Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has joined a plethora of current and ex-fighters who are speaking out against longtime UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. The likes of Sam Stout, Mike Pierce, and Roland Delorme have shared the negative interactions they endured with Silva. Alvarez has now shared his story on social media.
‘The Underground King’ initially took to Twitter to tease fans about a run-in with the former UFC matchmaker, he wrote.
“While the Me too movement on Joe Silva continues …I got an incredible Joe Silva story myself but my momma always told me that if ‘I ain’t got nuttin good to say, than don’t say nuttin at all.”
Alvarez quickly caved and claimed Silva had humiliated him in front of a large group of people, he recalled.
”Ok ok…. So I am in the restaurant of a hotel a few weeks after the Anthony Petis fight eating by myself and next to me is Joe Silva with a group of buddies and I believe Sean Shelby they are having some drinks. I never interacted with Joe but I took the time to introduce..”
“Next I ask who my next opponent could possibly be and half joking half serious ask for the champion if he’s available…. Joe took the opportunity to tell me with the way I am fighting I’ll never get a title shot as long as he’s around, they all laugh….“
“At this point I am completely embarrassed, I want to hurt him but I just joined this promotion and this guy pretty much makes the rules. The funny part was he was standing and I could of swore he was fully seated. So I took the high road and went to my room in a rage.”
Despite Silvas statements to the contrary, Alvarez got his title shot quickly after although the UFC matchmaker wasn’t the one to call him with the good news.
“I get a call a few weeks later from Dana not Joe asking for the RDA fight…. I thought wow this one must of went over Joe’s Head. Joe 4 foot a lot of things. So I get the fight I wanted and Joe didn’t want. I KO RDA and win the world title in the 1st round. As I make my….“
Alvarez ends his story by recalling his interaction with Silva after claiming UFC gold.
”Out of the ring and in the back guess who is the first guy standing there… Yes Joe Silva…. No congrats no good job just a bitter angry small little man. I said nothing, nothing needed to be communicated I just a wink. Success is how you destroy your enemies.”

Eddie Alvarez is predicting Conor McGregor knocks out Justin Gaethje should they face each other next.
Although Gaethje is expected to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title unification fight later this year, there is uncertainty in that regard especially with the former’s father in critical condition in the hospital.
Should Nurmagomedov be unable to compete later this year, another option for Gaethje is facing McGregor, who has already called to face him.
Alvarez Expects McGregor To Triumph In Striking Battle
Alvarez, along with Donald Cerrone, is one who has faced both McGregor and Gaethje. He suffered a second-round TKO defeat to the Irishman at UFC 205 back in November 2016. However, he defeated Gaethje via third-round knockout a year later.
And based on his overall experience with the pair, he believes the fight will only go one way should it happen.
“I think a knockout,” Alvarez told The Score when asked how he saw McGregor beating Gaethje. “I was able to catch him [Gaethje] quite a bit with punches, and you watch Dustin [Poirier] was able to box him a little bit.
“The thing with Justin, if I thought he would implement a ground game and he was going to go in there and take Conor down and put him against the cage and do what Khabib did, or do what I intended to do, if he was going to implement that game, I would say, ‘oh, Justin is going to do really well against him.’ But just standing for standing, like a stand-up fight which is what I feel like it’ll end up being, I feel like there’s just too many mistakes that Justin would make and Conor would be able to kind of capitalize.”

It’s safe to say UFC women’s flyweight Lauren Murphy is not a fan of former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. It’s safe to say UFC women’s flyweight Lauren Murphy is not a fan of former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.
Murphy was part of Alvarez’s team during The Ultimate Fighter 26 back in 2017 leading up to the latter’s fight with Justin Gaethje. However, she would choose to train on Gaethje’s team later on in the season after clashing with Alvarez a number of times.
According to Murphy, a lot of what “The Underground King” did never showed up on camera and it included plenty of degrading behavior towards the female flyweights.
“He was really, really unkind to a lot of the women on that show, not just me, but a lot of the women,” Murphy told MMA Fighting’s The A-Side Chat. “I just happened to be the only one that would speak up or say anything about it, so it was that part that made it on air.”
“… He talked a lot of sh*t about the women, even the ones on his own team to the other women on his own team. When one woman would lose a fight, as soon as they walked out of the locker room, he would talk to the rest of the team about how they were quitters, they didn’t belong, they weren’t good enough to be there, they shouldn’t be there.
“I lost a fight, and the next day, he was like, ‘She’s not cut out for this sport.’ And he was telling my teammates that about me, and that’s not just me. He did that to all the women.”
Murphy went on to add that Alvarez never really respected any of the women, adding that one night he and a friend came to the house all of them were staying at and were drinking and watching fights without interacting with them in what she detailed as a “super bizarre” experience.
“… He treated us like we were all a bunch of jokes, like we were just stupid little girls with our stupid little game for our stupid little competition,” Murphy added. “He would be really degrading toward us.”
Alvarez has since joined ONE Championship and is yet to respond to these allegations at the time of writing.
Murphy, meanwhile, is currently on a two-fight winning streak with her latest victory coming in a split decision verdict against Andrea Lee at UFC 247 in February.
