Shots Fired: Brendan Schaub Goes All-Out Personal On Dana White

Oh my. Brendan Schaub is throwing SMOKE at Dana White.

Earlier today the mixed martial arts world was besieged by a strange online feud between UFC president Dana White and former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub.

The feud centered on UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya’s interpretation of Schaub’s recent assessment that high-level kickboxers rarely made a seamless transition to MMA, something that the rising

“Last Stylebender” took offense to on his personal Instagram. Schaub later clarified that he was talking about kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki, who was knocked out at last week’s UFC 226, but not before White intervened and went off on Schaub’s own credentials:

“Such a (expletive) tool!!!! What the (expletive) does this idiot know about the sport or the business??? @stylebender for u to be listening to one word from this MORON is a waste of ur time. Guy went 6-5 in the UFC!!! The only thing he could teach u is how to get KO’d. Tune idiots like this OUT.”

White was met with a comment from a fan that focused on Schaub’s verifiable success as a podcast host and stand-up comedian, to which White suggested was only because of his friendship with Joe Rogan:

“He’s successful? As soon as Rogan stops carrying him he’ll disappear.”

Apparently, Schaub had enough of White’s callout, as he issued an incendiary reply that went off on White’s so-called inability to run the UFC without his onetime partners the Fertitta brothers – something that may be coming true as UFC ratings and pay-per-view buys continue to slump. “Big Brown” focused on the UFC’s current attempts to regain mainstream success by booking fighters like CM Punk and Brock Lesnar as another sign White couldn’t do his job without Frank and Lorenzo:

I tried to be cool. @danawhite #Icandoyourjobyoucantdomine ?

The ‘eskimo brothers’ dig at the end of the flame-worthy post has the Internet ablaze based on the assumption that White also had sex with Schaub’s ex-girlfriend, Ronda Rousey.

While that’s quite the assumption with no evidence to back it up as of now, it’s safe to say Schaub is fired up and speaking his true feelings about White – many of which may hold at least some degree of truth as the UFC keeps struggling.

Regardless, the gloves are off, so don’t expect this to be the last update in this developing rivalry. Stay tuned fight fans.

Is the UFC dead set on a WWE approach?

The UFC has looked a lot different since being sold back in 2016.

Since being purchased by Hollywood giant WME-IMG, many fans claim the UFC has begun to look a lot more like WWE.

Belts, rankings, wins – none of these things seem to play a significant role in a fighter’s success with the promotion under the new regime. Trash talking and WWE-style promotion has become the new norm for the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotional juggernaut.

This past weekend (Sat. July 7, 2018) Daniel Cormier became the second ever dual-weight champion in UFC history when he defeated Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight crown in the main event of UFC 226. Cormier also holds the UFC light heavyweight title.

In the heavyweight division, Curtis Blaydes seems like the next legitimate challenger for the heavyweight strap. Cormier addressed Blaydes in his post-fight press conference and noted that at this point in his career he would find it difficult fighting a lesser-known opponent like “Razor.”

Instead, Cormier is expected to fight the returning Brock Lesnar in his next heavyweight bout. “The Beast” was in attendance for Saturday’s PPV and confronted Cormier inside the cage after his victory, which resulted in a shoving match:

”I’m at a point now where it’s going to be very difficult to fight a Curtis Blaydes,” Cormier said. “It’s like, do you want to go to war and make so much less money? If I fight Brock Lesnar, I’m getting paid.”

Blaydes recently took to Twitter to voice his frustrations over the new WWE-style promotion taking place in the UFC. He pointed to the recent CM Punk hysteria and Brock Lesnar’s return as prime reasons for his concerns:

Sage Northcutt was impressed by CM Punk and has decided to commend him for it.

Despite the nice words from the UFC lightweight prospect, Punk did not get done what he had set out to achieve.

As seen in the opening bout of the main card for the UFC 225 pay-per-view event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, fellow welterweight Mike Jackson was able to beat Punk, real name Phil Brooks, by unanimous decision.

He lost in his MMA debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016 by first round submission. Despite not having a ton of experience, White gave the former WWE champion another shot at fighting inside of the Octagon. Now after two straight losses, Punk is not likely to fight again under the UFC banner.

Northcutt talked about Punk in an appearance on the latest episode of “I Could Never Be.” Keep in mind that Northcutt and the former WWE champion have something in common, which is the fact that both of them having been submitted by Gall.

If you recall, Northcutt lost to Gall in a welterweight bout that followed Gall’s win over Punk.

This has led to Northcutt dropping down to lightweight and has scored two straight wins. Northcutt also made it clear that he doesn’t have a problem with the UFC giving Punk a third fight in the Octagon.

“He’s a very nice guy, and I know that he’s got to be putting in the training and effort,” said Northcutt, who met Punk once before while training with Tyron Woodley at Roufusport in Milwaukee (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “It takes a while to be able to get to the, I guess, get all the skill set that these guys that train 20 or 30 years for, have been in the UFC for so long, have trained their whole lives for. So, he came from WWE and now fighting for the UFC, I think it took him so much courage. It takes anybody courage to be able to step out there in the octagon and fight, and I think he did a great job.”

“I guess it’s up to him to see what he’s going to do, but I know that if he does have another fight, he’ll be training super hard for it, and he’s got to,” Nortcutt said. “And if he does it, he definitely has the courage and bravery to get out there because not everybody can do that.”

Northcutt will fight Zak Ottow at UFC Fight Night 133, which is slated to go down on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.
