Albuquerque, NM. Her training partners there consist of UFC roster fighters such as Holly Holm, Jon Jones, and Michelle Waterson. She has trained with Cyborg in the past. The two have sparred together and Cyborg has been very supportive of her quest in her MMA career. They have exchanged words on social media before.

Shields initially signed a three-year deal with Professional Fighters League, so this MMA thing is not a short-term goal. The plan was to get Shields some experience before pinning her up against top opponents in the actual featherweight season of PFL. Still, despite this setback, she could be an active member of the PFL roster and season for 2022 and be gunning for the one million dollar prize at the end of the year.

Dana White Hopes Claressa Shields Knocks Out Jake Paul

Dana White Claressa Shields

Unsurprisingly, Dana White has a ton of respect for Claressa Shields and none for Jake Paul.

While Shields is currently competing for the PFL and not the UFC, White still has a tremendous amount of respect for her. In fact, after her first ever pro defeat, dropping a split decision to Abigail Montes, he was still incredibly supportive of the pro boxing champion.

Speaking in a recent interview with MMA Fighting, White had immensely high praise for Shields, simply to cross over from boxing to MMA. Then for her to lose but have one judge thinking she won the fight, he says that is worthy of respect too.

“Nothing but respect for Claressa Shields. To be looked at as the best female boxer, and to come over here and start training and start to do this, not easy and nothing but respect for her. She lost a split decision… which is even more impressive that in her second fight she loses a split decision, which means one of the judges thought she won the fight. So nothing but respect for her, and she should just keep plugging along, keep training, and keep doing what she’s doing, and she’s a very talented, gifted athlete. Crazy that anybody’s saying anything to her,” White said.

Dana White took it a bit further when he heard that Jake Paul was one of the crazy people who was criticizing Claressa Shields. The two had been going back and forth for a while, but the UFC bossman thought it was crazy that someone with Paul’s resume would diss someone like Shields, saying that he hopes she knocked the YouTuber turned boxer out.

“(Jake Paul) better be careful. She might knock him out. She might knock him out actually, he better be careful… So Jake Paul calls Claressa Shields a loser? Claressa Shields is nothing but a winner who actually fought real people, in her own weight class, in her own age, in her own sport, and then goes over to MMA and tries to win a world title. That’s not a loser, that’s a winner. When are you going to start fighting somebody your own fucking age, your own weight, that actually fights in your own fucking sport that you’re claiming you’re in? Shut the fuck up, you goofball. For you to call Claressa Shields a loser is fucking unbelievable… I hope he runs into her somewhere and she knocks him the fuck out.”

With the amount of praise that Dana White has for Claressa Shields, it does make one wonder if he will ever try to sign her to fight in the UFC. At least that way, she does not have to worry about fighting on the undercard of a Jake Paul fight.
