Perennial UFC welterweight contender, Matt Brown is back in the winner’s enclosure in a big way this evening at UFC Charlotte — rounding out the preliminary card with a stunning opening round knockout win over fellow veteran, Cout McGee.
Featuring against his fellow veteran conteder, Brown managed to close out the preliminary card in their featured bout, stopping the former with a picture-perfect straight right counter, sending him to the canvas with a thud in a spectacular walk-off first round KO victory for the Ohio fan-favorite.
Brown, who holds career wins over Stephen Thompson, Mike Swick, Erick Silva, Tim Means, Diego Sanchez, and Dhiego Lima, adds McGee to his impressive résumé with this evening’s UFC on ABC 4 card, lodging his stunning sixteenth career stoppage via knockout.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to give us exciting new match bookings week by week, and this one is no different, as The Ultimate Fighter 7 contestant Matt Brown is slated to face The Ultimate Fighter 11 winner Court McGee at UFC Fight Night 225.
UFC Fight Night 225 is to go down on May 13, 2023, live from a to-be-determined venue and location.
As it currently sits, UFC Fight Night 225 has three bouts scheduled thus far.
The first of these match ups was announced about a week ago, a light-heavyweight affair between no. 5 ranked Anthony Smith and no. 7 ranked Johnny Walker. Then the UFC recently added a women’s bantamweight clash between Jessica-Rose Clark and Tainara Lisboa, and now of course Brown versus McGee at 170 lbs.
Matt Brown went 2-1 on his season of The Ultimate Fighter, securing both victories via knockout and only losing to eventual season champion Amir Sadollah, while McGee went 3-1 on the show with two submission victories en route to winning his season.
Both of these men have had a bit of a rocky road along the way, but both have also had incredible success through their careers.
Matt Brown defeated eventual multi-time Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima (TKO) before even joining the UFC roster.
Since joining the UFC roster, he became the first man to ever defeat Stephen Thompson (UD), who went on to fight for a UFC championship not once, but twice following, and he also boasts wins over the likes of Mike Swick (KO), Mike Pyle (KO), Erick Silva (TKO), Tim Means (guillotine choke), Diego Sanchez (KO), and Dhiego Lima (KO), which made him 2-0 against the Lima brothers with both victories coming via knockout.
Then we have Court McGee, who came to the UFC with a record of 11-1, only losing to UFC veteran Jeremy Horn in that time.
McGee initially went 5-2 through his first seven octagon appearances, one of those wins coming over future UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (SD), and one coming over longtime veteran Josh Neer (UD). He also defeated Claudio Silva (UD) recently, who was 5-1 in the UFC at the time of their encounter, and he’s gone 2-1 over his last three.

UFC welterweight Jeremiah Wells threw a ‘left hook from hell’ that slept veteran Court McGee on the UFC Austin prelims.
Wells had passed his first two UFC tests entering his fight with McGee. While many believed that McGee could’ve been his toughest test yet, he made quick work of McGee with a wild knockout.
Many of Wells’ UFC colleagues had a lot to say about his performance.
Wells made his UFC debut last June with a second-round TKO win over Warlley Alves. He followed it up with a lopsided victory over Blood Diamond at UFC 271 back in February.
Before signing with the UFC, Wells won the vacant Cage Fury FC welterweight title over Marco Smallman at CFFC 78. He also won the 170lb title in CES earlier in his career.
Wells moves one step closer to a potential spot in the welterweight rankings with the win. He’s won his last five fights overall.
UFC Austin continues to impress with a slew of wild finishes, including from Wells and other athletes. Follow along with all the action here.

Court “The Crusher” McGee delivered a tearful message to those who struggle with drug addiction after a unanimous win at UFC Vegas 46.
With over a decade of sobriety, the American fighter is an inspiration to anyone dealing with drug abuse. Many people struggle with it or know someone who does. The disease has taken the lives of many and has changed the lives of those who won against it.
“Oh man, you’re gonna make me tear up bro. (Tears up.) Great question, no. I didn’t give myself a shot, but the people around me believed in me, and the people that don’t have access to the recovery that I had access to, that’s who I fight for—to show them that it’s possible, that recovery is possible, and that sobriety is possible, and that you can achieve incredible things one day at a time without a drink or drug.”
Drug addiction is a crippling mental illness. The stigma surrounding drug abuse is enough reason for most to keep quiet about their inner struggles with it.
And fighting the battle alone can make it even more difficult. McGee was fortunate to have a great support system and took advantage of it.
“I had a great family. I have great, wonderful parents that are not alcoholic, I have support, I was never neglected, there’s no abuse, and I fell victim to it because I have the disease of addiction and there’s thousands and thousands if not millions of people that struggle with addiction daily in the United States, and so, that message of overcoming adversity, my life story, from homelessness, to heroin addiction, to overcoming that adversity, surrounding myself around people in long-term recovery, and then fighting at a local circuit, making it through the juvenile system, getting expunged, building relationships with my attorney general, Shawn Reyes who’s a close friend of mine[…]”
The UFC fighter created an outlet called MCGeeproject.org for anyone to reach out if they are interested in his motivational speeches. His one message is that recovery is always possible.
Overcome and Inspire
After two recent wins in the UFC, welterweight contender Court McGee continues to show progress.
McGee has struggled, yet conquered, and at 37-years-old, he has established a 22-10 professional record.
Other UFC fighters have also courageously spoken up about their battle with drug addiction.
“Boston Strong” Charles Rosa, who fought along with McGee on the preliminary card at UFC Vegas 46, was once a victim of drug addiction and lost both his brothers to the mental illness.
Mixed martial arts gave Rosa a home. His brothers were his fighting role models, and whenever the featherweight gets in the cage, he gives his all for them.
Lightweight Terrance Mckinney once overdosed and often reminds his fans about the fatal moment via Twitter:
“5 years ago I overdosed and died (twice), 2 years ago I made it to UFC Contender Series and lost, but 3 weeks ago I made my debut and set a record. Don’t let mistakes and losses define you. Every day is a new chance to do better than you were,” reads the 27-year-old’s pinned tweet.
That record-setting debut stopped the show in 7 seconds of round 1 at UFC 263 last June.
But a win in the UFC cannot outweigh helping someone who is losing the battle against drug addiction.
When asked about the importance of making a difference versus getting a UFC title, McGee said:
“Man, nine years ago, maybe 10 years ago, I spoke with my first high school and I had a young kid come up to me struggling with addiction—that kid’s married, he worked on an Air-Force base, he had a little baby, and he keeps in touch with me. And as soon as that happened and he came forward and asked for help, I had already won[…]”
Sometimes, the mission is not always winning the gold. Of course, McGee wants to be the best fighter he can be, but taking a moment to inspire those around him appears to give him a purpose.

Former interim UFC welterweight champion, ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Carlos Condit is back to winning ways for the first time since May of 2015.
The veteran 36-year-old looked at his once gleaming best again tonight opposite The Ultimate Fighter victor, fellow veteran, Court McGee – on his way to a unanimous decision (30-27 x3) victory. Utilising both orthodox and southpaw on cue, Condit varied his strikes with kicks and punches, targeting the body and head with aplomb. Making his mark toward the close of the first round, the Albuquerque native scored what seems to be a nasty break of McGee’s nose with a counter right hook, resulting in the fight’s sole knockdown.
Continuning his trend of creative striking beyond the opening frame, Condit turned up the heat and volume in the final round to bring a halt to a dissapointing five-fight slide for the stunning eighteen year veteran.
Below, catch highlights from Condit’s return to the win column against McGee.
