The pre-fight press conference is the last chance for the fighters to hype their fight, and is often the scene of some fight-week trash talk, although in the case of Silva and Belfort, they’ve generally been quiet and deferential to each other. We’ll see if that changes on Wednesday.

The UFC 126 pre-fight press conference begins at 4 PM ET and the video is below.

Watching the most recent edition of Dana White’s video blog series, one thing becomes abundantly clear: the dude is fucking rich.

When he isn’t sitting courtside in L.A. at the end of the Celtics bench with his kids during an NBA game, The Baldfather is throwing around cash like it’s confetti on things like souping up his SUVs with Corvette engines.

Ah, to be a multi-millionaire…

I still pick up change when I find it on the street.

Either Dana White made it his New Year’s resolution this year to not attack rival promotions or he saw the figures from Saturday night’s Strikeforce event — either way, he actually compliments Scott Coker and co. and their planned heavyweight grand prix in this interview with Fighters.com.

The UFC president has remained conspicuously silent on the subject and it was somewhat surprising that neither Kevin Iole or Ariel Helwani were the first to report The Baldfather’s feelings about Strikeforce’s eight-man tournament.

Here’s what he had to say:

"No, [I do] not [feel that the grand prix is competition for the UFC] at all. You know how I feel about Strikeforce and the smaller leagues. Listen, putting on a heavyweight tournament that’s going to draw some interest for those guys and then they end up with someone at the end who is perceived as one of the top guys  — I love that shit… love it. I honestly havent thought about it all, but good for them."

The UFC overtaking boxing as the No. 1 pay-per-view draw in sports over the last few years has led to a number of boxing promoters taking shots at the UFC. But the most famous promoter in boxing thinks thinks it’s time to learn from the UFC.

In a live chat with FanHouse readers, Don King said that UFC has been smart about putting good fights on basic cable to attract fans who will become pay-per-view customers while boxing has declined on basic cable and completely disappeared from over-the-air television.

“Unfortunately the television networks are not broadcasting the fighters and that has been a major disappointment,” King said. “Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta have done a great job with the UFC and people like what they do.”

Part of what made the UFC successful when it first launched in 1993 was the one-night tournament format.

But that doesn’t mean UFC president Dana White has ever seriously thought about bringing that concept back, even for one event.

“My philosophy on that was, this many people want to see a crazy freak show, that many people want to see a real sport,” White said at a question-and-answer session prior to the Fight for the Troops 2 weigh-ins last week. “We believe that’s why the thing has grown as fast as it has and become as big as it has, because people want to see a real sport. So, no.

“Plus, we couldn’t do that anymore; you could never do a one-night tournament. And to be honest with you, the one-night tournament thing never worked; it didn’t make sense.”

FORT HOOD, Texas – UFC president Dana White on Friday told a small group of troops at the Fort Hood military post in Killeen, Texas, that a long-discussed superfight could come to fruition this year.

Speaking at a question-and-answer session that was closed to the public and attended only by enlisted military personnel, White said a fight between welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and middleweight champion Anderson Silva might take place in 2011.

Both fighters’ dominance in their respective divisions would lead to the matchup, though White cautioned that both need to win their upcoming title defenses.
