It took a while, but Antonio McKee has finally played the race card against the UFC when attempting to explain why he was dropped by the promotion after just one loss in the Octagon.

McKee spoke to Layzie the Savage from MiddleEasy recently and had some interesting things to say about Zuffa’s stranglehold on the sport or on black fighters, depending on how you interpret his racially-infused rhetoric.

“Get ready guys. We got some new slave masters…new plantation…new slave plantation, the UFC, you know? Nothing personal. It was an honor to fight there, but you got to look at the politics behind the sport still and it drives me crazy and that’s why I got my license as a promoter. I’m gonna try to alleviate that sort of stuff.”

McKee, who has stated in the past that the n-word has a different meaning to him than the one it has for the rest of the human race apparently has a vision of plantations staffed by slaves who aren’t black, but are instead simply unapologetic for commanding respect.

“I won’t say race card, I’ll say more bias towards my style of fighting and my mentality. Actually, that’s a better way of looking at it…bias towards my mentality. I’m not the kind of guy that’s going to kiss butt. That’s just not what I do, but I’ll teach you respect and I expect to be respected. Unfortunately some guys have complexes…little man complexes, big man complexes…I don’t know, whatever. But at the end of the day I just want to be a good person and represent what’s best for the people in the fight game, that like the fight game.”

In regards to his rumored DREAM bout with Shinya Aoki, McKee says he’s been told the May 29 bout is on.

“I had to get my passport taken care of. I got my passport taken care of and as I was told right now, ‘Get ready. Start training for him and be ready to go come May 29.’ So that’s what I’m doing. I’m eatin’ doughnuts and drinkin’ soda pops and eatin’ Kentucky Fried Chicken and grape soda and apple pie, getting’ ready.”

I’m surprised he didn’t mention watermelon or infer that Aoki is chasing and eating cats to prepare for the fight. There’s still time I guess.

Lion TakeshiAnother featherweight contest was added to DREAM’s first event of 2011 as event producer Keiichi Sasahara revealed an intriguing battle of counter strikers on Monday. Reigning Deep featherweight champion Koichiro Matsumoto has agreed to square off with former Shooto 143-pound champion “Lion” Takeshi Inoue.

A bout between DREAM lightweight ace Shinya Aoki and former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner is being targeted, but sources have indicated that no bout agreement has been signed yet and negotiations may have hit a standstill. UFC veterans Antonio McKee and Willamy Freire were also slated to face Aoki but those bouts also fell through.

The May 29 “Fight for Japan” charity event will be a scaled down version of a regular DREAM event due to power shortages and financial issues following the March 11 Japanese earthquake. The current card for DREAM’s first show of 2011 is after the break.

Shinya AokiDREAM lightweight champ Shinya Aoki (27-5, 1NC) has confirmed with MMA-Japan.com that a bout with former WEC champ Jamie Varner has been scrapped. Aoki did not provide them with any information on a new opponent.

The DREAM champ is scheduled to fight on the upcoming DREAM: Fight for Japan event set to take place at the end of this month on May 29 at the Saitama Super Arena Hall in Saitama, Japan. The event features the quarterfinal, and semifinal rounds, of a Japan Bantamweight Grand Prix Tournament. Bouts for the final and third place will take place in July, with the top three fighters advancing to the DREAM World Bantamweight Tournament set for sometime this fall.

DREAM had been in talks with Varner, who is scheduled to fight on a XFO card this coming weekend, and had also been in talks with former MFC champ Antonio McKee. Brazilian Willamy Freire had been scheduled as Aoki’s original opponent, but Visa issues forced him out of the fight. This issue may be the catalyst preventing DREAM from securing either Varner or McKee as an opponent.

Aoki has four three straight mma bouts since his loss to Gilbert Melendez last year for the Strikeforce title. Since then Aoki has earned victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri at DREAM.15, Marcus Aurelio at DREAM.16, Yokthai Sithoar at a DEEP: 50 event, and earned his first victory on U.S. soil by submitting Lyle Beerbohm at the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley event.

Fight For JapanOn Monday DREAM officials added another bout to their upcoming end month DREAM: Fight for Japan event. Squaring off in a 143 lb bout will be former Shooto champion Takeshi Inoue (19-5) and current DEEP champ Koichiro Matsumoto (12-2).

DREAM: Fight for Japan is scheduled to be held on May 29, 2011 at the Saitama Super Arena Hall in Saitama, Japan. The event features a Bantamweight Japan Grand Prix Tournament, with the finalists meeting in July. The top three fightes will go on to compete in a World Grand Prix this fall. Also fighting on the card will be DREAM lightweight champ Shinya Aoki, Caol Uno, and Joachim Hansen.

This will be Inoue’s second appearance on a DREAM card after fighting almost exclusively for the Shooto promotion since the start of his pro career back in May of 2003. The former 143 lb champ recently earned a second round TKO victory last month at a Shooto event in Tokyo. The victory ended a two-fight losing streak which saw Inoue suffer a decision loss to Kazuyuki Miyata at DREAM.16 in his promotional debut, and a split decision title loss to Hatsu Hioki at a Shooto show in May of last year.

This bout will be Matsumoto’s DREAM debut and enters the bout on a five fight win streak. He was a former DEEP lightweight title contender, but after a title bout loss to Katsunori Kikuno in April of 2009 he dropped weight divisions and hasn’t looked back. Fighting at 143 lbs, Matsumoto earned three straight before defeating former champ Takafumi Otsuka for the title last August. His last fight was at the DEEP 51 event in December, where he earned a third round TKO victory over Shoji Maruyama.
