Conor McGregor reveals exact moment he broke his toe, forcing him out of UFC 303 fight with Michael Chandler

Conor McGregor shared some shots of the exact moment that he broke his toe, forcing him to bow out of his previously scheduled scrap with former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler.

McGregor’s quote-unquote “greatest comeback in combat sports history” was postponed for the umpteenth time earlier this month after the Irishman revealed that he broke his pinky toe while training. After disclosing the injury, McGregor shared an image of his discolored appendage along with an X-ray revealing the extent of the damage.

Now, we know the exact moment the injury occurred courtesy of a post on the Irishman’s social media.

“Thank you God,” McGregor wrote on X.

McGregor’s post came minutes after Alex Pereira seemingly broke his toe on Jiri Prochazka’s face while landing an incredible second-round head kick to retain his light heavyweight title in Saturday’s UFC 303 headliner.

‘Mystic Mac’ was originally scheduled to headline the promotion’s International Fight Week card in Las Vegas before busting his toe. That paved the way for ‘Poatan’ to step in on 16 days’ notice for a rematch with Prochazka seven months removed from their first meeting at UFC 295 in Madison Square Garden.

Just as he did on that night, Pereira put away ‘BJP’ in the second to take the gold back home to Brazil.

When and where McGregor finally fights Chandler remains to be seen, but perhaps the biggest question on the minds of fight fans right now is, when the hell is Pereira gonna go for a third belt?

Alex Pereira impressed everyone with his highlight-reel finish of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303 — including Conor McGregor.

Stepping into the main event spotlight on just 16 days’ notice, ‘Poatan’ put his light heavyweight title on the line against Prochazka seven months removed from their inaugural meeting at UFC 295. On that night, Pereira scored a second-round knockout of ‘BJP’ to take the 205-pound crown back to Brazil.

On Saturday night, Pereira did it again.

After dropping Prochazka with a left hook in the final second of the first round, Pereira uncorked a perfectly timed head kick five seconds into the second, catching Prochazka clean and dropping him. After a few ground-and-pound strikes for good measure, referee Herb Dean was forced to step in and call for the stoppage a mere 13 seconds into the round.

Taking to social media, Conor McGregor offered his appreciation for Pereira’s technique and execution.

Conor McGregor’s Loss in Alex Pereira’s Gain

Originally, McGregor was supposed to be competing in the UFC 303 headliner, squaring off against former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler. Weeks ahead of fight night, ‘Mystic Mac’ was forced to bow out after breaking his pinky two while training.

That paved the way for Pereira and Prochazka to run back their November 2023 clash in the International Fight Week finale.

With the win, Pereira moved to 8-1 inside the Octagon with all, but two of his wins coming by way of knockout. Saturday’s stunning finish was his first head-kick KO under the UFC banner.

Dustin Poirier backs Conor McGregor to be very dangerous in UFC return fight

Three-time foe of Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier – has backed the Dubliner to make a triumphant return to action – if he ever makes his comeback to the UFC, claiming the ex-champion will likely return in “dangerous” fashion.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined since he fractured his left tibia and fibula against Poirier three years ago, losing the pair’s trilogy rubber match in a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss.

Dustin Poirier backs Conor McGregor to make “dangerous” return

Hoping to land a return before the close of the summer, former duel-weight titleholder, McGregor’s plans for a comeback clash with Chandler were almost immediately shut down by UFC boss, Dana White, who claimed he would not be fighting before October at the very earliest.

“So, he (Conor McGregor) could be back quick or if he needs surgery, we’ll see,” Dustin Poirier told ESPN MMA. “Just looking at his career and the things he’s accomplished, the man has a strong mindset. If he commits himself to being the best he can, if his body allows him to be the best he can I think he’s gonna come back strong.”

“Do we see the vintage Conor McGregor? I’m not sure, but we’re going to see a very dangerous man who’s hungry for a win – and who needs a win, if he does come back,” Poirier explained.

Michael Chandler is set to appear at UFC 303 tomorrow night in ‘Sin City’ despite the cancellation of his clash with former duel-weight champion, Conor McGregor – and claims a grudge match between himself and the Dubliner will take place “quicker” than expected.

Chandler, the current number six ranked lightweight contender, was scheduled to headline UFC 303 tomorrow night during International Fight Week – taking on the previously mentioned, McGregor in a welterweight clash.

“It’s a bittersweet weekend, but we’re having a good time, and we should hopefully be off hiatus quicker than people think,” Michael Chandler told John Morgan. “I’ll tell you what, I do love to fight, but I am a very patient man. And luckily, my life is such that I have done so many things outside of just fighting that I’ve been able to sit out, be patient, still got work outside fighting. [I] stayed busy the last year and a half, and this one didn’t come to fruition.”

