Cody Garbrandt ‘Excited’ to Coach The Ultimate Fighter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMo120m81Mw

Cody Garbrandt views his opportunity to coach on The Ultimate Fighter as a chance to grow as a fighter.

Garbrandt, the reigning UFC bantamweight champion, will coach opposite TJ Dillashaw on the 25th season of the show. It is slated to air beginning this April on FOX Sports 1.

“I’m excited and honored to come in here and see how I am as a coach and change these guys’ lives,” Garbrandt said. “The storylines and the excitement between me and TJ. These guys have been here before and are battling back. The fighters want to prove they belong back on the big show.”

Garbrandt and Dillashaw were once teammates in California at Team Alpha Male, but Dillashaw – a former UFC champion – left for Colorado.

Last month, Garbrandt won the title from Dominick Cruz. He mentioned a possible rematch immediately afterwards, but is now slated to face Dillashaw instead.

“I have respect for Dominick, but I whooped on you, I clowned you. There’s a new hit list,” he said. “TJ is next, then Jose Aldo and then Conor McGregor. I know what it’s going to be like with TJ because we’ve trained together.”

Cody Garbrandt has no love for TJ Dillashaw…

Since winning the bantamweight title at UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt has been very vocal. From possible fights with Conor McGregor & Jose Aldo, to a rematch with Dominick Cruz, ‘No Love’ has proven open to all avenues. Following the announcement of The Ultimate Fighter 25 this past weekend, Garbrandt’s talk has been honed on one man; TJ Dillashaw. Former Team Alpha Male stablemates and sparring partners, Garbrandt & Dillashaw’s coaching stint on TUF will be filled with rich history.

‘The Viper’ famously left TAM for greener pastures, stating the better pay in Colorado as his main incentive. This decision led to a backlash from fans, as well as Alpha Male founder Urijah Faber. Now Faber has decided to hang up the gloves, Garbrandt’s victory over Cruz sees ‘No Love’ become the alpha. As such, the newly minted champ inherits the beef with Dillashaw. The Ohio-born 25-year old has made good of the time since the TUF announcement, trolling Dillashaw mercilessly.

Garbandt Stalks Dillashaw on IG

Taking to Instagram, former champion TJ Dillashaw posted his announcement of the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. The show starts recording this month, and so the time for trash talk is now. Check out Garbrandt’s latest jab at his old sparring partner:

Steroids?

Interestingly, Garbrandt is not the first of Dillashaw’s former team mates to mention juicing. Faber also accused ‘The Viper’ of looking like a teenager since USADA came around. Add in the redacted story from Justin Bucholz about ‘No Love’ TKOing Dillashaw in sparring, and we have a great rivalry. Featuring an all-star cast of former contestants and UFC veterans, TUF 25 looks like it’s gonna be a good season. How will it stack up against the classic coaches rivalries over the years, though?

Cody Garbrandt Plans On Chopping Off ‘Snake’ TJ Dillashaw’s Head

During five rounds of entertaining action at UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt did what nobody had done before. ‘No Love’ became the first man to ever beat Dominick Cruz at his own game. Earlier in Cruz’s career he’d lost by first round submission to Urijah Faber, but never had he been dominated like this. Earning a one-sided decision win, the newly minted champion has been very vocal about a potential rematch. Until yesterday, a second dance with Cruz was still possible for Garbrandt’s first defense. Then came the news of ‘No Love’ coaching The Ultimate Fighter 25 opposite TJ Dillashaw.

Featuring an ‘all-star’ cast of former TUF contestants and UFC veterans, the popular show will now have a tense rivalry too. As a former Team Alpha Male fighter, ex-champ ‘The Viper’ has a lot of history with Garbrandt. Since leaving TAM to join Elevation in Colorado, a rift between Dillashaw and his former team has developed. ‘The California Kid’ had a well publicized feud with TJ, and now it seems that beef has passed on to the next generation.

No Love For ‘Snakes’

Taking to his Instagram account, Cody Garbrandt fired the first of likely many shots at TJ Dillashaw. Here’s what ‘No Love’ had to say, in the form of a well drawn troll of his ex-stablemate:

Other Fights For Garbrandt

Discussing two other options for further down the line, ‘No Love’ has recently mentioned Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo. The current bantamweight champion had been involved in a scuffle with ‘The Notorious’ during the Irishman’s stint as TUF coach. Now the Team Alpha Male striker has UFC gold, he’s laying out a few plans as per TMZ:

“Jose Aldo, he’s a legend of the sport and it’s a great match up stylistically. Then there’s Conor, he is still out there, whenever he wants to come back. There are a lot of fights, but I want to defend my title and instill my dominance in my division. Then we’ll see what’s out there, whether it’s Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor, or whoever.”

