Deontay Wilder

Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will again put his WBC title on the line when he faces Tyson Fury this weekend. On February 22 these two fighters will face off in one of the most eagerly anticipated rematches in recent years. It’ll go down at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in front of a sold out crowd and millions watching around the world.

The two men previously
fought in December 2018, with the fight ending in a controversial draw. Englishman
Fury out boxed his opponent for most of the fight. However, Wilder scored two
knockdowns in the later rounds to swing it back in his favour.

As part of the
fight week build up, BT Sport have put together an epic promotional video which
sees heavyweight great Mike Tyson hype up the fight.

In the video Tyson recites lines about the previous fight and what’s to come. All whilst footage and voice overs of both fighters play in the background. No explanation can do this video justice, so watch it below and get hyped for the biggest fight of 2020.

The former champion himself has made no secret about who he’ll be rooting for on Saturday night. Speaking to BT Sport he admitted his bias towards the Englishman due to Fury having been named in his honour, he said.

“I always root for
him because he was named after me. That’s the natural thing to do, right? I’m
biased towards him…

“I don’t care how hard you punch, it’s
hard to beat somebody who doesn’t wanna quit…

“It’s gonna be a really, really
interesting fight and both guys have something to prove. I just wish the best
for Tyson Fury, I’m always a Tyson fan.”

In just one week, the highly-anticipated rematch between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will get underway.

The event will be a joint ESPN and FOX-produced pay-per-view (PPV) event, matching up the two best heavyweights in the world. Now, it has been announced that the PPV price will cost buyers $79.99. If you’d like to watch in standard definition, the event will cost you $69.99. This is actually a discounted rate from the pair’s first fight, which cost $84.99.

If you’re watching in the UK, you can view the rematch through BT Sport Box Office for £24.95. That comes out to about $32.50 in the United States. Wilder and Fury fought to a controversial draw back in December of 2018. The fight was largely dominated by Fury, tecnique-wise, however, the only two knockdowns of the fight came from Wilder. The latter of which, arguably, could’ve been ruled a knockout.

Now, the rematch will finally take place from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, February 22. The main card will get underway around 9:00 p.m. ET. Viewers can purchase the PPV through traditional cable and satellite providers, the FOX Sports GO app, or ESPN+.

Fury Wilder

Tyson Fury remains confident of getting the victory over Deontay Wilder in their rematch — however, there is one concern for the Briton.

Fury challenges Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title once again when they collide on February 22 in Las Vegas. It will be Fury’s first fight since suffering a nasty gash above his right eye in his September fight with Otto Wallin.

Luckily for Fury, he was able to go all 12 rounds with Wallin and get the victory despite the cut, which required 47 stitches afterward.

And although a couple of months have passed since that injury, “The Gypsy King” believes there is a risk of it opening up again during the Wilder rematch:

“The eye is doing well,” Fury told Sky Sports recently. “The eye is healed up quite well. Is there any risk? I don’t know because I am not a surgeon.

“I am sure there will be. There is nothing much I can do about that. If it opens up it opens us. It’s out of my control. There is nothing I can do about that eye opening in a fight.”

On the other hand, Wilder has already revealed that he plans on targeting and opening the cut along with a new one as well:

“I will absolutely be using that cut as a target, and I am definitely going to open it up again,” the American said. “I will make sure I open that one up and I’ll make sure I open a new one up too.

“It’s going to be a bloody night for him and all I can say to him is ‘buddy rest up’, you’re going to need it, it’s going to be a long and painful night.”

Hopefully, the cut on the eye remains shut so fans won’t have to witness the highly-anticipated sequel prematurely ending due to a doctor stoppage.

What do you think of Fury’s cut on his eye potentially being a factor in the rematch?

Many boxers have talked about competing in mixed martial arts (MMA), but perhaps no transition from the sweet science to the cage would be more interesting than that of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

Wilder is currently preparing to defend his title in a highly-anticipated rematch with lineal champion Tyson Fury. “The Bronze Bomber” spoke to Tha Boxing Voice ahead of the contest, and was asked about a potential career in MMA. Wilder said “of course” to the possibility, and added his already destructive punching power could be even deadlier inside the Octagon. (H/T Talk Sport)

“I’ve spoke out about that before, of course, for me, I’ll fight you in my sport and I’ll come to your sport and do it too,” Wilder. “I feel MMA, they allow you to get on top of your opponent and bash his face in with velocity and speed coming downwards. Four-ounce gloves, I already talk about getting people out of the ring. But, that would definitely be the sport where I show it, man.

“It’s just different rules, different things. I’m built with a set of skills. I have a lot of intellect and a lot of knowledge of combat, period. So I see all the MMA guys always come to boxing because in boxing you have to stand on your feet. You have to be a motherf***ing man for 36 minutes.”

Wilder has already talked about killing someone inside the boxing ring, however, he believes he’d truly “end a life” if he stepped into the MMA cage.

“I wouldn’t mind going into [that] world as well too. One for one. May the best man win. You know, all this is fantasy talk,” Wilder said. “I don’t think anything will ever come to fruition. I’m just too dangerous of a man in any type of combat sports. I really would end a life because I have the power to, and that’s just the damn truth.”

Would you like to see Wilder compete in MMA? Do you think he’d be successful?

Dillian Whyte revealed former unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko knocked Deontay Wilder out cold during sparring back in the day.

Whyte was among many heavyweights who had traveled to Klitschko’s remote training base at the Stanglwirt resort in Austria. But what he witnessed was a grueling camp that saw Klitschko punish a number of contenders in preparation for his title defenses, including Sam Sexton.

“I was just trying to learn, and then I saw him knocking people out,” Whyte told Sky Sports. “I was thinking ‘you ain’t f**king knocking me out.’ I went in there and I went after him. … He broke Sexton’s nose. I said ‘nah. Woah, you’re not knocking me out. I’m coming.’

“I went in there and started roughing him up and having a proper fight with him. I got sent home for that.”

Wilder Knocked Out Cold

Whyte would eventually return while new faces joined such as current WBC heavyweight champion Wilder. “The Bronze Bomber” has established himself as the most devastating knockout artist in the sport today.

However, he was on the receiving end of a knockout while training with Klitschko. That is why he never had any plans on facing the Ukrainian when the latter was still active according to Whyte:

“I’ve seen him getting knocked out,” Whyte said of Wilder. “Wladimir knocked him out. He knew what happened. He had his hands up. He was roughing Wlad up, bringing the smoke, and he was going wild.

“Wlad backs up, changes his footwork, feinting, feinting, jabs to the body, throws that feint jab, left hook. Wilder had his hands up, he was gone. It wasn’t no knockdown, he was knocked cold. Properly twitching as well. That’s why they probably didn’t want him to fight Wlad, because Wlad was going to fight him as a pro and Wilder never fancied it the whole time.”

Fast forward to present day and Wilder is still WBC heavyweight champion. Anthony Joshua, meanwhile, holds the other heavyweight titles. Having suffered his only defeat to Joshua in 2015, Whyte still plans on becoming heavyweight champion in the future.

“You know what. I’m going to become a world champion, regardless anyway, whatever Klitschko thinks or believes it, I don’t care,” Whyte added.

“I have the mindset, I have the hunger, and I’m good enough. I still haven’t peaked yet, I’m still getting better.”

What do you make of Whyte’s revelations?
