UFC commentator Michael Bisping thinks welterweight star Nate Diaz should sign a rematch with Clay Guida after turning down Khamzat Chimaev.

Diaz has one fight left on his UFC contract, and it’s unclear if the promotion plans on re-signing him to a new deal. Diaz last fought earlier this year against Leon Edwards at UFC 263, losing by a unanimous decision.

It was originally expected that Diaz could fight the rising welterweight contender Chimaev next, but Diaz publically turned down the fight and referred to Chimaev as a “rookie”.

During a recent episode of his Believe You Me podcast, Bisping advocated for a Diaz vs. Guida rematch.

“Khamzat [Chimaev], whilst showing the potential and being a potential contender down the line, isn’t a contender right now,” Bisping said. “And isn’t ranked in the top five so I don’t blame him for saying that. Clay Guida, if I am Nate Diaz, I would take that fight. I’m not sure the UFC would wanna do that fight, who knows. I mean, Clay Guida is a fan favorite. Every time he goes out there, his brother slaps him. Of course, we know he burps all over the fing place as well. He’s a great guy, He’s had a great career. As I said, he’s in the Hall of Fame for that fight that he had with Diego Sanchez. Yeah, f it. Nate Diaz-Clay Guida 2. F***ing Clay deserves it. That would be amazing to see.”

Nate Diaz Still Remains One Of The UFC’s Biggest PPV Stars

Diaz’s stock surged after his upset win against Conor McGregor at UFC 196. He has blossomed into one of the UFC’s biggest draws and continues to be relevant in the welterweight division.

Guida is fresh off his improbable comeback win against Leonardo Santos at UFC Vegas 44, overcoming a near knockout to finish Santos in the second round.

A Diaz/Guida rematch could make a lot of sense for both men years after the first time they competed.

Clay Guida wants to run things back with Nate Diaz next.

Guida made headlines last night at UFC Vegas 44 after he bounced back from adversity to submit Leonardo Santos in the second round of their lightweight matchup.

It earned “The Carpenter” a performance bonus as well as praise from many within the combat sports world.

Although he is at a stage where he just wants to keep competing and winning as much as possible, Guida had an interesting name for whom he’d like to face next.

“We just want to stay on the gas pedal,” Guida said at the post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “Stay active and there’s still one dude out there with our name on him. I beat him once. I’ll give him another chance.

“Nate Diaz, I know you’re out there. You can’t run. You can’t hide. I know you’re going to turn the fight down and probably won’t even know that we want to fight you, but if you ever want to do it again, buddy, I’ll give you a shot at it. Let me know.”

Clay Guida Will Fight Anybody

It may surprise some newer fans to know that Guida already beat Diaz.

Guida came out on top with a split decision victory when they competed all the way back in 2009. However, Diaz has become a mainstream star since and in reality, is unlikely to face Guida anytime soon.

Guida acknowledges this which is why he is willing to fight anyone.

“We’ll fight anybody,” Guida said. [The UFC] know that. I’m not sure what [Chris] Gruetzemacher did tonight? He lost? I was going to see if they wanted to do a matchup of the ugliest guys in the UFC, the two ugliest cavemen. If he wants to do that, we can do that. I don’t know how they are pairing up a guy that got his hand raised against a guy that didn’t but I think it’s good timing.

“I’ve always liked that fight. He’s fun to watch. He looks like me. He’s got a little bit more hair than I do. Maybe we can get that one in the books in the future or the guy that he fought [Claudio Puelles]. I’m up for whoever.”

UFC lightweight Clay Guida feels now is the perfect time to get a rematch against Nate Diaz after his improbable win at UFC Vegas 44.

It was looking to be a disastrous night for Guida against Leonardo Santos after he got caught with some hard strikes on the feet and got dropped early in the fight. After somehow surviving some big blows to the head, he was able to grapple his way out of trouble and survive through the first round.

Santos appeared to be gassed out entering Round 2, and Guida took advantage of the opportunity and sunk in a rear-naked choke for the comeback win. It snapped a recent skid of losses in three of his previous four fights.

During his UFC Vegas 44 post-fight press conference, Guida said he still wants another shot at Diaz before their careers are over.

“We just wanna stay on the gas pedal, stay active, and there’s still one dude out there with our name on him,” Guida said. “I beat him once, I’ll give him another chance. Nate Diaz, I know you’re out there. You can’t run, you can’t hide. I know you’re gonna turn the fight down, you probably won’t even know we want to fight you again. But if you ever want to do it again, buddy, I’ll give you a shot. Let me know.”

Clay Guida Earned A Close Win Over Nate Diaz At UFC 94

Guida has been a mainstay in the UFC’s lightweight division since he made his UFC debut back in 2006 at UFC 64. Coincidentally, his first UFC loss came against Din Thomas in 2007, and Thomas was part of the broadcast crew for his UFC Vegas 44 victory.

Guida has fought most of the top names that have come through the lightweight division; including Diego Sanchez, Anthony Pettis, and Rafael dos Anjos. Despite his long career in the promotion, he has yet to fight for a title.

Since their first fight, Diaz has emerged as a top star in the UFC and has recently focused on a run at welterweight. He most recently fell to Leon Edwards earlier this year at UFC 263.

It’s unclear whether or not Guida still has it in him to make another title run, but Diaz is still searching for an opponent for his UFC return. A throwback matchup between Guida and Diaz could be the fight to make if both sides want to make it happen.