Dominick Cruz: Garbrandt Just Backed Up & Danced The Whole Fight

Dominick Cruz is coming off of his first mixed martial arts (MMA) loss in almost a decade, when 25-year-old knockout artist Cody Garbrandt shook up the 135-pound weight class by out-classing ‘The Dominator’ for 25 minutes and capturing the division’s crown.

The defeat marks only the second notch in Cruz’s loss column, where his first came at the hands of Garbrandt’s coach and mentor, Urijah Faber, who submitted the now-former bantamweight champ back in 2007 during his WEC debut. After two follow-up attempts to get the job done one more time in the UFC proved unsuccessful, Faber was able to groom and mold ‘No Love’ to give Team Alpha Male its first victory over Cruz.

Following his historic win Garbrandt instantly started laying the foundation for an immediate rematch with Cruz, brushing off former teammate and No. 2-ranked TJ Dillashaw’s claim to the next shot at the title.

Cruz recently co-hosted TMZ Sports (via MMA Fighting) and discussed Garbrandt’s desire to promptly rematch him, to which the Alliance MMA product stated ‘No Love’ is pushing for the bout because he knows it’s the only fight that ‘raises the bar’ in the 135-pound division:

“I expect him to be mad at me from that camp. I embarrassed him pretty good leading up to it with the things that I said which where the honest truth and he proved they were the truth by getting mad. But more than anything he keeps saying, ‘I’m at the top’ and ‘rematch, rematch.’ You’ve got the title. Why are you asking to rematch me?

“He knows that I am better than him. He wants the rematch because I’m the only fight that really raises the bar in this division.”

Throughout the course of the match-up Garbrandt continued to mock Cruz by dancing, sticking his tongue out, and even dropping down to the canvas for a quick push-up before bouncing back up and resuming to fight. While fans in attendance and watching at home on pay-per-view (PPV) may have enjoyed Garbrandt’s shenanigans, Cruz isn’t too big of a fan:

“If you’re in there to fight me fight me. Don’t back up the whole time and dance… He’s trying to portray that he’s this tough guy that wanted it to go that long.”

It is expected that Cruz will take some time off before returning to Octagon action once again, but one thing is for sure to him — Upon his return he will be competing for the title once again, but as for his opponent, he isn’t 100 percent sure it’ll be Garbrandt standing across from him:

“Whenever I come back, I’m fighting for the title. I don’t know who it’s gonna be though.”

“It was a good fight. It was competitive the whole time. I’m out there to put a show on. that team alone has 35 rounds against me. It was about time they got one.”

Augusto Mendes: ‘I Truly Believe I Can Defeat Cody Garbrandt’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHOV5N-Esnk

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight Augusto Mendes didn’t have a smooth debut for the promotion. He was welcomed to the Octagon by Cody Garbrandt, who showed him “No Love” with a first round TKO finish. Just 10 months later, Garbrandt captured the 135-pound title.

“Tanquinho” told MMAJunkie.com that the loss irks him almost one year later. The Brazilian believes he can beat the champion:

“I’m still bothered by that loss. I truly believe that I can defeat him. He’s a very good opponent. I knew that when I accepted the fight, even though he wasn’t champion at the time. He was chasing his title shot. I knew I could defeat him. I only had five days to get ready. He faced someone who wasn’t at his best.”

Mendes will try to earn his first UFC win when he meets Frankie Saenz at this Sunday night’s (Jan. 15) UFC Fight Night event in Phoenix, Arizona. A loss would put Mendes at two straight and may cause him to be released from the UFC. He doesn’t seem concerned about the possible consequences.

“I don’t worry about what the UFC may choose to do. If they let one of us go, that’s their prerogative. I’ll show up to do my job. If I win or if I lose, that’s fine. The UFC can decide if they want to keep me. I’m showing up to win.”

Mendes has yet to earn a spot on the UFC’s bantamweight rankings. He feels a win over Saenz will put him one step closer to appearing on that list.

“It’s a good fight for me, so I can show that I can go far in our weight class. I plan to shut him down like no one else has. My plan is to win so I can be in the rankings.”
