The ugly situation surrounding UFC interim light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones continues to rule headlines. Yesterday (July 18, 2016) it was confirmed that the former undisputed 205-pound boss and pound-for-pound king had indeed been flagged for estrogen blockers. ‘Bones’ once again argued his innocence once the news had broke, claiming ignorance about the contents of a supplement he’d been using.

After such a jaded past outside the octagon, Jones’ legacy within the realm of combat sports has come under question from many. Former opponent and rival Daniel Cormier has actually remained reasonably quiet on ‘Bones’ and his failed drug test. It’s been mostly a backlash from fighters and fans that Jones has been dealing with, and that includes his UFC 197 opponent Ovince St-Preux.

Jon Jones UFC 197

Jones defeated ‘OSP’ at UFC 197 when ‘DC’ pulled out of the rematch with an injury. The 33-year old fighting out of Knoxville, Tennessee put in a game performance on April 23, but proved to be no match as ‘Bones’ cruised to the unanimous decision. In the wake of the confirmation of PCT (post cycle therapy) substances being found in Jones’ system, St-Preux had some stern words for the troubled interim champ on Facebook:

“On June 18th, Jon Jones was caught taking Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) drugs. This means he was on some form of Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDS) before this date. The only real questions are: When did he start taking them? Was it before his fight with me or after? There are not many people who can answer this question, but Jon Jones is one of them. So, I am asking: When did you start taking PEDS Jon? I wanted to fight the best fighter in the world, but I did not sign up to fight a cheater. So, be a stand-up person, tell us all the truth. We all know you were on PEDS because you got caught taking PCT drugs. Just tell the world the truth.”

Another angle on this developing saga is that Jones team has grossly mismanaged him. Chael Sonnen recently exploded on his podcast, claiming Jones’ management had phoned to complain about ‘The American Gangster’s’ appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience. Sonnen had leaked that estrogen blockers were found in ‘Bones’ system a week ago Monday.

One her highly controversial comment came from Michael H DiSabato on Twitter. The former D1 wrestler once called out Jones for cocaine use months before he tested positive in 2014, taking to social media with the following rants:

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier took to social media Sunday afternoon in order to pay homage to longtime friend and manager Bob Cook. In a recent Instagram post the 37 year-old champion eluded to ‘completing the journey’ following July’s blockbuster event.

The former USA Olympic wrestling team captain began his MMA career at the age of 30 in Strikeforce, defeating Gary Frazier via 2nd round TKO. Over the years, Cormier would earn an undefeated MMA record of 15-0, finishing 10 of those bouts, before taking on the then champion Jon Jones at UFC 182.

Cormier would suffer his first professional MMA loss to Jones via unanimous decision after undergoing a war of words, as well as a physical altercation at a press event, in the months leading up to the light heavyweight showdown.

After Jones was stripped of the title due to legal troubles, Cormier would go on to beat Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson for the vacant belt at UFC 187 in May of last year. DC would also successfully defend his title against top contender Alexander Gustafsson via split decision at UFC 192 five months following his title victory.

Now after a year of patience and obsession DC will get his shot at redemption for his only professional loss, when he defends his UFC light heavyweight championship against hated rival Jon Jones.

The heated rivalry will headline the UFC’s July blockbuster UFC 200 in Las Vegas’ brand-new T-Mobile Arena, as Jones attempts to reclaim the title he never lost and Cormier looks to successfully defend his title against the only man to have ever defeated him inside the Octagon.

Jon Jones Wants To Beat Up DC, Face ‘Rumble’ At MSG

Jon Jones was reluctant to shy away from words Wednesday afternoon at the UFC 200 press conference in New York. The confident interim light heavyweight champion has already made plans following his self-expected UFC 200 win against rival Daniel Cormier:

“I’d love to beat up DC and face Anthony Johnson at Madison Square Garden.”

Jones then stated that Cormier’s confidence is not falsely placed, and that the olympian should be confident coming into their blockbuster bout:

“DC should have a lot of confidence. Outside of me he’s the next best thing. He can beat these other guys but he can’t beat me.”

