UFC CEO Dana White reveals his viral walkout on comedian Howie Mandel's podcast was staged

UFC CEO Dana White is coming clean about his walkout on Howie Mandel’s podcast.

In the days leading up to UFC 298 in February, White appeared on a slew of podcasts to promote the event. Certainly nothing out of the ordinary, but one particular appearance made headlines.

Sitting down with actor and comedian Howie Mandel, White declared, “I am so f*cking tired of doing podcasts” before taking off his headset, getting up, and walking out mere seconds into the interview. Mandel and others in the studio sat in stunned silence.

Dana White

As it turns out, the whole thing was staged as White and Mandel had already met earlier that same day and concocted the scheme.

“So what happened was I did the Sage Steele podcast when she called me Joe Rogan,” White said during an appearance on the Flagrant podcast. “First of all, Sage Steele and I are good friends, I love Sage. She asked me to be her first guest on the podcast, so I go out there. Now, the studio is owned by Howie Mandel where these podcasts take place. She was signed to Bill Maher’s podcast company and they’re all done there in Howie Mandel’s studio.

“So we get done with the podcast and Howie Mandel walks in and he’s like, ‘100 podcasts a week happen here, I’ve never watched any of them. I watched the whole podcast, love who you are, what you stand for,’ and all this stuff. We hit it off, started talking. Great dude.

“So he’s like, ‘Let me show you around the studio.’ He’s involved in all kinds of shit. He owns social media companies and all this other stuff. Howie Mandel owns a lot of shit that people don’t realize. Smart guy, great guy. So we’re walking through and stuff and he goes, ‘Would you do me a favor?’ I said, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ He’s like, ‘Would you come in and get up and walk off my podcast?’ I go, ‘I would be f*cking honored to walk off your podcast because I’m so f*cking sick of doing podcasts, it’s not funny.’

“We go in there and do it, right? He’s like, ‘Take this to the grave.’ I said, ‘Done, I’ll take it to the grave.”

Howie Mandel

Why did Dana white spill the tea?

So why didn’t Dana White honor his agreement to take it to the grave? According to the man himself, as he was making another public appearance, a group of loyal UFC fans began an anti-Mandel chant. That’s when he decided to come clean and prevent any unwanted backlash being directed at Mandel over the pre-planned incident.

“I go do this thing with the Nelk Boys, we’re doing this ‘Monkeybomb’ f*cking tour, the whole f*cking crowd starts chanting, ‘F*ck Howie Mandel!’” White said. “I go, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, timeout, I can’t do this.’

“Howie Mandel’s the f*cking greatest dude ever. Sorry, Howie. It’s just when I go out and people just start f*cking sh*tting on the guy — and I’m sure he could give a flying f*ck — I couldn’t do it. So Howie Mandel’s f*cking awesome.”

Dana White rips Charles Oliveira for suffering $2 millon headbutt ahead of Islam Makhachev rematch

In new, previously unseen footage, UFC CEO, Dana White voiced his dismay at former lightweight champion, Charles Olvieira’s decision to spar without headgear just weeks from his scheduled title rematch with Islam Makhachev last October – with matchmaker, Sean Shelby alluding to a $2,000,000 payday missed out on as a result for the Brazilian.

Oliveira, the current number two ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined since he featured on the main card of UFC 300 back in April, suffering a controversial split decision defeat to surging contender, Arman Tsarukyan in the pair’s title-eliminator.

Prior to that loss, Oliveira was slated to headline UFC 294 late last year in Abu Dhabi, tackling the above-mentioned, Makhachev in a title fight rematch.

However, just days from the pairing, Sao Paulo star, Oliveira was forced to withdraw from the clash, suffering a sizeable laceration over his right eyebrow – with the promotion drafting Alexander Volkanovski in on short-notice to take on Makhachev in his own rematch.

And in previously unseen footage as part of the Fight Inc. ‘Inside the UFC’ series – promotional boss, White can be seen hitting out at Oliveira for sparring without headgear before his flight to the Middle East – with the previously mentioned, Shelby pointing to his apparent missed payday.

“How about this – how about if they [Charles Oliveira’s team] call us and let us f*cking fix it and tell them what to do,” Dana White said. “Yeah, that’s f*cking – that is a nasty – what were they doing? Wrestling?”

