Adesanya, who headlined UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia, suffered a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Strickland in the pair’s championship clash atop the main card, dropping four out of five rounds on each of the three judge’s scorecards.

Now a former two-time undisputed middleweight champion, City Kickboxing staple, Israel Adesanya remained coy on his lacklustre performance and loss to Strickland following the event ‘Down Under’, however, UFC leader, Dana White insists that despite watching a “slow motion” performance by the former, he wants to see an immediate rematch between Adesanya and Strickland.

Echoing that sentiment of an immediate return to fight Strickland, Adesanya’s head trainer, Bareman claimed a December or early 2024 turnaround for his student is the most likely option for him next.

“Israel (Adesanya) has to inflict more pain and damage on this man (Sean Strickland),” Bareman told Submission Radio. “And what that’s going to mean is we have to find a way to do it and minimize how much harm we kind of put in front of them. … You’re going to see a real good fight, an intriguing rematch against a great opponent and a great time.”

“Realistically, end of the year, start of next year,” Bareman explained. “I said one week because that was me eluding to, I think the game plan is still there. It still exists. I think that there’s some mental things there that we can quickly adjust in a week and then get back in there, and we could see a completely different fight. Whether Sean’s able to impose those mental blocks that he put on Israel, I don’t know if he’ll be able to do that again.”

Robert Whittaker is one fight away from challenging for the middleweight crown again and Adesanya’s head coach, Eugene Bareman isn’t convinced by the UFC’s potential match making.

The former UFC middleweight champion lost his title to Israel Adesanya (24-2 MMA) by knockout at UFC 243 back in 2019.

Despite the loss, Whittaker went back to the drawing board and earned his rematch after beating the likes of Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and Kevin Gastelum.

‘The Reaper’ looked significantly better in the pairs rematch, however, Adesanya still prevailed once again this time via a unanimous decision at UFC 271.

Although some fans believed Robert Whittaker had done enough to win the rematch, the reality was that the Aussie had lost to ‘The Last Stylebender’ twice. Due to the circumstances, it was hard to picture Whittaker’s path back to middleweight gold.

Regardless of circumstances, the 32-year-old seemed unfazed, returning to winning ways against middleweight contender Marvin Vettroi by unanimous decision on Sep. 3, 2022.

While it seemed Whittaker would a tough road in order to earn a trilogy fight against Adesanya, UFC President has offered him a number one contender fight against rising prospect Dricus Du Plessis (19-2 MMA) at UFC 290 on July 8^th.

Even though, the South African is ranked sixth in the middleweight division and is on a seven-fight win streak, City Kickboxing head coach Eugene Bareman isn’t a fan of fight questioning whether Whittaker is ready for another title shot yet.

Eugene Bareman questions whether Robert Whittaker deserves a trilogy fight with Israel Adesanya

In a recent interview with Sky Sport NZ Eugene Bareman have his thoughts on the recent news of Whittaker and Du Plessis set to battle it out in a title eliminator at UFC 290.

He expressed his feelings on why he doesn’t believe Robert Whittaker is suited for third fight with the middleweight champion. Bareman further stressed that Whittaker has only fought once since their second meeting, while Adesanya has remained active enduring three fights In the same time.

“…We’ve fought him, and he’s basically been in the ring one time since then. Whereas we’ve just been tracking on, so, like, I don’t know,” said Bareman.

“We are who we are. Just put the opponent in front of us, and then we’ll fight. I mean, our preference is not to fight Robert again because we’ve obviously already beaten Robert twice, and he hasn’t really done anything since that loss to warrant him fighting again, so our preference would be the South African, but then the South African has to cross the line, and obviously, he has a very tough opponent.”

With Bareman also revealing that Adesanya will be competing at UFC 293 in Australia, what is left is to find out who the champion will face.

Headlining UFC 287 earlier this month in a middleweight title rematch with Alex Pereira, Adesanya managed to land the undisputed crown with a thunderous second round KO win over the Brazilian – reclaiming his championship in the process.

And in the immediate aftermath of his championship success, Israel Adesanya, who has been touted to make a return to the Octagon before the end of summer, was floated to make a light heavyweight division return in pursuit of a title fight against Hill, by his head coach, Eugene Bareman.

However, according to former division title challenger, Sonnen, any potential talk of a matchup between Jamahal Hill and Israel Adesanya and a subsequent title outing should be branded as “stupid”.

“Eugene Bareman went on Ariel [Helwani’s] program [The MMA Hour] – I try to stay away from Eugene Bareman,” Chael Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “I try to stay away from all coaches, I think coaches are above us. Eugene Bareman gets a lot of hate. He comes across as a combination of wildly arrogant and dumb as rocks. This is true – when he comes out and he sits with Ariel Helwani, he comes across as very arrogant – his ideas are so bad, he looks stupid.”

“He gave an idea for (Israel) Adesanya to go up and challenge Jamahal (Hill),” Sonnen explained. “Now you’re just being a guy that’s talking. Previously competing at the light heavyweight limit during his Octagon tenure, City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya suffered a unanimous decision loss to Jan Blachowicz in a 2021 title fight – with the Pole recently offering to drop to middleweight in pursuit of a title rematch.

As for Hill, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum has been linked with both a title fight against Adesanya, as well as former middleweight champion, Pereira – with the Sao Paulo striker confirming his intentions to make an Octagon return at the light heavyweight limit next.

Headlining UFC 284 last weekend against undisputed featherweight champion, Volkanovski, American Kickboxing Academy staple, Islam Makhachev managed to land a unanimous decision victory over the Australian, in a hard-fought back-and-forth over the course of five rounds.

However, in the aftermath of his victory, Islam Makhachev was hit with accusations of pre-fight cheating from Volkanovski’s teammate, Hooker, who claimed the Russian had hired a nurse to administer an intravenous drip to him following Friday’s weigh-ins.

In a bid to attempt to clarify the rules regarding the use of IV drips, former USADA leader, Jeff Novitsky claimed that fighters may utilized a maximum of 100ml of saline per 12 hour period, once deemed required and administered by a licensed physician.

And in a bid to address the accusations brought against Islam Makhachev, head coach, Bareman admitted that while they were lacking concrete evidence pertaining to any mishap, “something” had been going on.

“We have reliable information to a point,” Eugene Bareman told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “I will half plead the fifth. Can you half-plead the fifth? The two and a half? The information falls short because for several reasons, and one of them is that you can actually take an IV before a fight. It just has to be 100 ml of saline every 12 hours, in a 12 hour block. So what it has to come down to is whether you believe that people are going to take this saline, 100 ml, and then stop.”

“And the fact that from that team there were there were two fighters from that same team and the information can’t reliably tell us yet which fighter illegally hydrated or whether they went over 100 ml,” Bareman explained. “But I don’t know, no information can tell us without a doubt that someone in their team used an IV badge to rehydrate, which is not illegal if you used 100 ml. You’ve just got to ask yourself if it’s only 100 ml you’ve got to use for 12 hours, why would would you even bother?”

Following Hooker’s claims, Islam Makhachev’s manager and representative, Rizvan Magomedov rubbished the accusations, labelling them as “complete bullsh*t”.
