Dual-weight Bellator champion Patricio Freire has got into an online spat with UFC featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski as the pair hype up a possible cross-promotion fight.

The beef began with Freire responding to UFC president Dana White’s disregard for the talent possessed by Bellator. ‘Pitbull’ took to social media to bet White he would be able to take out his current 145lb and 155lb champions, he wrote.

“Hi @danawhite I’m the one who destroyed steroids machine @MikeChandlerMMA, whom you said deserves a talk, in 61 seconds. If you send some of your top fighters to @BellatorMMA I can do the same to them too. Let’s bet like you did with PRIDE.”

Volkanovski saw the proposal from ‘Pitbull’ and advised his boss to accept the bet and allow him to make some easy money.

Easiest money you will ever make @danawhite, let’s make it happen,” Volkanovski wrote.

Freire took aim at Volkanovski in a couple of tweet. ‘Pitbull’ threatened to knock out and hospitalize ‘The Great’ while also insinuating his rival should have lost the featherweight title to Max Holloway at UFC 251, he wrote.

“I’ll remember those words after I knock you out. Put your money where your mouth is @danawhite @ufc. Let’s go @ScottCoker @BellatorMMA” @alexvolkanovski

“just so u know U are fighting Pitbull the fighter not the rapper. I’m glad u recovered from ur cauliflower pussy. @danawhite it wud be my pleasure 2take ur $, I’ll even pay 4 Alex The Average’s hospital bills. It wud B an Honor to wear Max Holloway’s Belt. #LFG”

It wasn’t long before Patricky Freire jumped in and offered to fight Dan Hooker on the same card his brother fights Volkanovski.

I’ll put @ufc@danthehangmanin the hospital bed right beside @alexvolkanovski. Anyway Dan, it’s nice to see the pride of Australia…Crocodile Duck-me, Freire wrote.

Hooker seemed uninterested in fighting Patricky and joked about his would-be opponents height in his reply, he wrote.

“What are the rules for our fight? Are you going to stand on a chair or do I fight from my knees?”

UFC lightweight contender Dan Hooker has explained why he wants to fight former interim champion Tony Ferguson despite the fact he will need another trip to the hospital win or lose against ‘El Cucuy’.

Hooker is coming off back-to-back fight of the year contenders. Most recently he was on the wrong side of the judge’s scorecards after going five rounds with another former interim champion in Dustin Poirier. Both men went to war for 25 minutes and although he didn’t come out with the win Hooker did come away from the fight with tons of credit. Prior to that he edged Paul Felder in another 25-minute war at UFC Auckland. On that occasion he got the win in somewhat controversial circumstances with many believing ‘The Irish Dragon’ had done enough to earn the decision.

Since losing to Poirier and taking a trip to the hospital as a result of that fight Hooker has been pretty vocal about who he wants to face next. In an ideal world he’ll fight Tony Ferguson who is coming off a lopsided loss to Justin Gaethje. The UFC 249 main event loss snapped a 12-fight winning streak for Ferguson who was scheduled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title before the global pandemic scuppered those plans.

In an interview with John Hyon Ko of the South China Morning Post Hooker explained why he is so keen to fight Ferguson even though it most likely means another trip to A&E, he said.

“Sh*t. It’s going to be another war. I can see why fans want to see that fight, and why people want to see that fight — because I know that’s going to be a crazy fight. I know for a fact, win or loss I’m going on another trip to the hospital if I fight Tony Ferguson.”

“It’s all risk versus reward in this game. If I get past Tony Ferguson I’m right back where to where I would have been had I beaten Dustin Poirier. Like I’d be in exactly the same position,” Hooker said.

“So to get your career turned around in only one fight like that is just an opportunity that I couldn’t go past. But I’m not saying Tony Ferguson is an easy fight. Like that’s the toughest fight in the division as far as I’m concerned. But it’s not something I shy away from.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

“My whole approach needs to change. Being a nasty son of a gun that loves to scrap got me this far. But I’m missing a huge piece of the puzzle, the “championship mindset.” I experienced it against Poirier and I saw it last night with Volk. To everyone on this journey with me, I will make the necessary adjustments and be back stronger than ever. I have lost many times, but remain undefeated.”

Hooker’s last two bouts have won the Kiwi back-to-back ‘Fight of the Night’ bonuses, and he has earned the reputation as a tough, uncompromising fighter, who leaves everything in the cage. It will be interesting to see how Hooker develops his game between now and his next appearance inside the Octagon.

One thing is certain after winning back to ‘Fight of the Night’ bonuses, UFC fans will not want to miss the return of “The Hangman.”

Dan Hooker displayed his powers of recoveries as his bruises and cuts have all but healed a week after his war with Dustin Poirier.

Hooker and Poirier fought for 25 minutes in a back-and-forth Fight of the Year candidate at UFC Vegas 4 last weekend. Although Hooker had a promising start, Poirier eventually took over and did enough to earn the unanimous decision victory.

Both fighters received plenty of damage and were transported to the hospital soon after. However, it was Hooker who took more damage by far as he had a number of bruises and cuts on his face that required stitches.

Now back in New Zealand, Hooker seems to have nearly recovered completely a week after the fight as he shared a before and after image of his face on Saturday.

Hooker Not Looking To Stay Inactive

With his injuries healed up, “Hangman” is looking to get right back into action soon.

Once his 14-day quarantine period ends, he hopes to return to the gym and have his next fight sorted out.

He has already spoken of facing either Tony Ferguson or Charles Oliveira and either one of those fights would be potential barnburners.

If Dustin Poirier had his way, he would continue fighting without fans in attendance.

Poirier competed for the first time during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic last weekend at UFC Vegas 4 where he battled Dan Hooker in a back-and-forth war for 25 minutes.

In the end, “The Diamond” did enough to come out on top and get the unanimous decision verdict.

Poirier Prefers Empty Arena Fights

The contest was hailed by many as a Fight of the Year candidate which was made all the more brutal given that there were no fans in attendance, allowing viewers to hear every shot.

And for Poirier, he would like to keep fighting that way so he can have no distractions whatsoever.

“If I could choose, I would fight like that for the rest of my career,” Poirier told ESPN (via BJ Penn). “It felt like it was just me and Dan (Hooker).

“I was just very focused and I like that feeling. I can perform in that, because it’s true. It’s just us, no outside (interference), no distraction. It’s just fighting and that’s what I do best.”

For now, it looks like Poirier will get his wish as it doesn’t look like fans will be in attendance any time soon.

As for who he could fight next, he certainly has options.

The ideal fight for now is Tony Ferguson with the winner potentially getting the next title shot. However, Poirier could also wait for the winner of the expected title unification fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje in September — if it still happens — and hope that the latter comes out on top.

There are also the more lucrative but less likely options of facing Conor McGregor or Nate Diaz. For now, we can only wait.