“Sparring with no headgear, the week before he (Charles Oliveira) leaves for the fight [with Islam Makhachev] – no, the day, he’s supposed to leave [for Abu Dhabi] today,” Dana White continued. “The night before. He’s going [training] the night before, sparring with no f*cking headgear. That cost them big money.”

UFC CEO Dana White absolutely shreds Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight in latest tirade: 'It's ridiculous'

If you didn’t already know Dana White’s opinion on the recently postponed Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match, we’ve got you covered.

It’s no secret that White and ‘The Problem Child’ do not get along. For years, Paul has poked and prodded at the UFC CEO, calling him out for lowballing his fighters and keeping them locked down under restrictive contracts. During a recent appearance on the FLAGRANT podcast with Andrew Schulz, White decided to tear into the YouTuber star and his upcoming clash with the former world heavyweight champion.

“Pretty much everybody in the room and the other room wants to see Jake Paul get knocked out,” White said. “When this fight happens, Tyson will be 58 f*cking years old. Under no circumstances should an almost 60-year-old man be fighting a 27-year-old guy, even if it’s Mike Tyson. It’s f*cking ridiculous.

When [Paul] actually fought somebody who is a boxer, who had the same type of record he has, and who’s his age and size, he f*cking lost”

Paul vs. Tyson

Dana White is dealing with his own fight crisis

Originally, Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson was scheduled to go down on July 20. Unfortunately, the bout has since been postponed after ‘Kid Dynamite’ suffered an ulcer flare-up during a cross-country flight out of Miami last month.

Both Paul and Tyson remain adamant that their clash — scheduled to air live on Netflix at no additional charge for active subscribers around the world — will proceed with a new date being announced in the near future.

Paul Tyson announcement

Meanwhile, Dana White is dealing with his own drama after a press conference in Dublin to kick off promotional festivities for Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return was canceled hours before the scheduled start time. The news immediately generated rumors suggesting that McGregor’s quote-unquote “greatest comeback in combat sports history” was no longer part of UFC 303 on June 29.

No official announcement has been made, but there have been conflicting reports, some claiming that the UFC is confident the fight will happen with others stating that the promotion is putting out “feelers” to see who might be interested in filling in for the Irish megastar.

Dana White on McGregor vs. Chandler

Only time will tell on these two massive fights, but as it stands, things are looking much more optimistic on Jake Paul’s side.

Dana White shreds 'Lunatic' judge who scored Strickland vs. Costa a split decision at UFC 302

Dana White went scorched earth on MMA judge Dave Tirelli following a couple of highly questionable scorecards on Saturday night.

Luckily, there were no blatant robberies in The Garden State as the promotion served up its latest pay-per-view event, UFC 302. However, there was some pretty egregious scoring and it all seemed to come from one man. Tirelli first drew the ire of the broadcast team and fight fans watching at home when he scored an early bout between Andre Lima and Mitch Raposo in favor of the latter.

The two other judges, Adrian Castro and Eric Colon, both scored the contest 30-27 in favor of Lima. Fans on the global scoring app Verdict agreed with Castro and Colon considering Lima outstruck Raposo in all three rounds.

Dana White

Unfortunately, Tirelli was far from done. In the co-main event of the evening, Sean Strickland delivered another dominant performance, putting Paulo Costa on his back foot for pretty much the entirety of their 25-minute affair and outstriking ‘The Eraser’ in four of the five rounds.

Chris Lee and Sal D’Amato favored Strickland on their scorecards, giving him a very reasonable 50-45 and 49-46. Tirelli, on the other hand, inexplicably scored it 49-46 in favor of Costa.

Dana White

Fans on Verdict gave Strickland every round.

Dana White believes dave tirelli should be kicked ‘back down to the minor leagues’

Asked about the scoring gaffes during the post-fight press conference, Dana White didn’t hold back in his assessment of Dave Tirelli’s judging.

“That wasn’t weird, it was f*cking nuts is what it was,” White said reacting to Tirelli’s scorecard in the Strickland vs. Costa fight. “It’s insane. That guy should never [judge] another big fight again. They should kick him back down to the minor leagues and let him work on his judging. It’s unbelievable.”

“How anybody who isn’t an absolute f*cking lunatic could call that fight a split decision. I don’t even know what to say about that. It’s insane. That guy shouldn’t be judging big fights” (h/t MMA Fighting).

