Eddie Alvarez isn’t wasting any time getting back into competition after his disqualification loss to Iuri Lapicus at ONE on TNT 1 just weeks ago.

Alvarez will reportedly make a quick turnaround at ONE on TNT 4 later this month, after suffering little damage in his fight against Lapicus. Alvarez was disqualified from his bout at ONE on TNT 1 for throwing heavy shots to the back of Lapicus’ head, which is currently under review by ONE Championship.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong confirmed earlier today that Alvarez will make a quick turnaround after the controversial loss in his last fight.

“He is coming back to Singapore in short order, he will be fighting on ONE on TNT 4 and his opponent will be determined,” Sityodtong said during an interview with the South China Morning Post.

Sityodtong also said that Alvarez has a shot of breaking into the top five of the ONE Championship lightweight rankings with a win. Alvarez will fight the winner of Marat Gafurov and Ok Rae-Yoon, who square off at ONE on TNT 3 on April 21.

The former UFC lightweight champion is looking to make a statement in ONE Championship after losing two of his last three fights. Alvarez lost to Timofey Nastyukhin in his ONE debut by TKO and defeated Edward Folayang by submission before the disqualification against Lapicus.

Sityodtong also spoke out on the ongoing review of Alvarez’s disqualification loss by ONE Championship.

“Factually there were illegal blows, factually the referee did give two warnings. But factually I can also say the DQ is under review,” Sityodtong said. “Eddie and his team asked for a review and hopefully we’ll have the results over the next several days.”

While the quick turnaround for the 37-year-old Alvarez may be surprising to some, it’s clear he wants to exact revenge after his controversial finish against Lapicus.

Eddie Alvarez has revealed he is in “serious” talks for a fight with Oscar De La Hoya.

The legendary boxer announced his return to the ring earlier this month.

De La Hoya is set to headline a Triller pay-per-view event scheduled for July 3.

An opponent is yet to be named but according to Alvarez he is on the cusp of being booked to face ‘Golden Boy’

“Recently we’ve been hearing from Oscar De La Hoya’s guys,” Alvarez told ESPN. “I’m fixated on the ONE championship belt. I mean, I’m laser, laser-focused on making history and getting my world title. But I feel like, there’s going to be a lull. The champion is going to sit for a little bit. I think he’s having a baby. If that happens, Oscar De Lay Hoya and them guys have been reaching out. Hell, I’d love to get in there and mix it up with him. That’d be a hell of a fight. I’ve got everybody here in Philadelphia backing me and the whole of Philadelphia boxing to back me up. To get in there and mix it up with that guy would be a dream come true. I actually think I’d do pretty damn good against him. I’d be crazy excited if them guys figure that out.

The former UFC and Bellator champion later confirmed fight talks are serious and a deal for the boxing bout could be reached this week.

“Oh, yeah. They’re serious,” Alvarez said. “Like, wanting to get a deal done this week serious.”

Eddie Alvarez has called for his ONE on TNT 1 loss to Iuri Lapicus to be overturned.

‘The Underground King’ was left fuming after he was adjudged to have landed several illegal strikes on his opponent last night. He was promptly shown a red card and was disqualified from the fight.

Alvarez called for the loss to be overturned after watching back the fight ending sequence.

“I went back to my room and I was able to watch the clip of the fight and see everything and it was a bad call on the referee’s side,” Alvarez said at the post-fight press conference. “The American media is in uproar right now and so are the American fans. I’m going to respectfully ask them to look back at the video and reverse that call.

“All that matters is Iuri’s safety. That’s it right now. That he’s going to be OK. When I go back, I’m in the cage, so emotions run high. The referee, people make bad decisions when emotions run high. I think it was a bad call. I’m mixed emotions right now.”

Alvarez believes he did nothing wrong and should be awarded the win as his opponent was unable to continue.

“I just want to make sure that they correct this. It’s not right. What happened, it’s not right,” Alvarez said. “After looking at the tape and after seeing the outpouring of the media that’s basically saying something went wrong in there today on the judging side, I’ve just got mixed emotions about everything.

“I don’t see how it’s not overturned. I don’t discredit anyone based on what happens inside that cage. Referee, judging, all that. It’s high emotions and you have to make decisions based on a split second and I think the replay and after everybody goes back and looks will see everything was done righteously. I won fair and square. I’m not trying to anger anyone or climb up any trees. I won tonight. I won. I just hope that they go back and look at it and reverse the decision. I’ve made decisions in my past and I’ll be a man and step up and say that it was wrong. But tonight, I won. I think the American media and a lot of media know that I did and are pissed off about it.”

The former UFC and Bellator champion is now hoping to face the winner of Christian Lee and Timofey Nastyukhin who clash for the ONE Championship lightweight title on April 17.

“That’s what I’m here for. I’m here to make history,” Alvarez said. “I said it in the beginning when I came to ONE Championship. I’m here to make history. That’s what I’m here for. Let me make my history.

“These opponents are getting larger. Every time I come back, they’re getting larger and larger. They’re getting bigger and bigger. I don’t even belong in this weight class. I’m fighting guys double my size. Give me the champion.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)
