Dana White dubs Max Holloway 'the greatest featherweight of all time' ahead of BMF title fight at UFC 300

Featherweight mainstay Max Holloway will look to add another title to his collection when he battles lightweight slugger Justin Gaethje for the promotion’s officially unofficial bragging rights belt, the BMF title, this Saturday night (April 13) in Sin City.

Emanating from the familiar confines of T-Mobile Arena, UFC 300 boasts a stacked lineup featuring 13 fights and 12 current or former champions. In “the people’s main event,” Holloway will move up from 145 to 155 to try and take Gaethje’s title as the UFC’s baddest motherf*cker and potentially put himself in line for a lightweight championship opportunity.

Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway at UFC 300

Appearing on a recent episode of First Take with Stephen A. Smith, UFC CEO Dana White dubbed Holloway the “greatest featherweight of all time” while hyping up his clash with Gaethje.

“Max Holloway, always a big fan favorite,” White said. “Probably the greatest featherweight of all time, going up against Gaethje, who is a human highlight reel” (h/t MMA Mania).

Dana White gives a brief history of the bMF title ahead of Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje

UFC 300 will feature the third time that the BMF belt has been up for grabs since its inception in 2019. The belt was first introduced during a main event clash between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. ‘Gamebred’ walked away with the title before embarking on a four-fight losing streak that would see him exit the promotion, having not once defended the belt.

Jorge Masvidal wins BMF title

In July, Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier squared off at UFC 291 to crown a new BMF titleholder. ‘The Highlight’ scorched Poirier with a perfectly timed head-kick KO in the second round.

“The idea of the ‘BMF’ was built right here in this room,” White told Smith from his Las Vegas office. “There’s always these fights that the fans love, whether it’s a Masvidal vs. Diaz, you know, those types of fights — Gaethje and Holloway. We were sitting in here one day and thought about building this ‘BMF’ title and who’s better fit for this thing than Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway? We thought about it in here. I told the guys, ‘Tell me if I’m crazy, but what do you think of this idea?’ They loved it, the fans love it, and here we go.”

Jake Paul set to beat Dana White to Las Vegas Sphere with Katie Taylor - Amanda Serrano rematch

Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn will reportedly successfully beat Dana White in the race to hold the first-ever live sports event at the fabled Las Vegas Sphere. Paul and Hearn will allegedly co-promote a boxing card headlined by the rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, with a targeted date in June.

Las Vegas Sphere set to host UFC 306 on Mexican Indepedence Day in September

The Las Vegas Sphere is a state-of-the-art venue with the capacity to seat 20,000. What makes it special though, is the impressive array of LED monitors that wrap around the entire venue, forming a sphere. The monitors can be set to play any number of exciting and trippy visuals, and the Las Vegas Sphere is nowadays commonly thought to be one of the world’s most unique locations to host any show or event.

Previously, it was thought that White would attain this record of bringing the world’s first live sporting event to the Sphere, with his September 14th Mexican Independence Day card. However, according to Irish news outlet RTE, Paul and Hearn will now swoop in and take the cake. Per RTE, an official announcement is reportedly projected to be announced in only a few days.

Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn Look to Make History at the Las Vegas Sphere

Representing Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Taylor looks to go 2-0 against Serrano. Their first match took place in April of 2022, and a hard-fought battle led to a split decision that saw Taylor go home victorious. On the other side of the ring will stand Serrano, representing Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. If everything goes according to the reports, Paul and Hearn will successfully become the first to promote any live-sporting event at the Las Vegas Sphere, which would surely make Dana White sick to his stomach.

The first bout between Taylor and Serrano was held at Madison Square Garden and has since become known as the biggest fight in Women’s boxing history. Most notably, both fighters have also been undefeated in all of their recent outings, with Taylor having defended her title three more times and Serrano defeating all four of her last opponents.

Do you think a live sporting event held at the Las Vegas Sphere will hold up to expectations, and do you think it’s a big deal if Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn beat Dana White to the record?

Dana White teases return for UFC star Conor McGregor in cryptic social media post coming soon

Amid continued links to a massive June return to the Octagon later this summer, former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion, Conor McGregor may be line for just that – with UFC CEO, Dana White teasing a return for the Dubliner, with a cryptic post on his social media.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight titleholder under the banner of the promotion, has been continually linked with a spectacular return to fighting this summer in a grudge match against Michael Chandler, having served alongside the veteran as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 31 last year.

And calling his shot for a feature on UFC 302 at the end of June during International Fight Week, McGregor offered to fight Chandler over the course of just three rounds rather than five – as he prepares for his first outing in three years.

Dana White teases Conor McGregor

Sidelined since 2021, Conor McGregor has yet to fight since he fractured his left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to common-foe, Dustin Poirier in the pair’s trilogy rubber match at UFC 264.

Conor McGregor warned leg injury will haunt him psychologically in UFC return this summer

And on social media this Friday morning, UFC boss, White appeared to hint at an imminent announcement of a return to the Octagon for ex-champion, Conor McGregor – posting footage of him walking backstage ahead of his 2018 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, paired with the caption, ‘Coming Soon’.

Earlier this week to boot, ahead of his own return at UFC 300 next weekend, former lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira and his team noted their collective interest in fighting the above-mentioned, McGregor in the immediate future – should they beat Arman Tsarukyan, and even before a rematch with champion, Islam Makhachev.

