Alexander Gustafsson targets a fight with one title contender for an upcoming UFC event. This fight would be against Corey Anderson at a show in London. Gustafsson wants to waste no time in 2019 in order to get his next fight booked and have a quick turnaround.

The title contender took to social media in order to make this call out as he wrote the following on his official Instagram account:

“Corey, everyone else at the top is taken,” Gustafsson posted on Monday, “I am eager to get right back inside the cage, You just had a good fight with my brother. So I think it’s the perfect time for us to throw down. Let’s dance on the London card March 16th.”

Anderson is currently on a three-fight winning streak. In his last two fights, back in July, he picked up a decision win over former title contender Glover Teixeira at UFC Hamburg. Most recently at UFC 232, he beat Ilir Latifi by unanimous decision.

This comes off Jones’ return at the UFC 232 PPV where he reclaimed the vacant title over Alexander Gustafsson. It was expected to not take long for someone to call out the new champ and Anderson did just that.

Anderson is currently on a three-fight winning streak. He is coming off wins in back-to-back fights after suffering knockout losses to Jimi Manuwa and Ovince Saint-Preux in 2017. Back in April, he was able to score a decision from Patrick Cummins. Moving along to July, he picked up a decision win over former title contender Glover Teixeira at UFC Hamburg. Most recently at UFC 232, he beat Ilir Latifi by unanimous decision.

The contender got his start in the promotion after winning the Season 19 light heavyweight tournament on The Ultimate Fighter back in 2014. Once he entered the UFC, he was able to win five of his first six fights. However, he then lost three out of four fights before his current run.

In a recent Twitter post, Anderson posted a lengthy message where he compared his current spot to where the other top-ranked fighters.

This led to Jones responding by asking if he wanted the smoke that comes along with fighting him.

Jimi Manuwa Says UFC Persuaded Him To Fight Against Brazilian KO Artist

UFC persuades Jimi Manuwa to fight.

Jimi Manuwa says the UFC persuaded him to take his next fight against Thiago Santos at UFC Fight Night 137 in Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Manuwa was originally supposed to fight Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC Fight Night 137. However, when Teixeira was forced out due to injury, the “Poster Boy” was left without an opponent.

UFC Persuades Manuwa:

At first, the notion of fighting Santos did not excite the Brit. As a matter of fact, Manuwa labored over the decision to accept the fight against the Brazilian. Persistency paid off in the end, and the UFC got their way as they so often do.

“I didn’t see any incentive in taking the fight because it was coming from a middleweight,” Manuwa told MMA Fighting. “I wanted a good name, so I wasn’t really interested in fighting, but then the UFC persuaded me to take the fight. But I had a little think about it, and Thiago Santos is a good fighter, so I accepted the fight.”

A pay increase likely swayed the 38-year-old. Regardless, you get the feeling that Manuwa wanted to do the UFC a solid. After all, the “Poster Boy” is on a two-fight skid.

Taking The Santos:

“Sometimes you want to step up and … not do favors, but you’ve gotta tell me incentives to take the fight,” Manuwa said. “They explained to me, I had a talk with my coaches and my team and we accepted the fight.”

“Everyone else didn’t make sense,” Manuwa added when asked about other potential opponents. “Everyone that was worth fighting already was matched up. It was very hard in the light heavyweight division because people were fighting or injured or unranked.”

“The UFC knows they have to put a good event, a good opponent for me when I’m fighting because they know I’ll always put on a good show, I always come for the knockout. We’re going to put on a great main event for Sao Paulo. I look forward to coming there.”

Santos is tied with Anderson Silva for most knockouts in the middleweight division (8). However, Manuwa doubts the middleweights power will translate at light heavyweight.

UFC Sao Paulo Brazil:

“Every fighter in the UFC is good, I don’t underrate any fighter. I’m training very hard,” Manuwa said. “I see he’s a good fighter, was a big middleweight, so coming up to light heavyweight shouldn’t be a problem for him, I look forward to the challenge, I always look forward to the challenge.”

“I look forward to coming to Brazil,  love Brazil. I’ve always wanted to come to Brazil, and I’m coming to collect some new Brazilian fans because I know Brazilians love a good fight, they love a good knockout, and that’s what I’m coming to give them.”

Since the “Poster Boy” is coming off of back to back losses to Volkan Oezdemir and Jan Blachowicz it was imperative he kept his main event slot on the UFC Sao Paulo card. Whether or not his decision to fight Santos will pay off remains to be seen.
