On Wednesday, Combate Americas made a special announcement regarding the addition of a new Spanish cable television deal.

Azteca television (TV 7 in Mexico, Azteca America in the United States) will now be the official Spanish-language broadcast partner of Combate Americas in both the United States and Mexico.

The new TV deal includes the airing of live monthly events and kicks off with an event headlined by a rematch of the first-ever Combate Americas main event in New York, as John “Sexy Mexy” Castadena and Gustavo Lopez will once again meet inside the cage and if both can make weight this time around (Castadena failed to do so the first time around0, the first-ever Combate Americas Bantamweight Title will be awarded to the winner.

In their first meeting at the “Empire Rising” event earlier this month, Castadena defeated Lopez via TKO in their five-round battle from the event that was held on October 14th in Verona, New York.

The rematch between the Bantamweight contenders will go down at the first event as part of the aforementioned new cable television deal, as Castadena-Lopez 2 will headline the event scheduled for January 19th at Teatro Moliere in Mexico City, Mexico

The new TV also includes a weekly show called “Combate Americas Azteca,” which will feature video highlights of previous fight cards, interviews and other content. The premiere edition of the program will air on November 3rd at 10pm EST.

This Friday, history will be made as Combate Americas will bring the first-ever night of professional mixed-martial-arts action to the Empire State with their “Empire Rising” event.

Airing on NBC UNIVERSO, Combate Americas “Empire Rising” event will feature the promotion’s first-ever world title fight, as John “Sexy Mexy” Castaneda (11-2) takes on Gustavo Lopez (6-1) in the main event with the World Bantamweight Championship on the line.

Also on the card is the return of former UFC fighter and veteran of The Ultimate Fighter reality show Matt Hamill (11-7), as the Superstar deaf athlete takes on Julian Marquez (3-1) in light heavyweight action.

Former WWE Star Alberto Del Rio Named President Of Combate Americas

On Tuesday, MMA promotion Combate Americas, which is led by former UFC co-founder Campbell McLaren, announced that former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio (Jose Alberto Rodriguez) has joined the promotion as its’ new President.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Combate Americas and bring MMA to a new group of fans – Hispanics,” said the former WWE Superstar, who has been using the name “Alberto El Presidente” since parting ways with WWE earlier this year following a 30-day suspension for violating the company’s Wellness Policy.

Previously, it was announced that Del Rio was going to be working with the promotion as an announcer, however since parting ways with WWE, the pro wrestler who famously fought Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic back in PRIDE FC in Japan has expressed interest in running an MMA promotion.

The announcement regarding Alberto Del Rio joining Combate Americas as the new President was made on Tuesday evening at the promotion’s “Combate NUEVE” press event in New York City.