“It would be great to fight (Conor) McGregor,” Charles Oliveira’s head coach, Diego Lima said. “Professionally speaking, [fighting McGregor[ would be incredible. If we had the opportunity to fight McGregor at welterweight after this fight [with Arman Tsarukyan], we would fight McGregor. But how abou the belt. OK, we’ll fight the belt after that, God willing. But we know that with McGregor, the creature has become bigger than the creator.”

Georges St-Pierre reveals Dana White nixed him fighting Oscar De La Hoya he hates him

Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre, reveals he nearly boxed Oscar De La Hoya a few years ago.

St-Pierre last competed in 2017 after he became the middleweight champion with a submission win over Michael Bisping. Due to health reasons, he retired, but there were talks of him coming out of retirement to face Khabib Nurmagomedov but that didn’t happen.

Along with that, Georges St-Pierre says he had agreed to box Oscar De La Hoya but UFC CEO Dana White shut the fight down.

“It did not happen because, Dana White told me, Dana White hates Oscar De La Hoya. My contract, after you retire, you still have a few years, depending on the contract, my contract the way it was made, I still had ties with the UFC. I still had tied with UFC, when I asked Dana for permission he was like ‘F that guy’. That’s why, and then he called me after, he said he wanted me to fight Khabib, but Khabib already retired and I already retired,” St-Pierre said on the Pound 4 Pound podcast.

It is interesting that St-Pierre was even in talks to box Oscar De La Hoya as the Canadian has no experience with boxing. But, had the fight happen, it would have been a highly-anticipated bout and one many fans would have been excited for.

Georges St-Pierre claims Dana White originally thought Oscar De La Hoya would destroy him

This isn’t the first time Georges St-Pierre talked about a potential matchup with Oscar De La Hoya.

However, back in 2021, St-Pierre says originally White shut it down because he thought he would get destroyed by the boxer.

Dana White confirms plans to announce UFC 300 main event during UFC 298 press conference

“At first he says to me that the reason why he did not want it is because he thought that Oscar would basically destroy me in a boxing match. And I had some good arguments — I told him that I believe Oscar has more mileage than I do, he’s no longer in his prime, I stayed busy the whole time, I’m still in great shape, I’m going to be very well prepared and I’m taking this fight very seriously.”

“If I do it, because it’s my name — my image is attached to it — I will do it 100 percent. And I told Dana, I said, ‘If there’s one MMA fighter that go to boxing and look good in this situation, it would be me,’” St-Pierre said to The MMA Hour back in 2021.

Ultimately, St-Pierre is now fine in retirement and it looks like he won’t fight again.

Dana White promises his kids they will never see their 'dumb, drunk parents slapping each other' ever again

Dana White came under fire in early 2023 after he was caught on camera slapping his wife during an altercation at a Cabo San Lucas nightclub.

TMZ first released footage of the infamous incident which occurred during a New Year’s Eve party as 2022 came to an end and 2023 began. The short video of White assaulting his wife of 30+ years — Anne White — immediately sparked outrage among fighters and fans with many of them calling for him to be released from the promotion.

However, White faced little consequence for his actions as the UFC’s parent company, Endeavor, sought to sweep the whole thing under the rug as quickly as possible.

Looking back on the incident during an appearance on former ESPN anchor Sage Steele’s podcast, Dana White spoke about the impact that the video had on his children and how that in and of itself, was the biggest form of punishment he could endure.

“If you’re a racist, your kids know you’re a racist,” White told former ESPN anchor Sage Steele on her podcast. “If you do things like that to your wife, your kids know. The list goes on and on, nobody knows you better than your kids do. They lived it. They live in the house for 18 to 20 years and they see what they see. My kids know who I am. My kids know what I’m about. That’s the only f*cking thing that matters to me. When that situation happened, we had to deal with our kids. F*cking media, you think I give a sh*t what they f*cking think? They can all kiss my ass.

“My kids were the focus and the priority during that situation. Dana, my oldest, didn’t talk to us for like four days. We got through it with them, but at the end of the day, your kids know who you are.”

“That was the most important part of it,” White continued. “That was the only thing that mattered to me and my wife. Nobody wants to see their dumb, drunk parents slapping each other on TMZ, you know what I mean? It is what it is. It was bad, but it happened and it needed to be dealt with. When I was going out and talking about it publicly and you’ve got the media asking you about apologies, we apologized. We apologized to the people that we needed to apologize to — to our kids. That’s what we did” (h/t MMA Mania).

Zero Tolerance is a thing of the past in Dana White’s UFC

Once upon a time, the UFC used to have a zero-tolerance policy toward domestic violence with Thiago Silva and Will Chope being prime examples. White was even quoted as saying, “You don’t bounce back from putting your hands on a woman” in 2014 shortly after Silva’s release for allegedly threatening his ex-wife and her boyfriend.

Unfortunately, the days of there being zero tolerance for anything in the UFC are seemingly long gone.

“I made some decisions in my life that I could guarantee that would never happen again,” White said. “I made some decisions in my life and things I needed to fix with myself to make sure that never happens again. That will never happen again, no matter what. Me and my wife have known each other since eighth grade, we’ve been friends since eighth grade and we’ve been married for almost 30 years.

“It’s weird and I think about it all the time, that that situation would play out on New Year’s Eve, basically on stage, in front of however many people all with phones aimed right at me, and boom, here we are. It was crystal clear how and why it happened. I had to take a look at myself and say we need to fix this and this can never happen again.”
