Curtis Blaydes shows some empathy for Greg Hardy for accidentally blasting Allen Crowder with an illegal knee strike to the head that ended his promotional debut.

In the second round, referee Dan Miragliotta called it immediately after Crowder went down from the illegal knee to end the heavyweight showdown in the co-headliner. The UFC on ESPN+ 1 event down at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In the eyes of top contender, he thinks that the former NFL star was expecting his opponent to pop up and it be a legal shot. That wasn’t the case, though, and the result was what it was.

“I don’t think his past transgressions had anything to do with what happened out there in the cage,” Blaydes told the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast (H/T to MMAJunkie). “I think he was super excited, because that was me. When I was an amateur, that was me – just in the cage swinging wildly, hitting guys in the back of the head because you’re just so amped up. It takes time to get used to fighting.

People don’t get you have to be calm and at the same time hyper-aggressive, which is a hard thing to do,” Blaydes said. “He threw that knee and I think he was expecting his opponent to pop up, and when he didn’t, he couldn’t stop the knee.”

Joe Rogan dismisses any speculation or theory that the headliner of UFC Beijing between Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes was stopped early. The longtime UFC color commentator talked about this topic on a recent episode of his podcast.

Ngannou TKO’d Blaydes in 44 seconds in the first round of this heavyweight slugfest in the main event of UFC Beijing. The event went down Saturday (November 24, 2018) at Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China. UFC’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, aired the entire show. This marked a rematch between the two stars.

This was a rematch between the two stars. Coming into this fight, Blaydes had won four straight since losing his UFC debut to Ngannou in April 2016.

Following this fight, there were some people who thought that it was an early stoppage. However, Rogan disagrees with this theory and explained his take during a Fight Companion session.

“I don’t think it was an early stoppage,” Rogan said (H/T to MMANews). “It looks like it was almost an early stoppage, and then they let it go on, and then it was a decent stoppage. Didn’t it seem like at the beginning they were going to stop it [earlier]? The level of standup between them — I mean Curtis Blaydes is a good standup fighter but a really good wrestler. His wrestling stats are some of the best in the heavyweight division ever.”