“We’re gonna stay patient – we’re not gonna let him (Conor McGregor) off the hook,” Michael Chandler explained. “I like to say, ‘We’re not gonna let him off the hook.’ Talks are happening between me and the UFC, I’m meeting with them tonight actually. I know Conor is gonna be ready to come back soon, ‘cause it’s just a pinky toe {injury), so we’ll see.”

Unhinged Conor McGregor accuses Khabib's gym of holding drug testers hostage: 'All will come out'

Conor McGregor is once again tearing into his old foe, Khabib Nurmagomedov after news of the UFC Hall of Famer’s gym being raided by Russian security forces hit social media.

More than 20 people were killed after armed men attacked a synagogue, churches, and police post in Dagestan, Nurmagomedov’s hometown, on Sunday, June 23. ‘The Eagle’ quickly came out condemning the actions of the then-unidentified men who opened fire and set buildings ablaze in the city of Derbent and Dagestan’s capital Makhachkala.

Dagestan terrorist attack

However, Nurmagomedov quickly found himself embroiled in the controversy when it was revealed that a former fighter from his Eagle MMA gym was one of the militants. Gadzhimurad Kagirov, who was killed by Russian forces during the attack, was a 2-0 mixed martial artist who had been previously trained by Khabib’s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

As a result, Nurmagomdevo’s gym in Makhachkala was raided by Russian security forces, much to the delight of Conor McGregor who shared video footage of the raid with the hashtag #ConorWasRight.

Conor McGregor goes scorched earth on Khabib Nurmagomedov

‘Mystic Mac’ didn’t stop there. He continued his attack on social media, referring to his UFC 229 opponent as “the terrorist,” among other things.

“In the terrorists gym when a tester showed up they would hold him hostage and give a random clean persons urine vs the fighters they were looking to test,” McGregor wrote on X. “All will come out now. When this comes down on top of them watch what surfaces. There is a video of khabib walking into a premise full of people and smashing it up entirely with a bat , threatening all those inside. All will come out. Mystic Mac.”

Conor McGregor

“I fought this little bitch made rat with a full broken foot,” McGregor added in a follow-up post. “I should have postponed like I done this time. For what did I give this little cousin fucker any advantage for. He shit himself on that bus and showed his true chicken heart. Bitch made spoilt brat. Now you are FUCKED! When you die I celebrate!”

Though they only met once inside the Octagon, McGregor and Khabib’s rivalry is among the most fierce in UFC history. Their October 2018 clash still holds the record for the highest-grossing pay-per-view event in promotional history, bringing in more than 2 million buys.

Conor McGregor is feeling a bit of vindication following a series of horrific terrorist attacks in Dagestan, the hometown of his longtime rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

At least 21 people were killed, including 16 police officers, and another 25 were injured after armed men attacked a synagogue, churches, and police post in the city of Derbent and Dagestan’s capital Makhachkala on Sunday, June 23. Per a report from CNN, attackers “set the building on fire using Molotov cocktails” at the synagogue in Derbent while police and security guards were killed outside during the attack.

Sergey Melikov, head of the Dagestan Republic, said at least six “militants” were also killed following the attack, one of which has been identified as Gadzhimurad Kagirov, a former MMA fighter who was once affiliated with Khabib Nurmagomedov and the UFC Hall of Famer’s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

In the wake of the shocking news, Conor McGregor, considered to be Nurmagomedov’s greatest foe inside the Octagon, has stayed busy, tweeting and deleting his thoughts on the situation accompanied with the hashtag #ConorWasRight.

Recently, the Irish megastar once again posted the hashtag in response to a video from Aussie Cossack of Nurmagomedov’s Eagle MMA gym being raided by Russian security forces in Makhachkala.

Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor first accused Khabib of having ties to terrorism in 2018

McGregor first suggested that Nurmagomedov had ties to terrorism in 2018, accusing the former lightweight champion’s manager, Dominance MMA’s Ali Abdelaziz, of being a “lying terrorist snitch” ahead of his record-setting fight with ‘The Eagle’ at UFC 229.

The Washington Post‘s Des Bieler later wrote that McGregor’s comments appeared to be referring to a 2013 book titled Enemies Within: Inside the NYPD’s Secret Spying Unit and bin Laden’s Final Plot Against America. In it, the authors claim that Abdelaziz worked with the New York Police Department and the FBI before they grew concerned he had become a double agent and tried to deport him.

Abdelaziz, of course, is one of the more well-known managers in mixed martial arts, featuring an all-star client list that consists of Nurmagomedov, Kamaru Usman, Justin Gaethje, Henry Cejudo, and Kayla Harrison.
