It turns out it wasn’t head coach Jay Deas who threw in the towel during Deontay Wilder’s fight with Tyson Fury.

Wilder suffered a seventh-round TKO defeat to Fury in their WBC heavyweight championship fight last night in Las Vegas after his corner threw in the towel. That decision was made after the American was dropped twice by Fury and was taking plenty of punishment during the seven rounds of action.

“The Bronze Bomber” made no excuses after the fight even though he would have preferred to have gone out on his shield. Surprisingly, Deas felt the same way as he revealed it wasn’t him who made the call, but rather, fellow coach Mark Breland who overruled him:

“Mark Breland threw in the towel, I didn’t think he should have,” Deas said (via The Mirror). “Deontay is a go out on his shield kind of guy. He did not want that, Deontay is a fearsome puncher and he does always have that shot to land a big shot and turn things around.”

“… The head coach doesn’t always call the play. Mark said something about throwing the towel in and I said don’t do that. The fight went a little longer and I saw the towel go in. I haven’t seen Mark to talk about it but we will talk about it.”

Although it may not have been what Wilder or Deas wanted, it looks like Breland made the right call given how the fight was going. Deas also mentioned how a cut in Wilder’s ear may have affected his equilibrium.

“Deontay is doing well and he’ll be back and all the better for it. But congratulations to Tyson and his team.”

Was it the right call for Wilder’s coach to throw in the towel?

Deontay Wilder suffered his first professional defeat at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night. The 34-year-old heavyweight met Tyson Fury in a much-anticipated rematch of their December 2018 fight.

The first bout was highly
controversial after Fury dominated large portions of the 12 rounds before suffering
two late knockdowns. Despite the rally from Wilder, Englishman Fury had clearly
done enough to claim the win via the judges. However, the fight was ultimately scored
a split draw, paving the way for a monumental second clash between the sports top
two heavyweights.

‘The Gypsy King’ was intent on taking it out of the judge’s hands second time round. He went for the knockout from the first bell and scored a vicious knockdown in round three. Fury caught Wilder on the ear with a beautiful shot, sending the former WBC champion crashing to the mat. The Alabama native climbed to his feet but struggled to get any type of offence going. His ear was visibly bleeding and anyone with eyes could see he was on shaky legs. He bravely fought on for a few more rounds before again being dropped and ultimately stopped by the brutal Brit.

Following his first career loss, Wilder drops to 42-1-1 as a professional. It is his first boxing loss since losing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics semi-final. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was outpointed by Italian Clemente Russo. Six months prior he suffered his last knockout loss to Russian heavyweight Evgeny Romanov.

The American was transported to hospital immediately after the fight and therefore didn’t partake in the traditional post-fight press conference. In his place was trainer Jay Deas who said via Helen Yee. “A cut inside his ear may have affected his equilibrium. So, he’s just going to get a couple stitches there.”

injury the cause of Deontay Wilder’s defeat to Tyson Fury?

UFC President Dana White
opted to attend the eagerly anticipated boxing match between Deontay Wilder and
Tyson Fury last night. In doing so he missed his promotions trip to Auckland,
New Zealand which was headlined by Dan Hooker and Paul Felder.

As anyone on planet earth probably knows by now, Tyson Fury put on a dominant display to once again become a world champion. The British heavyweight went for the knockout from round one and almost got it in round three. Fury floored his opponent heavily, but the previously unbeaten Wilder showed toughness to fight on. However, by round seven the American had been down once more and was being battered, which forced his corner to throw in the towel.

White who was in attendance took time out to speak with IFL TV after the fight and he was seriously impressed by Fury’s emphatic victory, he said.

“He looked
incredible tonight man. You know I liked him to outbox him but not to like that,
holy shit! He abosluetly dominated him the entire time and he had power tonight,
hurt him with every shot and he looked incredible.”

The UFC boss admitted he didn’t think Fury was going to be able to knock out Wilder despite the heavyweight colossal claiming that’s what he would do heading into the fight.

“I didn’t believe
it either, White said. “I bet on Fury tonight.  I thought that he would win by out boxing him.
Although I did have rounds 9, 10, 11 and 12 for knockout, we were close.”

Speaking about former champion Wilder, White was full of praise for the true grit shown to continue fighting for as long as he did.

“He’s tough as
f*cking tough can be. Broken eardrum kept fighting and was mad that the corner
stopped it. It was a great fight!

Does Dana White’s presence at Wilder/Fury II mean Zuffa Boxing is ready for its launch?

VIDEO: Tyson Fury Refuses To Drink Water Over Spiking Fears

Tyson Fury put in the performance of a lifetime at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada last night. The Gypsy King dominated Deontay Wilder on route to a seventh-round stoppage victory. After handing the American his first loss, Fury claimed the WBC and Ring Magazine titles, cementing himself as the best heavyweight on the planet.

During his post-fight press conference, one particular moment caught the attention of some eagle-eyed viewers. In the video below Fury is handed a bottle of water from his trainer and former middleweight champion Andy Lee. However, he immediately questions were the water has come from. When his trainer points at the person who provided the water, Fury refuses to drink it. Clearly the Brit has some paranoia over potential spiking, check out the video below and see for yourself.

This is not the first time Fury has refused to drink after claiming a big win. The Brit beat long-time heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany back in 2015. As an underdog he emerged victorious with some superior boxing skills which confused and befuddled the Ukrainian great.

In the aftermath of the fight Fury believed the water in his dressing room had been contaminated and didn’t drink anything until he returned to his hotel. Speaking to The Telegraph about the experience, he said.

“After the
fight, I had it from good sources not to touch anything in the changing room
because they might try to drug me

“People were
trying to pass me all sorts of things but unless it came from my own baggage, I
wasn’t having it, there was no chance of me getting drugged.

“I went home
dehydrated before I even touched anything because I was so frightened of being
tested and failing the test because they’ve given me something. You can never
be too careful.”

Is Tyson
Fury right to be worried about spiking from Team Wilder?

Tyson Fury is once again on top of the heavyweight mountain in the boxing world.

Fury challenged for Deontay Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title in the main event of their pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada earlier tonight (Sat. February 22, 2020). Fury came out with a completely different gameplan from his first battle with “The Bronze Bomber.”

“The Gypsy King” brought the fight right to Wilder, keeping the pressure and never taking a back step. Fury dropped Wilder twice, including several slips, making the champion bleed out of both his ear and mouth. In the seventh round, Fury continued to unload on Wilder, who was looking dazed and completely out of it.

Wilder’s corner made the decision to throw in the towel and save their fighter from taking any more unnecessary punishment. Of course, Wilder was upset with the decision by his corner to throw the towel in, but accepted defeat and acknowledged Fury as the better man on the night. Fury responded by saying Wilder is a great competitor and will be a champion again one day. Now, Fury will begin his reign as the WBC heavyweight champion of the world.

What do you think about Fury finishing Wilder in the seventh round to win the title?
