Conor McGregor is certainly all in for a charity fight with Dustin Poirier.

McGregor recently challenged Poirier to a mixed martial arts fight outside the UFC with the proceeds going to charity. Poirier promptly accepted but many were uncertain as to whether this was a serious proposition in the first place.

That appears to be the case now as McGregor would later promote a “martial art sparring match” set to take place in Dublin on December 12. He even released a poster for the supposed event.

“Martial art sparring match in aid of charity. Dublin, December 12th 2020. Free to air spar. McGregor vs Poirier. List of chosen charities available soon. All donations welcome ?

McGregor made the challenge to Poirier after being frustrated with being kept on the sidelines by the UFC and having to explain the reason for his inactivity and callouts of Diego Sanchez.

Given that he last competed all the way back in January, most fans would not be against a charity fight with Poirier.

However, UFC president Dana White might have something to say about it.

Do you think this fight will happen? And will it be with the UFC?

Conor McGregor has taken issue with former two-weight UFC champion and the now retired Daniel Cormier.

McGregor recently revealed his DMs with UFC president Dana White showing that he was willing to fight anyone earlier this year — Diego Sanchez included.

Cormier, however, pondered whether he was truly willing to fight anyone and while speaking with Ariel Helwani, questioned why McGregor didn’t step in as a replacement once Khabib Nurmagomedov was unable to compete against Tony Ferguson earlier this year.

That led to a response from McGregor.

“I asked for May you fat fool, what you saying? I fought in January and tried to go again but was purposely held back to be an alternate for a July fight. Wait 7 whole f*cking months and “maybe” I’d get to fight? Are you stupid? What are you saying mate? I asked for May vs ANYONE!

“I asked for all these fights on February the 13th!! Corona didn’t exist. May/Anyone! August,Dublin/Diego(Just fought that night) End Of year/rematch. 4 fights/1 year. I was held back to wait it out to be an alternate for a fight many months away. There’s no other way to see this.”

McGregor then explained and defended his choice of wanting to fight Sanchez.

“For Dublin card. Baldy wanted rematch for end of year so I set a 3 fight run. May against anyone! Justin was named here, it could’ve been superman. Then Diego for hometown return. Then rematch end of year! Would’ve given me 4 fights in a year. Imagine the absolute sharpness then!”

“This is where the confusion is. Or where the usual gicksplashers in this business try go to. Diego fought and won that night in February when Im giving multiple dates to them for me to fight. 4 fights in one year and you think Diego in Dublin coming off a win isnt a nice slot in?”

Frustrated at not being able to fight, the Irishman then responded to a tweet from Dustin Poirier by challenging him to a charity mixed martial arts fight.

“Hey bro! You want to do an MMA charity fight? Zero to do with the ufc. I will donate half a mill towards your charity for it. Sell it on ppv or work a tv deal and we work out other charities that are close to my heart also. I am engaged in many. Strictly a charity “exhibition”

“December 12th in the Point depot, Ireland. No weigh ins. Open weight, unified rules. I will arrange all travel fare for you and family. McGregor Sports and Entertainment MMA, in association with The Good Fight Foundation. Charity Mixed Martial Arts!”

Poirier promptly accepted.

“I’m in! Lets do it! A lot of people will benefit from this @TheGoodFightFDN”

It should be interesting to see if this leads to any developments.

What do you make of McGregor’s tweets?

Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is confident his fight against fan favourite Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson will go ahead in 2020 despite that fact he has been unable to agree to financial terms with the UFC for the bout.

Poirier was supposed to face Ferguson in the UFC 254 co-main event on October 24. The winner would almost be guaranteed a shot at whoever emerges victorious from the nights main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje who are set to unify the lightweight division for a second time in as many fights.

‘The Diamond’ was unable to come to financial terms with the UFC for the fight. Dana White claimed Ferguson would remain on UFC 254 against an alternative opponent but that idea quickly fell apart and ‘El Cuccy’ was also pulled from the event.

Former three-time Bellator lightweight champion and the newest addition to the UFC 155lb division, Michael Chandler was announced as the back-up fighter for Nurmagomedov-Gaethje.

Poirier was offered the chance to square off against Chandler at UFC 254 according to Ariel Helwani but turned down the fight for a multitude of reasons most notable, the fact he is determined to face off against Ferguson next.

‘The Diamond’ took to social media yesterday to let fans know he is hopeful a fight with Ferguson will go ahead this year, he wrote.

Hopefully me and Tony fight this year. 2021 I will be the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.”

Poirier is coming off an impressive win against Dan Hooker earlier this year. The two men traded leather for five rounds but ‘The Diamond’ was the clear winner down the stretch and got a unanimous decision victory. Prior to that, he failed in his bid to unify the lightweight division, suffering a third-round submission loss at the hands of Nurmagomedov at UFC 242.

Ferguson is looking to fight for the first time since snapping his 12-fight winning run. ‘El Cuccy’ was battered by Justin Gaethje on route to a fifth-round stoppage loss at UFC 249.

Do you think Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson will fight in 2020?