As for the fight itself, White was hoping for something a bit more exciting but commended Strickland’s ability to shut down Costa throughout the fight.

“It’s not the fight I expected,” White said of the matchup. “Every time you see Paulo Costa in a fight, it’s a war. He usually goes to war, but you could tell tonight, he couldn’t get off. Brilliant kicking the leg the way he did. Strickland is tough as hell. He was eating those leg kicks all night. I’m wondering how he’s walking, because I haven’t heard anything but [Costa] did some big damage to that front leg.

“I thought [Strickland] fought a beautiful, perfect fight. He’s a very awkward guy to fight and how he throws those teep kicks and his hands are so good, he’s very elusive and [has] a beautiful jab, and he basically picked Costa apart and shut him down.”

Booking former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson to call time on his professional mixed martial arts career with a record-setting eighth consecutive loss at UFC Abu Dhabi in August – promotional CEO, Dana White would urge the Oxnard veteran to retire.

Ferguson, a former interim lightweight titleholder and Ultimate Fighter winner, is slated to make his return to the Octagon at the beginning of August, featuring in a main card opener at UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi – joining fellow veteran Californian, Nick Diaz in returning at the event

Tony Ferguson

Riding a seven-fight defeat streak – joined only by former two-weight titleholder, B.J. Penn, Ferguson has been sidelined since he featured at UFC 296 back in December, dropping a unanimous decision loss against polarizing Liverpool contender, Paddy Pimblett.

However, booking his return at UFC Abu Dhabi later this summer despite multiple calls from White for him to retire from the sport since his defeat late last year, Ferguson takes on fellow veteran, Michael Chiesa in a rescheduled pairing – with his fellow TUF winner hoping to snap his own three-fight skid.

And despite claiming he would continue fighting “until the wheels fell off” recently, Ferguson, who returns to the welterweight limit, has been urged to definitely call time on his career by White if he sets an unwanted record with the most consecutive losses in Octagon history.

“Yeah, I would hope so – yeah, I would like to see him (Tony Ferguson) retire,” Dana White told assembled media following UFC 302 overnight

Without a victory since 2019, Ferguson’s most recent win came in the form of a second round doctor’s stoppage TKO win over Hall of Fame inductee, Donald Cerrone – which incidentally came as his record-setting twelfth straight triumph at the lightweight limit.

UFC CEO, Dana White appears to have no reservations regarding footage of Conor McGregor partying into the early hours in his Dublin pub just four weeks from his return against Michael Chandler at welterweight, claiming the ex-champion isn’t “dumb” when it comes to preperation.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the promotion, is set to snap an-almost three year hiatus from he Octagon at UFC 303 at the end of this month during International Fight Week, taking on Chandler in the pair’s long-anticipated grudge match.

Sidelined since UFC 264, McGregor suffered a fractured left tibia and fibula in an opening round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat to common-foe, Dustin Poirier – who headlined UFC 302 overnight in a D’Arce choke submission loss to undisputed gold holder, Islam Makhachev

However, just weeks out from his return in Las Vegas later this month, McGregor has posted several video on his official social media of him partying at his Black Forge Inn public house in Walkinstown – as recently as this weekend.

Dana White unconcerned for Conor McGregor ahead of UFC 303

And amid concerns over the Dubliner’s preparation for his UFC 303 comeback – which compatriot Caolan Loughran has claimed is showing a level of disrespect for the sport of mixed martial arts, White, who is set to meet with the former for tomorrow’s press conference in the Irish capital, appears less than concerned.

“Well, again – you and I, here we are, we were talking about Jon Jones – Jon Jones was doing a lot of that stuff, too, bad in the day,” Dana White told assembled media at the UFC 302 press conference when asked for his opinion on footage of Conor McGregor partying in Dublin. “I don’t know what’s real on the internet and what’s not real on the internet.”

“I don’t know – timing-wise, in one of them [videos] he (Conor McGregor) has a beard and in another one, he doesn’t have a beard,” White continued. “I have no idea, I don’t know if any of that is true, or whatever. You know, Conor’s not a dumb guy. You know, this obviously a big fight for him – he’s calling it the biggest comeback in the history of sports, so we’ll see what happens. I’ll actually be with him tomorrow, so – I’m flying there (Dublin) right now.”
