The final fight in the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder trilogy was such a success, even Dana White was forced to give them a tip of the cap.

Fury and Wilder met for the third and presumably last time on Saturday night. ‘The Gypsy King’ was able to defend his WBC and The Ring titles with an 11th-round knockout. The fight was a back-and-forth affair that saw both men get dropped. It’s already being proclaimed by some as the greatest heavyweight title fight in the history of boxing.

Of course, White has had more than his fair share of grievances about the state of boxing and the promoters who run it. However, even he was forced to give credit where credit is due following the epic match (h/t MMA Junkie).

“I thought it was awesome,” White told reporters at the UFC Apex following Tuesday’s Contender Series event. “Going into it, my thought process was, ‘For what? Why?’ (Joshua) just got beat, and why do that? You know why? Because boxing needed that fight. It was an incredible heavyweight fight. I thought both guys fought their asses off and for Fury to come in 277 pounds and fight the way that he fought, get knocked down, get back up, keep fighting – it’s just exactly what boxing needed, so (I’m) glad it happened. Congratulations to both of them, everybody involved and the sport of boxing.”

White himself has dabbled with the idea of going into the boxing business, even going so far as to trademark ‘Zuffa Boxing’. He often spoke about entering the boxing world and fixing the “broken model” that he claimed plagued the sport. Unfortunately, we never got a chance to see what he would do with his own promotion, as he effectively put a halt in his plans in late 2020.

Are you surprised to see Dana White giving boxing credit? Will we ever see him run his own boxing promotion?

Anthony Joshua Predicts Tyson Fury Will Win Deontay Wilder Rematch

Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is patiently waiting in the wings for his next fight. He’ll be hoping to face the winner of the eagerly anticipated rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury. The first bout between the pair ended in a controversial draw. They’ll now look to settle the score when they meet on Feb 22 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

‘AJ’ had a tough 2019, losing then regaining his three titles against Mexican Andy Ruiz. Now back on top in 2020, he continues to chase an undisputed fight with whoever holds the WBC belt, currently that is the American Wilder. However, the puncher from Watford isn’t convinced that will remain the case after Feb 22. Speaking to Sky Sports he offered his opinion on the fight and predicted a new champion will be crowned when the two fighters square off for a second time, he said.

“I believe that Fury
(Tyson) will win, because Wilder has shown you can’t blink for a second with him
because it takes one punch against Ortiz (Luis). But it shows that a good boxer
who’s young and fresh and can follow a game plan can be victorious for seven to
X amount of rounds. Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit and Ortiz got hit
with a big punch. But Fury is quite evasive, Fury’s quite bigger, Fury boxers
back and flicks his jab, so he is quite difficult to hit. Fury fought Wilder
the first time after a long layoff. I think Fury has taken some relatively soft
touch fights, got his confidence back and going into the new year I think as a
new man, new team, new mindset over his mental health issues. So, he must feel
something in him that is new, and he wants to be the new heavyweight champion
of the world. So, I think Fury has a good chance of beating Wilder, providing
he follows his game plan for the 12 rounds.”

Do you agree with Anthony Joshua’s assessment of how Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury II will play out?

American heavyweight Deontay Wilder will again put his WBC title on the line against Lineal champion Tyson Fury. The pair will also compete for the Ring Magazine belt on Feb 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’ll be a rematch of their 2018 fight of the year contender, which ended in a controversial draw. ‘The Gypsy King’ boxed beautifully for much of the fight but was floored twice by ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in the ninth and twelfth rounds. The second knockdown was heavier than most and the British heavyweight appeared to be out cold. However, in one of the most jaw dropping moments of the decade, Fury rose to his feet and won the rest of the round. Fans and experts alike are now eagerly anticipating the rematch next month. And for many it’s very much a 50:50 fight, but what do that bookmakers think of it?

Despite being the defending champion and betting favourite last time these two men fought, Wilder enters this rematch an underdog. This is a first in the Americans career and is likely due to the general consensus that he was lucky to get a draw in 2018. He also struggled for long periods in his last fight against Luis Ortiz, before scoring a highlight reel seventh round knockout. Right now, you can get odds of -105 on Wilder retaining his title in this upcoming boxing match.

In comparison you’ll find the popular Englishman at odds of –125 to claim the win. Although he suffered two knockdowns, one being particularly heavy, Fury clearly did enough to convince the bookmakers of his credentials. Since he fought Wilder to a draw, Fury has racked up another two wins albeit against lower level opposition in Otto Wallin and Tom Schwarz.

If your planning to bet on this mega-fight, there seems to be two schools of thought about where to place your money if you enjoy betting on boxing online. The first, will be a Deontay Wilder knockout win, in reality it’s the only way he can win. He is one of the most devastating knockout artists in boxing history, scoring 41 wins by stoppage during his 43-fight career.

On the other hand, you have many who believe Fury will once again outbox, the American and this time earn the just decision. At heavyweight everyone has knockout power, but Fury chooses to be smart with his work and Wilder has shown no chin issues so you can almost surely rule of Fury scoring a knockout win in this one. Whatever happens we are surely in for another fun fight between these two. Hopefully we’ll get to see the winner square off against Anthony Joshua and unify the heavyweight division in the not too distant future.

Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury rematch has received a target date which is sure to do great business for fighters and promoters involved. Their first fight took place on December 1, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and aired on PPV.

The fight with the WBC heavyweight title up for grabs ended in a split decision draw. The scorecard saw 115–111 for Wilder while 114–112 for Fury. The decision was highly controversial as the majority of people thought that Fury got it done with 115-111 on the scorecards.

Timeline

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, recently told ESPN that the two sides are in talks for the rematch. If a deal can be worked out then the fight wouldn’t take place in California and it would likely go down before June. It’s expected to do big business considering the first fight pulled in 325,000 PPV buys.

“The venue is looking like the U.S., that’s where the money is. Tyson was disappointed with the judging with the last fight. As I was, so a lot of things need to be sorted but the U.S. is where they want it. Probably in the second quarter.

“Vegas would be one of the options. I wouldn’t want to go back to California, I didn’t like working with the Californian commission. There were a lot of things we didn’t like there. Tyson is already in the gym working hard, ticking over. I think we would get it [the fight versus Wilder] before June.”
