CM Punk is a former WWE star and had a brief stint in MMA. He had no amateur experience and was signed right to the UFC for his pro debut. Although he lost both fights and has not fought since June of 2018, many wonder if he is done.

Punk’s teammates recently came out and said he is still training and the door could possibly be open. Now, the former WWE star was interviewed and said he believes if he wants a third fight in the Octagon he thinks he could get it.

“I don’t know. That’s another thing about me: I’ll never say never,” Punk said on Collider Live (h/t MMA News). “I doubt I’ll fight in the UFC again. I’ve had these conversations with Dana. But he says stuff to the media, but then he’ll say something different to you in person. But I’m still great friends with him, great situation.

“I think if I went to him, I was like, ‘Hey, can I get a third fight?,” I think he would say yeah. But I haven’t done that.”

Of course, CM Punk lost to Mickey Gall in his first fight. There, he was dominated and submitted in the first round at UFC 203. Then, months later at UFC 225 he returned and was dominated for three rounds by Mike Jackson. It was a fight Punk could win, but did not look good at all.

Now, he is wondering if he should go fight elsewhere. He realizes he has a unique career where he did not have amateur experience and instead started in the UFC.

“A big part of me was like, ‘OK, I’m 0-2.’ Like, if I fight, I should fight somewhere else: do everything backwards: start in the UFC, and then work your way back down, and then end in amateur.”

Whether or not he will fight again is to be seen. But, CM Punk believes he could very well make the walk to the Octagon again if he so wants to.

Do you think we will see CM Punk fight in the UFC again?

CM Punk is not giving up on his dream — if he’s offered another fight in the UFC, he will definitely be taking it.

The former WWE champion is 0-2 in the sport and doesn’t seem likely to compete, at least in the UFC again. However, he still trains at Roufussport and recently began commentating for Cage Fury Fighting Championships.

In an interview with ESPN, he admitted his future with mixed martial arts (MMA) may be more towards the commentating side. But that doesn’t mean he will decline a potential fight offer:

“Yeah, maybe,” Punk responded when asked about mainly commentating. “It definitely feels like that. There’s a gray area, obviously. Man, I would love to get a W, but I’m f—ing old. Training camps aren’t easy when you’re old and you have as many miles on your body as I do. I break everything down into, ‘Do I love this? No, I don’t love it? Then I’m not gonna do it anymore.’ And training and CFFC are things that I very much love to do, so I’m gonna continue to do them.

I’ve said a long time ago, you never say never, and I think it’s kind of a billionaire’s mindset — if somebody offers you something, you say yes to it and then you figure out how to do it.

Punk Still With The UFC

Punk confirmed he’s still a member of the UFC roster, even adding that he recently took a drug test with the United States Anti-Doping Agency. He continues to train because he loves it, though he doesn’t know if any fight will ever come in the horizon:

“I don’t have any date,” Punk said. “I don’t even know what I’m gonna do. I love the s— out of it, so I still do it.

Even if he doesn’t fight again, though, the Chicago native came to terms about his UFC future ages ago. That is why he wouldn’t be surprised if they called to tell him that he’d been cut:

“I think I’m just kind of floating right now,” he added. “But have I been offered anything? No, I haven’t. Every time somebody calls me, though, I’m like, “Oh, this is it, I’m cut.” I think I’ve come to terms with it. I’d be like, ‘All right.’”

Do you think Punk will ever compete again?

Colby Covington: CM Punk Has More Octagon Time & Two Less KO Losses Than Ben Askren

Ben Askren hasn’t made any friends in the welterweight division since joining the UFC.

Especially former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington. So when Askren was knocked out in just five seconds at UFC 239 this past weekend, “Chaos” certainly enjoyed himself. In fact, he predicted that his American Top Team training partner and friend, Jorge Masvidal, would get the job done with a flying knee, as he told “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” earlier today (Mon. July 8, 2019):

“I predicted it,” Covington said. “I said [in a recent interview] he was going to pull out a big knockout win the knee, and that’s exactly what he did, so I’m super happy for him. He’s back on a little win streak, two wins in a row, you know, two and two in his last four. I couldn’t be happier for him.

“Now we’re at the top of the mountain. We’re doing things we’ve been talking about for the past eight years. I’ve been living and training with that guy for the last eight years at American Top Team. We had dreams and visions of making it to the top of the mountain together, and now here we are, the top of the mountain. So, very thankful for having him by my side, but now it’s business time.”

Given the fact that it was Askren who was the one getting knocked out, Covington said it made the victory all the sweeter:

“Oh, yeah, it made it so much sweeter, you know?” Covington said. “For a guy with aspergers that’s always talking about my IQ level – lets check his IQ level. We should check Askren’s IQ level. His brain has got to be real scrambled today.”

Covington took one final chance to mock Askren’s defeat by pointing out former WWE star CM Punk has more Octagon time than “Funky.” He also claims that Punk (who has never been finished via strikes) also has two less knockout losses on his record, as Covington is suggesting Robbie Lawler should’ve been given the knockout win over Askren in their fight at UFC 235:

“Fun fact,” Covington said. “CM Punk has spent more time in the UFC Octagon and has tow less KO losses than Askren. So I think Askren needs to go back to Asia with all the other inferior products.”

What do you make of Covington’s comments comparing Askren to Punk?