‘Bones’ also brought up comments the champion made prior to their first bout in January of last year:

“DC has been lying to you guys for a long time now. DC told you guys, and I quote, ‘I’ll take Jon Jones down 10 times out of 10 times if I wanna take him down’. So far we’re five to zero, me.”

Jones then proceeded to mock and tease the champion:

“I foot swept you and held my hand on your head like you’re my bitch. And this guy is supposed to be the olympian? Come on man”

Cormier repeatedly referenced Jones as a ‘bum’ and teased him about his drug abuse and legal troubles. Jones was quick to respond to the champion by referencing his dominating victory over him at UFC 182:

“You call me a bum, I beat you four rounds to one. Your not even my toughest opponent. Your chump change”, said Jones. “Im the bum that took your undefeated record. I had you cryin.”

Jones credited himself as being a true mixed martial artist, as opposed to his adversary who he mentioned as a “wrestler who learned how to punch”.

Personal matters seemed to play a huge role in Jones’ disappointing performance last Saturday, as ‘Bones’ admitted to a number of troubles that have affected him this month:

“My last fight you know, I had a lot of stuff stacked up against me man. A lot of you guys don’t really realize whats going on in my personal life right now”, Jones explained.

“My mom is in a real bad position, she’s really losing a fight to diabetes right now. She got her leg cut off the same week of my fight, and that really messed with me a lot. I was in jail the same month of my fight, just going through a lot of stuff man.”

Jones also responded to criticisms of his poor performance against Ovince St-Preux in last Saturday night’s pay-per-view bout:

“I hadn’t fought in over fifteen months, and you know everyone is talking about my performance being so bad. I got punched twice, I won by unanimous decision.

If thats a bad performance, look at the level people expect from me, it’s not a bad problem to have. I went out there, I didn’t feel comfortable in the octagon and I still absolutely dominated that fight.”

Jones is one-hundred precent confident that on July 9th, in the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, he will beat Daniel Cormier in what is perhaps the biggest card in the promotion’s history:

“I believe I am going to annihilate DC. So far it’s all I’ve ever done, to pretty much every opponent. Alexander Gustafsson is the only person that had a competitive fight with me. So when I sit here and tell you I’m going to annihilate DC, people who don’t believe me, just wait and see”

“Expect to see a hell of a lot more out of me this next fight, I have a strong strategy for DC”, he said. “You guys will see, and new, absolutely.”

There’s been almost a non stop stream of updates regarding the UFC 200 milestone PPV card on July 9, and most of them have stemmed from the featherweight champion Conor McGregor. His short lived retirement cast the massive pay-per-view card in to turmoil last week, and his scheduled opponent Nate Diaz declared he’d be ‘going on vacation.’

Rumours were flying in from all angles, but most people believed the promotion was resorting to WWE-type tactics to further promote this rematch.

It appears after weeks of speculation the UFC 200 main event has finally been made. On the set of ‘Good Morning America’ Wednesday morning, USA Today’s Chamatkar Sandhu tweeted the following picture:

Jones is coming fresh off of a unanimous decision victory over top light heavyweight Ovince St-Preux at UFC 197 this past Saturday. Cormier was sitting cage-side calling the action as his rival made his long awaited return to the octagon after over a year-long layoff form the sport.

Cormier vs Jones

Originally the July card was set to be headlined with a rematch between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, against the man to hand him his first UFC career loss, Nate Diaz. McGregor, however, was reluctant to make some of the necessary travels required for his media obligations, and was thus removed from the summer card.

The Irishman would go on a social media tirade that would set the MMA world on fire, creating great skepticism as to if McGregor would in fact fight at UFC 200. UFC President Dana White has apparently stuck to his guns however, and has kept the Irishman off the card in favor of Cormier vs Jones.

So I guess we can call the beef between the UFC and Conor McGregor legitimate now?
