Darren Till has a lot to think about as he plots his return to the Octagon. One of them might be considering a jump up in weight.

Till suffered the second-straight defeat of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career in March when he was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal. Prior to that, Till was submitted by Tyron Woodley in their 170-pound title fight in September. Till has had issues making weight in the 170-pound weight division in the past, and there has been chatter about him possibly moving up to 185.

Speaking on Fighters Only recently, Till admitted a jump up to middleweight is something he might have to consider. He then proceeded to praise the division’s elite; such as champions Robert Whittaker, Israel Adesanya, and multi-time title challenger Yoel Romero (via MMA Junkie):

“I do have to think about them things,” Till said. “I wouldn’t be small at 185. I’d be right in the mix in there with them guys. The great guy, the interim champ Israel (Adesanya) is a great fighter. The champ (Robert Whittaker) is a good fighter. There’s a few beasts. The one guy who is a scary guy is Yoel (Romero).”

Standing at six feet tall, and sporting a big frame, Till is a natural fit at middleweight. His striking ability will certainly bring interesting stylistic matchups against the likes of Whittaker and Adesanya. However, he’ll also have to deal with grapplers such as Romero, Jacare Souza, and Jack Hermansson.

Do you think Till should move up to middleweight for his next fight? Who should he face in his divisional debut?

Darren Till has shared details on the incident that landed him in jail a few months ago.

The title contender shared his side of the story, in which he’s accused of stealing a taxi and trashing a hotel, while doing a recent interview with MMA Junkie:

“Truthfully and honestly, we went on a lad’s birthday and we booked it for the while. We were gone for two days and we were out there having a good time. It’s a nice place. Then we were in the hotel, and there were these other guys in the room. And we weren’t having trouble, but just a little bother broke out – not fights and whatnot.

Obviously, the hotel didn’t get trashed. There was no criminal damage. But things got thrown and whatever. I won’t name no names, but a taxi was not stolen – well, it was stolen and drove around the block a few times. I went (to) the scene. I was somewhere else. I had left the hotel, as well.

Then when the police were rounding everyone up, they (saw) me. Straight away, the police was like, ‘Darren Till.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah,’ and I knew what was going on. I was like, ‘It’s all going to fall on me.’

Till was arrested by officers in Tenerife back in April. The island is the largest in the Canary Islands chain off the northwest coast of Africa. Till was arrested alongside four other people for allegedly trashing a hotel. The group then sped off in a taxi while the cab’s driver loaded their luggage into the trunk, according to the police report.

The group was kicked out of one hotel for breaking furniture and emptying out fire extinguishers. They later attempted to get another hotel room but were turned down. As a result, Till had been fined more than £700 by a Spanish court.

Till, along with the other men, admitted wrongdoing as part of a plea deal. They were also ordered to pay more than £8,500 in compensation to the hotel they vandalized.

Darren Till wants to fight before 2019 comes to an end. The Englishman hasn’t competed since being knocked out by Jorge Masvidal earlier this year.

While being interviewed by Fighters Only recently, Till confirmed he plans on fighting again before the end of 2019 (via MMA Junkie):

“Yeah definitely – 1 million percent,” Till said “I’m not saying I’m back, but I’m just in my happy place. I feel like the Darren Till before he was fighting in Rotterdam. I got back from Brazil and I was just in this world of going to the gym, training really hard.”

Till believes had he defeated Masvidal earlier this year in London he could’ve been fighting Kamaru Usman for the 170-pound title. However, Masvidal connected with a flush shot in the second round that rendered him unconscious:

“Maybe my hand was 50 percent in,” Till said. “If I beat Masvidal, it would have been me vs. Usman. But now it’s (Ben) Askren-Masvidal. I think if Askren wins, he probably might get a shot.”

While Till isn’t exactly sure what’ will be next for him, he knows one thing for sure – he wants a second crack at “Gamebred”:

“Masvidal, he’s a respectful guy,” Till said. “He’d come to me after the fight and I was – not crying, but I had my head down and someone tapped me on my shoulder and it was Masvidal, and he shook my hand. He was like, ‘You nearly had me in the first (round).’ I want that (expletive) rematch. I want that rematch.”

Do you think Till will get his opportunity to rematch Masvidal?
