An intriguing lightweight bout has been added to June 4’s UFC 199 from the L.A Forum in California, as No. 10-ranked Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier is set to clash with Bobby “King” Green.
The promotion confirmed the news earlier today (March 14, 2016).
After competing primarily at featherweight over the past couple of years, Poirier made the jump up to 155-pounds last April, and has seen much success since, winning his last three straight.
“The Diamond” picked up an impressive knockout victory over Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night 63 which he followed with a TKO over Yancy Medeiros at UFC Fight Night 68.
Most recently, Poirier picked up a hard fought victory over Joe Duffy in a grueling war at January 2016’s UFC 195.
Green, on the other hand, holds a 4-1 Octagon record, and is coming off of a decision loss to vicious striker Edson Barboza. Prior to that, “King” had won four straight over Jacob Volkmann, James Krause, Pat Healy, and veteran Josh Thomson.
UFC 199 will be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between champion Luke Rockhold and former king Chris Weidman.
Dominick Cruz will also put his bantamweight title on the line in the co-main event of the evening as he squares off with “The California Kid” Urijah Faber in a highly anticipated trilogy match.
