Ryan Garcia questions who would win in a hypothetical 'coked out' fight versus Jon Jones

Ryan Garcia is mere hours away from a 12-round title fight with Devin Haney — and yet that seems to be the furthest thing from his mind.

Returning to the ring on Saturday, April 20, ‘The Flash’ will look to claim the WBC super lightweight championship when he steps inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney

Unfortunately, in the weeks leading up to their highly anticipated scrap, Garcia has come completely unhinged on social media.

It all seemingly began with a post in March that had many, including Garcia’s ex-wife, legitimately concerned about whether or not he was still alive. Shortly after revealing that he was still alive, Garcia engaged in a bizarre interview with Andrew Tate which prompted the Nevada State Athletic Commission to request a mental health examination.

Continuing the trend, Garcia posed a question to his fans on social media that is sure to turn some heads.

Ryan Garcia

“Ok hypothetically, hear me out,” Garcia wrote on X. “Jon Jones vs Ryan Garcia. We are both coked out. WHO WINS????”

Jon Jones is certainly no stranger to partying with a little white stuff, but we’re assuming ‘Bones’ is a little too busy dealing with his latest legal debacle to get cranked up and have a slap fight with ‘King Ryan.’

Ryan Garcia booted from NY Mets games during fight week

Earlier this week, Garcia was booted from a New York Mets game where he was scheduled to throw out the first pitch.

Both Garcia and his opponent, Devin Haney were in attendance and set to participate in the festivities ahead of the Mets-Pirates game on Tuesday night at Citi Field. However, stadium officials decided to pull the plug at the last minute, prompting Garcia to post yet another rant on social media.

‘’Yo guys, the Mets just wasted three hours of our life,” Garcia shouted on social media. “To say at the end, ‘You can’t throw the pitch,’ for whatever reason. There was no reason, and they kicked us out for no reason. I’m personally gonna say f*ck the Mets. Don’t ever go to a f*cking Mets game again, f*ck the Mets.’’

Ryan Garcia

According to Chris Mannix, a senior writer for Sports Illustrated, the Mets were afraid that having both Garcia and Haney together would result in a repeat of their viral altercation atop the Empire State Building.

“Bizarre scene tonight at Citi Field in New York, where Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia were scheduled to throw out the first pitch of Mets-Pirates,” Mannix wrote on X. “Mets officials pulled the plug on it after the fighters arrived, I’m told by sources with direct knowledge, because they didn’t want to risk an incident on the field. Haney and Garcia, who will face off Saturday at Barclays Center, scuffled at the Empire State Building earlier today.”

KSI calls for Ryan Garcia to be pulled from Devin Haney fight: ‘It’s sad watching him have a mental breakdown’

KSI on Ryan Garcia "mental breakdown"

KSI, real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji, has called for Ryan Garcia to be pulled from his upcoming boxing match with Devin Haney following the former interim WBC lightweight champion’s “mental breakdown” in recent weeks.

Garcia has been the subject of multiple headlines, many of them stemming from his increasingly erratic behavior that has fighters, fans, and those close to him genuinely concerned for his well-being. Social media star and part-time boxer KSI suggested that Garcia needs to seek help and should be removed from his title tilt with Haney for the time being.

“Cancel the Ryan Garcia fight and actually get him some help,” KSI wrote on X. “It’s sad watching him have a mental breakdown publicly like this.”

Unfortunately, the chances of Garcia vs. Haney being canceled, or even postponed seem unlikely. However, it does appear that ‘The Flash’ is attempting to refocus on his April 20 boxing match rather than some of the more disturbing content he’s been putting out into the world as of late.

“I Ryan Garcia, will not be speaking or tweeting or writing anything other then My Fight “Boxing” and Sports. All topics of discussion will be discussed after my fight,” Garcia wrote on social media. “5 weeks of focus. You have my word I’m locked in I’ll see you 4-20.”

He followed that up with another post, writing: “As I’ve stated I will only be talking about boxing, let’s see who’s really listening! Ask me any “Boxing” QUESTION? On plane back to go train with Derrick in Dallas. So why not do a Q&A of Boxing and Sports!”

