Heavyweight boxing legend Evander Holyfield says he wants to link up with UFC President Dana White in the future. The long talked about Zuffa boxing promotion will likely be launched in 2020 and Holyfield thinks it’ll be a success with White at the helm. Speaking on Sirius XM, the former cruiserweight and heavyweight boxing champion said he would love to be a part of it. (H/T Sirius XM)

“I think, Dana White, he had proven it when he
did the Mixed Martial Arts, he knows the stuff. I think that with him and the
way that he do things, it could be big. Hopefully if he do it, let me be part
of it.”

Holyfield believes its important to have elite level boxers involved in promoting fights as it brings legitimacy to it. Zuffa will certainly need some ex-professionals involved to help smooth the transition from MMA to boxing.

“I just think that if thing is going to grow for him, he has to have people who have been the very best. People tend to come and pay more attention when you have people like myself and maybe Floyd Mayweather, anybody who has been world champion, who was good, and there was no doubt that they were good fighters. This kind of draw to attention that makes things a little easier than it would if you think you can just do it yourself.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Dana White has already told media he and Floyd Mayweather struck a deal that would see ‘Money’ involved to some degree with Zuffa boxing. However, no details have been released on the arrangement or when the company will actually launch. With the likes of Mayweather, Holyfield and I’m sure a bunch more ex-boxers wanting to get involved, Zuffa boxing is sure to a success. Just don’t expect to see any MMA fighters crossing over, White apparently isn’t keen on that idea.

Are you excited about the launch of Zuffa boxing?

Slim, Articulate and Even-Keeled Mike Tyson Talks New One-Man Show [VIDEO]

(“It’s actually a Robin Givens voodoo bear.”)

Mike Tyson is one of, if not THE most polarizing figure in combat sport history, which makes his upcoming one-man show something we’re very interested in seeing.

Regardless of what you think about the once dominant and troubled former boxing champ, you can’t deny that he is an interesting person to listen to talk.

What’s amazing is that Tyson, unlike a lot of his counterparts, has actually become a much more thoughtful, articulate and seemingly more intelligent person through his self-education and quest for personal betterment after his retirement. Part of that stems from the fact that he didn’t incur much head trauma during his career as he was typically the one inflicting it, but the biggest factor in Tyson’s turnaround is maturity and the influence his wife and family had on his life.

According to “Iron Mike,” the introspective show will focus on anecdotes and stories from his life and will include the good, the bad and the ugly including his tumultuous relationships with Don King and Robin Givens and the infamous ear-biting incident in his fight with Evander Holyfield.

Check out an interview the healthy-looking Tyson did with USA Today about the upcoming show after the jump.

Video: Mike Tyson Talks About Where His Money Went, Pacquiao-Mayweather and His Hall of Fame Status

If you’re a Mike Tyson fan like I am, one of the toughest things to witness was the once thought unstoppable heavyweight’s fall from grace and prominence in the world of boxing.

Whether or not you think he’s guilty of the charges that saw him spend some of the best years of his life in prison is irrelevant to his place in Boxing Hall of Fame and the trials and tribulations the beleagured former champion has gone through in his life, from falling victim to the trappings of success to hangers on like Robin Givens to losing a child.

The interviews above and below are must-watch material for any current and former fans or for those who want to know what happened to Tyson, beyond what he touched on in his acclaimed self-titled documentary.

I have an autographed pic of “Iron Mike” in his heyday on the wall of my office that I’m looking at as I write this that depicts the champ like I remember him and before all of his troubles outside the ring caught up to him. That’s how I want to remember him, because I’m a fan of his performances in the ring back then.

According to a chapter in the recently translated PRIDE: Secret Files tome, PRIDE came very close to making former WBA and current WBF boxing champion Evander Holyfield into an MMA freakshow.

Fortunately for MMA fans, and for Holyfield who was able to turn his lagging career around the next year, the bout didn’t happen.

The card, which saw Jens Pulver’s chin exposed by Takanori Gomi and Anderson Silva caught by a textbook heelhook by Ryo Chonan turned out to be a pretty entertaining one even without the spectacle of a pro boxer versus a sumo wrestler.

No, he won’t be fighting, but these days the 48-year-old rapper and entrepreneur’s work affects the livelihood of fighters such as Nate Marquardt, Vladimir Matyushenko, Tim Kennedy, James McSweeney and more.

Hammer is the CEO of Alchemist Management, a marketing and management company officially launched last week specifically for a roster of MMA fighters.

“It’s just over the years I watched the world of MMA grow,” Hammer said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “It’s really exciting. I don’t see anything more exciting today than MMA and it got my fire stoked.”
