Referee Dan Miragliotta has no plans on officiating another Michael Page fight in the future.

Page got back to winning ways at Bellator Dublin on Friday when he knocked out Richard Kiely with a flying knee. However, “Venom” was taunting the Irishman throughout the fight and even after the win.

Miragliotta separated the two afterwards as a result. However, Page later told media that he got into a confrontation with the experienced referee, claiming he was called a “piece of sh*t.”

So what really happened? Miragliotta doesn’t deny that he cursed Page — however, it wasn’t to his face.

“I’m not going to say I didn’t say it, but I was wrong for saying it,” Miragliotta told MMA Fighting. “I shouldn’t have gotten that angry, but I did. I screwed up.”

Miragliotta claims he was trying to get Page to tone down the antics following the fight. However, Page didn’t take it too well:

“I go, ‘Bro, you are one of the most talented guys I’ve ever refereed,” Miragliotta explained. “I said, ‘Don’t ruin it with these antics. You beat the piss out of this guy, great job. You’re talented. You’re going places.’ He gave me a look like, ‘Screw you, f off.’

“… I was pissed, bro. I’m 56 years old. I’m a grown man. I’m older than him. I show respect to everybody. When someone says f*ck off like that to me with disrespect, I lost it. I never should have said what I said. And I know I was wrong. … Under my breath, I turned, and one of his coaches was right next to me, and I said, ‘What a f*cking piece of s*it.’ I knew I was wrong, and especially with it being his coach right there, and he said, ‘What did you say?’ And I said, ‘Man, I apologize. I never should have said that.’”

After everything that transpired, one thing is for sure — Miragliotta won’t be reffing any more Page fights:

“I’ll never do his fights again, because I can never really look at him and not have that animosity toward him, because I’m not going to let somebody tell me to f*ck off, and there’s nothing I can do, and I’m an official,” Miragliotta concluded. “It’s not good for me or the sport.”

This was backed by Michael Mazzulli, president of Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, who oversaw Bellator Dublin.

“When Mr. Page performs again, Dan will not be in the cage,” Mazzulli added.

What do you make of Miragliotta’s comments?

It’s not easy being an MMA referee.

When the cage door closes it must be a lonely place knowing that they are the only person standing between two fired-up fighters ready to go to war.

The two fighters safety is always a referee’s primary concern during a fight, but as you’ll see in this article, all it takes is for one angry, adrenaline-fueled combatant to disagree with a call they make in the cage and suddenly it’s their own safety that’s in jeopardy.

That’s led to some nasty incidents over the years, though don’t be fooled – just because referees aren’t wearing gloves and a mouthpiece doesn’t mean they can’t fight, and you might be surprised to see how many of them can more than hold their own when it’s time to restore order in the Octagon!

Atilla Kubilay

Atilla Kubilay

Atilla Kubilay became an instant villain in the sport after his appaling behavior both before and during his fight with Richard Bowkett at Cage Rage 11 in 2005.

As UK referee Grant Waterman brought the two fighters together in the center of the cage to receive their final instructions prior to the fight, Kubilay suddenly punched his opponent square in the face.

That should have been an instant disqualification, but he was extremely fortunate that Bowkett was still able to continue, and that officials decided that the fight could go ahead.

Despite being warned about his behavior, Kubilay hadn’t learned his lesson, and early in the first round he began landing illegal knees to the head of his downed opponent.

Waterman’s initial attempts to pull Kubilay off Bowkett failed, and so he had to apply a standing rear-naked choke to end the assault, bringing the thug to his knees as other officials rushed in to help him out.

Kubilay only fought one more time before his career came to an abrupt halt.

[VIDEO] Spend the Next Half Hour Watching Some of the Worst Referee F*ck Ups Ever

(It was later revealed that Mazzagatti had been planning to kill Fitch for years and was simply waiting for the right moment to pounce. Photo via Tracy Lee at Yahoo Sports.)

It’s been a pretty slow couple of days in the MMA world, Potato Nation. How should you know this? Because the news that’s being dropped off on our (imaginary) desks by our (imaginary) bosses is some bullshit about a fitting issue at WSoF 2 that resulted in Andrei Arlovski wearing those UFC gloves….

…There’s also some stuff about Georges St. Pierre possibly only having 2-3 fights left in him, which should come as shock to absolutely none of you. Personally, I’m just excited to see how dark Batroc can be in his head. Because Captain America is a bully, and Batroc hates bullies.

But lucky for you, CagePotato has been and always will be the place to come for ring girl galleries (with a picture viewer that is universally praised, I might add), lively, intellectually-driven debate, and aggressively stupid videos that horrendously attempt to pass off butt jokes as “MMA reporting.” Yeah, at least one of those things is true. And in lieu of anything truly newsworthy, we present you with this near half hour long clip looking back at some of the worst referee blunders in MMA history.

All the usual players are there: Mergs, Porn ‘stache Steve, Willow Tree-Winslow (seriously, the similarities are shocking), any PRIDE referee, and everything from Jerry Poe’s horrifyingly late Bellator 78 stoppage to Kim Couture’s temporary trip into the afterlife are revisited. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but you’ll mostly just get pissed off. Enjoy?

Video after the jump.

As if the video wasn’t great enough on its own, the segue music choices are downright brilliant. “It’s Too Late” by Carole King is Mazzagatti’s “Dust in the Wind.”
