Heavyweights Travis Browne and Derrick Lewis will meet at UFC 208 in February in a key contest for the division.

Browne has put himself up against the best of the best, while Lewis is ascending his way up the ladder.

When Lewis recently earned another victory, he called out Browne for a future date. That bothered Browne, as he explained to ESPN.

“He’s looking up and down the top 10 for the easiest fight and choosing my name,” Browne said. “I don’t know how much more personal it gets than that. I’m not usually one to talk trash, and I do respect him as a fighter, but you want to test yourself, buddy? I’m your man. I’ll show you what this (expletive) is all about up here.”

Browne, 34 years old, has dropped three of his last four and is just 2-4 over his last six. All four defeats, though, have come at the hands of former UFC heavyweight champions in Cain Velasquez, Andrei Arlovski and Fabricio Werdum (twice). He started out his run 16-1-1 overall, including wins vs. Josh Barnett and Alistair Overeem.

For Lewis, this is a chance to cement his place as a top contender. He has won five in a row, including four finishes, to improve his record to 17-4. However, the only notable name during that stretch that Lewis faced was Roy Nelson.

UFC 208 takes place February 11 from Brooklyn and the Barclays Center.

Set for February 11 2017 in Brooklyn, UFC 208 is quickly becoming stacked. Already featuring five confirmed fights, the New York card will showcase the first ever women’s featherweight title fight. Albeit without Cris Cyborg, the promotion will again make history in NYC. Holly Holm takes on Germaine Da Randamie in the main event, and the winner will enjoy the first ever UFC women’s 145-pound belt. Also taking place at UFC 208 will be a pivotal light-heavyweight scrap between Glover Teixeira and Jarod Cannonier.

Ian McCall and Neil Seery will (hopefully) finally collide, and welterweight prospects Ryan LaFlare and Roan Carneiro have unfinished business.

UFC 208: Holm vs. GDR

With still plenty of work to go in to this steadily growing card, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed a big heavyweight tilt in the making. According to this Tweet, Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne are on a collision course for Brooklyn on February 11.

Black Beast vs. Hapa?

Last appearing at UFC Fight Night 102 in Albany, Derrick Lewis defeated Shamil Abdurakhimov by TKO. ‘Black Beast’ said he was frustrated with his performance, but still extended his win streak to five with four finishes. Travis Browne’s recent UFC form has been a whole different story. Dropping two in a row to Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez, ‘Hapa’ has won just two of his last six bouts.

Once considered a future title contender, Browne’s form really dropped after 2013. Until that point, the big Hawaiian had only lost once in nearly five years, in the three years since he is 2-4. Victory for either man is key in this rumoured bout, but a loss would prove far more costly to Browne, who could easily get dropped for losing three in a row.

In our main event from yesterday’s (Friday December 9, 2016) UFC Fight Night 102 event from Albany, New York, No. 10-ranked heavyweight Derrick Lewis and No. 15-ranked Shamil Abdurakhimov went to war.

The first three rounds saw Abdurakhimov take advantage of multiple Lewis kick attempts, catching them and taking ‘The Black Beast’ down on multiple occasions. Lewis would get up almost at will every time, throwing and missing often, while Abdurakimov threw little to no strikes at all.

In the fourth round Lewis was able to get the bout to the ground, mount his opponent, and reign down a plethora of ground-and-pound to put Abdurakimov away for the fourth round finish.

Following his fourth round TKO in the main event of UFC Fight Night 102 on Friday evening at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York, UFC Heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis took part in somewhat of an odd post-fight Octagon interview.

Featured above is Jon Anik’s complete post-fight interview with the victorious UFN 102 headliner. As seen in the video, Lewis was somewhat emotional about his performance, despite picking up the “W,” and seemed to call out Travis Browne and/or Mark Hunt.

“I was gnona say I want Travis Browne or Mark Hunt,” said Lewis regarding his next potential dance partner inside the Octagon, however he continued, once again pointing to what he felt was a lackluster performance on Friday night against Shamil Abdurakhimov. “But this performance was some bullsh*t, so I’ma sit my ass down.”
