Diego Sanchez will fight for the first time since being released by the UFC when he squares off against Kevin Lee in a 165lbs bout on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC 46 on March 11.
During a recent interview with FanSided, Sanchez commented on Nurmagomedov’s decision to exclude ring girls from Eagle FC shows.
“He doesn’t want ring girls in there, there’s no ring girls, you know what I mean? And no disrespect to the ring girls, you know, like that’s Vegas and that’s selling sex,” Sanchez said. “He’s aware of that and he’s like that’s not what I want to do in Eagle FC. You know, Khabib [Nurmagomedov] has been real big on his faith. You know, he has a mountain of faith, in god, and that’s the man I am too. Even though our belief systems maybe a little different, we both believe in a God and so to be able to come into Eagle FC, get my opportunity to fly like an eagle and spread my message. My message is a God message.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)
“Look, I don’t want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts,” Nurmagomedov said back in August 2021. “What is their purpose? I have a question. You can show that it is the second round on the screen.”
“I realize that is a history. History knows many mistakes. We read history to avoid mistakes of the past in the future. If we look in the history, it says they are useless. That is my personal opinion…
“For example, I sit with my father. Every person has his own preferences, the culture and values. I come to Fight Night, sit with my father. These people are passing by and showing that it is the second round. But no one looks at the plate,” Nurmagomedov added.
“I feel uncomfortable with my father. I am not against it. If you want you can do it, but don’t impose it to me, do it aside. There are the designated places for it. I think we must not mix all of it. This is my private opinion.”

Former UFC veteran Diego Sanchez thinks UFC star Conor McGregor isn’t the best role model for young people in today’s generation.
Sanchez is set to make his MMA return at Eagle FC 46 against another former UFC standout, Kevin Lee. Sanchez parted ways from the UFC in 2021 following a tense split that included his former manager Joshua Fabia sparring with the UFC brass.
Sanchez may be on the tail end of his combat sports career but remains a prominent presence in MMA. His opinions are always intriguing to MMA fans, especially after he recently alluded that McGregor is a poor influence.
Diego Sanchez Tabs Conor McGregor As Poor Influence
“Now, I wanna help the youth of the next generation. I wanna be a positive, motivating inspiration and just a good influence for these kids,” Sanchez said. “Because you got guys out there like Conor McGregor that are giants of influences. And drinking Proper Twelve and hitting old men is not really a good influence to be spreading for the youth of the next generation.
“So I’m doing my best to do my part. And that’s why I do free seminars with kids. Anybody wanna fly me out to anywhere in America in the world, wherever, I’ll do a free seminar for the kids. Anywhere, anytime. I’ll go make that time to work with the youth of the next generation because they’re the ones that need the most because they’re the ones that are gonna keep us going and eventually be taking care of us.” (h/t MMANews)
McGregor is a former two-division UFC champion who skyrocketed to arguably the biggest star in combat sports. He’s anticipating a return to the cage later this year.

Diego Sanchez is hoping to use his position in the sport to be a positive influence on the next generation and believes some fighters with a larger platform have fallen short in doing so.
Diego Sanchez is a 20-year veteran of the sport who the MMA community has witnessed grow right before their eyes, beginning with his time on The Ultimate Fighter series in 2005. Since then, we’ve witnessed all the highs and the lows of Sanchez’s MMA journey. But one thing that has always remained constant is his love for the sport and the connection he has with the fans.
Speaking with MMA Junkie, Sanchez opened up on his desire to be a beacon of inspiration for the next generation with no strings attached. He also provided one notorious example of someone he feels has fallen short in that area.
“Now, I wanna help the youth of the next generation. I wanna be a positive, motivating inspiration and just a good influence for these kids,” Sanchez said. “Because you got guys out there like Conor McGregor that are giants of influences. Anywhere, anytime. Sanchez has indeed been very charitable with his time and actions for his fans. In 2017, he even participated in an “exhibition” fight with a superfan who had Down syndrome to help make the fan’s dream.
McGregor also came to Sanchez’s defense when the TUF winner was involved with controversial manager Joshua Fabia. After a video was released last year of Sanchez taking blows from Fabia while hanging upside down, McGregor spoke up and advised Sanchez to take a different path.
Diego Sanchez’s next professional venture features his first MMA fight outside of the UFC in 18 years and his first fight since 2020. He will be taking on Kevin Lee on March 11 in a 165 lbs. bout for the Eagle FC promotion.

It appears Paddy Pimblett and Sean O’Malley have squashed their beef.
The UFC prospects had previously exchangedshots through various media platforms but now appear to be firm friends after playing a game on Twitch together.
During a recent Q&A session, Pimblett was asked about his opinion on O’Malley and gave a surprisingly nice appraisal of the #12 ranked bantamweight.
“Don’t mind [Sean] O’Malley. Like watching him fight,” Pimblett said. “He’s an entertaining fighter and he’s entertaining on the mic. We were just talking to him on Twitch before, it was quite funny to be honest.”
‘Suga’ thanked ‘The Baddy’ for joining him on a raid and expressed his belief that the two were now buds while trying to imitate Pimblett’s accent.
“Oh shit! Paddy the Baddy f***ing hosted me,” O’Malley said. “Paddy I feel like we’re buds. So we’re like not buds but we’re buds, you know what I mean. Appreciate the raid dude. Congrats on all your f***ing success. And can wait to watch your next fight. Paddy, thank you lad. F***ing thank you. F***ing thank you. Appreciate you with the raid. F***ing brilliant.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)
Paddy Pimblett Lays Into UFC Hall of Famer
The Englishman may have just settled one issue but another has quickly popped up.
Diego Sanchez clearly isn’t a fan of Pimblett and let him know that by commenting a bunch of clown emojis on a social media post that related to ‘The Baddy’
Pimblett didn’t take the disrespect laying down and instead launched a full-scale attack on Sanchez, he wrote.
“Lad r u really trying to call me a clown?! Go and get brainwashed by the fabia dude again like he’s ur cult leader u dumb mother fucker ur the laughing stock of this whole sport! Ever talk sh*t about me again u fuckin has been I slap ur ass up.”
Fast-forward to Christmas weekend and multiple sources have now confirmed that Lee will debut in the promotion against the original Ultimate Fighter, Diego Sanchez. Like Lee, Sanchez will also be competing for the first time since his UFC release. This bout will be contested at 165 lbs.
Between the two of them, these competitors are 0-3 in their last three fights. In Lee’s case, he is 1-4 out of his last five, with losses to Al Iaquinta; Rafael dos Anjos; reigning UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira; and most recently, Daniel Rodriguez. Prior to these struggles, Lee once put himself in a position to challenge for the UFC interim lightweight championship and strung together five consecutive UFC victories at one point.
Diego Sanchez made headlines this year for his tumultuous split first from the UFC and then from his mentor and trainer Joshua Fabia. There were talks of Sanchez potentially joining Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, but now we have learned that “The Nightmare” has decided to take his talents to the Eagle FC instead. This news comes after Sanchez’s recent health scare in his battle against COVID-19. He most recently competed in September 2020 in a loss to Jake Matthews.
MMA News will bring you full coverage of this March 11 Eagle FC card as well as any relevant updates in connection to this bout.
