A pair of top 10 featherweight heavy hitters have been added to December’s pay-per-view.

Cole Shelton of BJPENN.com was first to report the news that No. 7 ranked Josh Emmett will be fighting No. 9 Dan Ige on December 11 at UFC 269. A source close to the situation who asked to remain anonymous confirmed the booking to LowKickMMA.

Both fighters would tease the booking as well on Thursday by posting on Twitter.

“”#UFC269 tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 am PST! You might want to grab some…,” Emmett wrote.

Ige would write “Big one” and then follow that tweet up with “pay-per-view.”

Emmett (16-2) has been out of action since his 2020 Fight of the Year contender against Shane Burgos in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN: Blaydes vs. Volkov. Emmett would tear his ACL just seconds into the first round, along with many other injures, including an MCL Sprain.

Emmett has had a very long road back to the octagon with a lot of setbacks with his knee recovery. Nevertheless, Emmett is riding a three-fight winning streak that included a knockout of Michael Johnson and a first-round knockout of Mirsad Bekti?.

Ige (15-4) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to ‘The Korean Zombie’ in his UFC second main event. Before his most recent loss, he knocked out highly-touted prospect Gavin Tucker in 22 seconds at UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad in March. ’50K’ went on a six-fight winning streak after losing his UFC debut back in 2018.

Dan Ige Vows To Come Back ‘Better & Stronger’ After Korean Zombie Loss

Dan Ige lost to ‘The Korean Zombie’, Chan Sung Jung by a unanimous decision at the weekend. After the loss, he vowed to fight on. There is good reason for his confidence too and the numbers back it up. Since signing for the UFC in 2018, he has amassed 7 wins to a mere 3 […]

Dan Ige lost to ‘The Korean Zombie’, Chan Sung Jung by a unanimous decision at the weekend. After the loss, he vowed to fight on. There is good reason for his confidence too and the numbers back it up. Since signing for the UFC in 2018, he has amassed 7 wins to a mere 3 losses in a tough division. However, this was his second loss in the past three fights which may be a cause for concern.

Nonetheless, speaking in the octagon straight after his loss, Ige was full of positives and seemed quietly optimistic. The Hawaiian said, “I came in at my absolute best. I have no excuses. The ‘Zombie’ is an absolute legend. I’ve been watching this guy since I graduated from high school. He’s still one of the best in the world – and that’s all I want. I want to test myself against the absolute best in the world. I truly believe I can still be a champion, I just have little small things to work on. I’ll be back better and stronger.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Perhaps the most interesting take from the interview was that Ige still believes he can be the featherweight champion. He also aimed to come back better and stronger. It’s no secret that the UFC can be a devastatingly hard place to earn a living, let alone make it to the very top. However, this mentality is exactly what Ige needs if he is to continue and make it there. For example, journeyman Michael Bisping had a fairly patchy run at one point of his career. After overcoming this, he became UFC Champion in his late 30s, so it can be done.

After this weekend’s events, Ige is placed 9th in the flyweight division with Chan Sung Jung sitting fourth on the roster. Although a top ten place is nothing to be scoffed at, it’s also a long flight to the top and can be a fragile position to fight in. Dan Ige was previously slated to fight Ryan Hall in his last bout before Hall dropped out with a hip injury. Depending on the result of Hall’s next fight, there is every possibility they could meet up at some point, with Ige desperate to fight on.

‘The Korean Zombie’ picked up an impressive win over Dan Ige after five rounds of fighting in the UFC Vegas 29 main event last night.

Jung’s win became even more impressive post-fight when his coach, Eddie Cha, revealed his fighter suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second round of the bout.

“Out of all of the UFC main events he’s had, this is the first one he’s had a decision,” Cha said on the ESPN+ post-fight show. “He’s kind of disappointed in it, but at the same time, he did pop his shoulder in and out.”

Last night, was not the first time ‘The Korean Zombie’ has dislocated his shoulder in a fight. In August 2013, Jung separated his shoulder when he challenged Jose Aldo for the featherweight title at UFC 163. The injury allowed ‘Scarface’ to close the show with a barrage of unanswered strikes. At UFC Vegas 29, Jung managed to work through the injury before his shoulder eventually popped back into place.

“(It’s the) same shoulder that he messed up in the Aldo fight,” Cha said. “He won’t ever say that kind of stuff, that’s why I kind of just put it in there. … In the second round when he went for the takedown and took his back, that’s when it kind of popped in and out a little bit. We were constantly telling him to raise his hands. Then, after the fight, he was like, ‘That’s why I couldn’t raise my hand.’ I was like, ‘Oh, OK.’” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

‘The Korean Zombie’ rallied through the injury to score a significant win over Ige. The judges unanimously awarded Jung the victory with scorecards of 48-47, 49-46, and 49-46.
