It was a big weekend for former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington.
“Chaos” took home a landslide unanimous decision victory over former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in their UFC Newark main event. Covington was able to outclass his former American Top Team (ATT) training partner for five rounds with relentless pressure. After his win, Covington received a phone call from United States President Donald Trump.
Speaking to media after the event, Covington revealed what the United States President had to tell him after his win. (via MMA Junkie)
“Donald Trump, Mr. President, he tweeted out support for me before the fight, and then after the fight, he gave me a call,” Covington said. “He just said he appreciates everything I’ve done. He wants me to come back to the White House and shake his hand again and hang out with him in the Oval Office.
“He just appreciates how much I do and the hard-working American. I haven’t been given anything. I’ve had to work and earn everything I have. This (fight) was a landslide, just like it’s going to be a landslide in 2020.”
Covington is undoubtedly Trump’s favorite UFC fighter, as the pair met following Covington’s interim title victory last year. Now, he has a chance to become the undisputed 170-pound champion of the world, as he’s the likely next challenger for Kamaru Usman’s throne.
The pair set up the likely meeting with a tense post-fight interview on ESPN+.

It’s safe to say that former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington had a great weekend.
“Chaos” made it seven wins in a row following a dominant decision victory over former champion Robbie Lawler in the UFC Newark headliner last night. He is now in line to face current champion Kamaru Usman next in what should be a huge welterweight showdown.
Covington also had the recognition and support of the Trumps. Before his fight, President Trump wished him well on Twitter while Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump were in attendance showing their support for him.
However, Covington’s night was undoubtedly topped off when he received a congratulatory call from Trump following the win.

Colby Covington might be flanked by the Trump family when he takes on Robbie Lawler at UFC Newark later this summer.
Speaking to BJPenn.com recently, “Chaos” noted that he was told by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the sons of current United States President Donald Trump, during a recent visit to Trump Tower, that they’d attend his next fight.
Covington was recently announced for his Octagon return at UFC Newark on August 3, where he’ll take on ex-welterweight champion Robbie Lawler:
“I was over at the Trump Tower when I went and visited the troops for three weeks. So, I had a good meeting with them up at Trump Tower,” Covington said. “They said they would be at my next fight. So I’m excited, man, having Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the first family there.
“It’s going to be an incredible experience. The atmosphere is going to be electric and you know, we’re going to put on a show for ESPN. They’re going to be very excited. They’re going to get more than their money’s worth.”
Now the former interim champion has some extra motivation to perform against “Ruthless,” who will certainly bring some stylistic problems to the table for Covington. However, he’s confident he can get the job done:
“All I do is win, man,” he said. “I’m undefeated, undisputed, I’m the best fighter that’s ever walked in the UFC welterweight division. So you know, they can expect to see what I always do, and that’s win. Some people are addicted to drugs.
“Some people are addicted to alcohol, some people are addicted to sex and cheating on their taxes. I’m addicted to winning, just like our President Trump. So that’s what we’re going to do on August 3. We’re going to go out there and win. And that’s why I’m the great American winning machine.”

It’s no secret that former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington is a staunch supporter of current United States President Donald Trump and the Trump family.
Covington visited President Trump at the White House shortly after his interim 170-pound title victory over Rafael dos Anjos back in June. He has also stated numerous times that President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., will try to attend his next fight in person.
Recently, Covington paid another visit to the Trump family, this time visiting Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower in New York City. “Chaos” said he also got to spend time with President Trump’s other son, Eric Trump. Check out Covington’s picture with Donald Trump Jr. below:
“It was truly a humbling experience to stop by @trumptower and spend some time with @donaldjtrumpjr and @erictrump! Can’t thank you enough for all you and your family do for this country!”
Covington hasn’t competed since defeating dos Anjos for the interim title back in June. He has since been stripped of that title due to inactivity. However, after Kamaru Usman dethroned Tyron Woodley from the top of the 170-pound mountain, UFC President Dana White has confirmed Covington will be his first challenger.
No official fight announcement or date has been made, but the news is expected to be made official very soon.