Sean O’Malley Comments on Ryan Garcia’s Downward Spiral

Ryan Garcia’s downward spiral seemingly began with a confusing post that referenced his own death and Satan. He attempted to explain himself in a video two days later but provided little answers. From there, he engaged in a deranged conversation with controversial combat sports figure Andrew Tate, claiming that someone had tied him up in the woods and forced him to watch illegal acts being perpetrated on children.

His meltdown continued online where he spammed his X account with posts about aliens, Bohemian Grove, and peace in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley attributed Garcia’s behavior to a substance abuse problem telling reporters, “Cocaine’s a hell of a drug.”

Ryan Garcia faces off with Devin Haney

The press conference between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney erupted into allegations of drug use.

On Saturday, April 20, Haney will put his WBC super lightweight title on the line against ‘The Flash’ in a bout scheduled to emanate from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Ahead of their highly anticipated clash, the two warriors met at a press event in Los Angeles to promote the bout.

While there, Garcia struggled to speak at times, citing a sore throat. That led Haney to accuse Garcia of using cocaine and suggesting that the former interim lightweight champion stop partaking in the substance to help preserve his voice. Garcia immediately denied the allegations.

“I want to clarify some things,” Garcia said as Haney continued to levy allegations. “I don’t do cocaine. I would do a live drug test… I drink, and I smoke weed, and so has the majority of this room. You finally got somebody that raised their hands saying I’m real, I’m like this, I do drink, I do smoke, now what? Guess what? We all have flaws, and we all evolve as people.

It’s the second time this week that Ryan Garcia has found himself the subject of many a headline.

During an appearance on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, ‘King Ryan’ claimed that he would “destroy” UFC bantamweight world champion Sean O’Malley inside the Octagon. That sparked a bitter back-and-forth between the two combat sports stars, ending with ‘Sugar’ stating that he would kill Garcia “within minutes.”

Garcia goes into his title fight with Haney carrying a 24-1 record, his lone loss coming against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in April 2023. He has since bounced back with an eighth-round KO of Oscar Duarte in December.

Haney, on the other hand, is undefeated in his pro boxing career with a 31-0 record, 15 of those victories coming by way of knockout.

Devin Haney retained his undefeated record on Saturday night, scoring a decisive victory over Regis Prograis.

Emanatating from the Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif, Haney (30-0, 15 KO) delivered another dominant performance to claim the WBC super lightweight world championship. Through 12 rounds of action, Haney was in complete control, essentially playing with his prey throughout the 36-minute affair.

The most exciting moment of the bout came in the third round when Haney landed a big right hand that put Prograis on the canvas momentarily.

Prograis managed to get up and make it through the remainder of the fight, but never posed much of a threat from that point on.

Official Result: Devin Haney def. Regis Prograis via unanimous decision (120-107, 120-107, 120-107)

Reigning unified lightweight world champion Devin Haney found himself under fire in 2020 after making the claim that “no white boy” could ever beat him in the boxing ring.

“I can tell you this — I will never lose to a white boy in my life,” Haney said in an interview with 78SPORTSTV’s YouTube channel. “I don’t care what nobody got to say. Listen, can’t no white boy beat me, I don’t care, on any day of the week. I fight a white boy like 10 times, I’m gonna beat him 10 times.”

Khamzat Chimaev did not take kindly to Haney’s comments, recently revealing that it prompted him to unfollow the undefeated boxer on social media. ‘Borz’ also went so far as to dub ‘The Dream’ as a racist more than three years removed from the controversial remarks.

“I unfollowed him after that video. He’s too arrogant,” Chimaev said in a video on social media. “He said he’ll never lose to a white boy. That’s racist. If I say I’ll never lose to a black guy, the world will be like, ‘Khamzat doesn’t like black people.’ Black guys can fight white guys. What’s the difference? The goal is the same.”

He continued, “When a black guy says that, it’s no big deal. If I say that, the whole world will discuss it. I got black friends and white friends. I don’t care if you’re black, white, orange, blue.”

Haney Offered an Apology Shortly After Making the Controversial Comment

Shortly following his comments, Haney attempted to mitigate the damage via a couple of posts on social media.

“I’m not racist and I never will be a racist. I’m chasing greatness,” he said in his first post.

He then posted: “I just had a very positive conversation with Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, and confirmed to him directly my commitment to be a role model and my absolute rejection of discrimination of any kind.”

Though the comments have largely been forgiven and forgotten in the combat sports community, it’s clear that Khamzat Chimaev is still holding onto that grudge.
