Deontay Wilder has some advice for newly-crowned unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. following his shock victory over Anthony Joshua.

Ruiz Jr. beat Joshua in the featured bout of the event that took place on Saturday night (June 1, 2019) from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joshua’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles were on the line.

In the fight, Ruiz Jr. won via technical knockout in the 7th round. This was a shocking loss for Joshua, as it marked the Englishman’s first loss in his career. It also changes the landscape of boxing’s heavyweight division. For years now, many fans have wanted to see Joshua fight Wilder inside of the ring.

That fight has been delayed due to negotiation differences, while the fighters kept busy with lesser contenders. Wilder faced Dominic Breazeale in his latest fight back in early May. He knocked out Breazeale in the first round to retain the WBC heavyweight title.

Wilder recently took to his official Twitter account to offer some advice to Ruiz Jr. following his big win. He wrote:

“A huge congratulations to you Andy Ruiz Jr. for your upset win last night. You’ve been blessed to come out of the struggle and to become the 1st Mexican Heavyweight Champion Ever! Wow, that’s amazing and I’m wishing you many more blessings to come.”

“P.S It’s all up to you in what you do with this huge opportunity. There’s many perks that comes behind it. Blessings.”

Earlier tonight (Sat. June 1, 2019) Andy Ruiz Jr. shocked the boxing world in New York.

The Mexican-American knockout artist handed Anthony Joshua his first career loss, taking the unified heavyweight title home in the process. This throws a huge wrench into Joshua’s plans to face the likes of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury in the future. Both Wilder and Fury have offered their reactions to the upset.

Fury actually sent out a heartfelt message to his fellow countryman, offering him some words of advise:

“We have our back and Forth’s but @anthonyfjoshua changed his stars through life. heavyweight boxing, these things happen, rest up, recover, regroup and come again”

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s response, however, was much different. Wilder claimed Joshua never was a “true champion,” saying his career was built off lies and contradictions:

“He wasn’t a true champion. His whole career was consisted of lies, contradictions and gifts. Facts and now we know who was running from who!!!!”

Now, Joshua will most likely move on to rematch Ruiz later this year. Should the Englishman avenge his defeat and regain the titles, perhaps a fight against Wilder or Fury will still be on the table. Of course, it’ll be nowhere near as big as it could’ve been when Joshua was undefeated.

However, Ruiz Jr. is the champion and proved tonight he shouldn’t be overlooked. The heavyweight division moving forward will be very interesting to keep an eye on, indeed.

One of the desired ferris wheel of fights boxing fans want to see from the heavyweight division seems to be official.

Earlier today (Fri. May 31, 2019) it was announced by WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder that a deal has been agreed to for “The Bronze Bomber” to rematch Tyson Fury in early 2020. The announcement was subsequently confirmed by ESPN:

“Well, As I always say I’m the realest Champion in the business and as I’ve mentioned before I must handle all my Controversial Fights ASAP!! Luis Ortiz is first then Tyson Fury.

“By no means I’m I looking pass Ortiz, He’s a dangerous fighter but  I am looking through him. (Window Shopping) Shid, I’m the best ain’t No guess’N… what other champion Give you what your Miss’N…

“One fell to his Knee, the other on his Back… If you got questions then “We run it back”. All Contracts have been signed already!! it’s officially on!!”

Of course, these plans could be stifled if neither man wins their next fight. Fury will be taking on Tom Schwarz on June 15 on ESPN+ from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Wilder just signed on to rematch Luis Ortiz in September. Should both men win their respective fights, Wilder and Fury will be free to rematch.

The pair initially fought back in December where they fought to a draw. Many believe Fury out-boxed Wilder, who was the only man to score a knockdown in the fight (two). It should be very interesting to see how things play out a second time around.

Unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua plans on sitting down with Deontay Wilder in the near future to sort out a potential title unification fight.

Joshua defends his heavyweight titles against Andy Ruiz Jr. this weekend at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Should he have won, he was then expected to face WBO title-holder Wilder next.

However, Wilder confirmed Tuesday he would be facing Luis Ortiz next in a rematch that is set to take place in September. And so, boxing fans will have to wait even longer to see the two unbeaten heavyweight champions collide.

It is all the more puzzling given how Wilder spoke of how he wanted the Joshua fight right after his knockout of Dominic Breazeale earlier this month.

And for those reasons, “AJ” plans on reaching out to the American to find out what he really wants.

“I am going to reach out to Wilder to see if I can have a sit-down in person,” Joshua told BBC Sport. “What people say on camera is different to what people say eye to eye. So I have to sit down with him man-to-man and see where he’s at.”

Ruiz More Riskier Than Wilder For Joshua

Wilder is a devastating knockout artist, even more so than Joshua. However, the Briton believes Ruiz is more dangerous given how a loss would be one of the biggest upsets ever.

Instead, he would rather just challenge for Wilder’s WBO crown for a chance to become the first heavyweight champion to hold all four major belts.

“Fighting the Ruizes of the world is more dangerous than fighting the likes of Wilder,” Joshua added. “Why would I fight talent who has potential to beat me when I can just fight Wilder, who is talented but who has what I want?

“I’d rather take the Wilder opportunity. I don’t want to keep fighting these guys, I want to get straight to the big fights.”

Joe Rogan Wants Francis Ngannou vs. Deontay Wilder: ‘He Might Connect’

They might be in different sports, but Francis Ngannou and Deontay Wilder is one cross-code fight UFC commentator Joe Rogan wants to see.

Wilder continued to show why he’s arguably the most devastating knockout artist in boxing today following his first-round finish of Dominic Breazeale earlier this month to defend his WBC heavyweight title.

In MMA, the closest thing right now to “The Bronze Bomber” is Ngannou, who has won seven of his eight UFC wins by knockout. With “The Predator” also boasting scary knockout power, Rogan wants to see the two heavyweights collide in a boxing ring.

He even believes Ngannou has a chance, given Wilder’s fighting style.

“Mark my words, if Francis Ngannou decides to jump ship and go to heavyweight boxing, he will nuke some fools,” Rogan said on a recent episode of his podcast (via BJ Penn). “It’s going to take a long time to get to Wilder’s level. Wilder’s a world champ. He’s undefeated.

“Francis Ngannou’s not ready to box with Wilder right now, but let me tell you something… he might connect. Wilder’s not the slickest guy in the world. We’re not talking about Muhammad Ali or Floyd Mayweather… He most gets by on power and range.”

Ngannou’s Striking Credentials

Rogan backed up his argument by noting how Ngannou comfortably dealt with Alistair Overeem — a former K-1 Grand Prix winner.

He did, however, point out how only former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic was able to withstand the Cameroonian’s power.

“If Francis Ngannou has a problem with grappling, what does he not have a problem with? Striking,” Rogan added. “He KOs Alistair Overeem. Alistair Overeem is a world class striker. He’s a kickboxer at the highest level, wins the K-1 Grand Prix. I mean, he’s knocked out Badr Hari, he’s beaten ‘Turkish Tyson’ (Gokhan Saki), he’s beaten some good guys.

“Francis Ngannou, everyone he connects with other than Stipe [Miocic], goes night night. Stipe is the only guy. Stipe figured out how to use his championship mettle, use his grit, use his takedowns, and won the fight.”

Do you think Ngannou would be able to knock Wilder out in a boxing ring?
