TOKYO, Japan — Alistair Overeem finally has an official opponent for his New Year’s Eve Dynamite!! bout as Todd Duffee was announced only two days prior to fight night as the man who is scheduled to stand across the ring from him.

Duffee, who flew in covertly only three days before his anticipated match up, commented on his decision to take the high risk/high reward fight.

“I think every opponent is risky. It’s MMA, that’s what it’s about. It’s a chance to fight in Japan and a chance to fight one of the best. I’m in the sport to test myself and not have some sort of padded record. I’m here to fight, that’s why we do what we do. I want to see what I’m made of and Alistair is a great opponent to do that against.”

K-1 MAX Japan Tournament Champion Yuichiro “Jienotsu” Nagashima will get his way as the first round of his Dynamite!! bout with DREAM Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki will be fought under stand-up rules.

The mixed rules bout will consist of one three minute kickboxing round followed but one five minute round fought under mixed martial arts rules. After those eight minutes if a winner has not been decided then the bout shall be ruled an automatic draw.

A notable bonus for the awkwardly unorthodox but highly powerful Nagashima is that the kickboxing round will be fought using the DREAM open finger gloves. The term “K-1 rules” has been specifically avoided for this reason although the rest of the K-1 rules including the three knockdown system will come into play.

The bombardment of South Korean island Yeonpyeong in November of this year along with nuclear tests in 2009 by North Korean forces has lead to the highest threat of war in the area since the Korean war ended in 1953. During this time of crisis, South Korea’s best lightweight prospect Won Sik Park, continues to fight at home and away.

“Parky” started his compulsory two-year military service in March of this year and has already fought three times: picking up two wins and scoring a knock-out over Ryuki Ueyama at Deep 48 but having the fight being ruled a no contest due to a rules dispute. On December 30 at Sengoku: Soul of Fight (ironically Sengoku literally means “warring states” and is a reference civil war in Japan), Park will face the toughest test of his career as he uses the last of his annual vacation to face Japan’s best lightweight prospect, Maximo Blanco.
