Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum has a huge test waiting for him, as he’s set to defend his title for the very first time against rising contender Stipe Miocic in the main event of May 14’s UFC 198 from Brazil.
While he’s likely not looking past Miocic, Werdum also has his eyes set on a potentially lucrative rematch in the future.
The Brazilian title holder recently took to his official Instagram account, voicing his desire to take on legendary heavyweight Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko in Chechenia if the UFC were to ever head there:
“I wish that, one day in the near future, Fedor and I can fight in the first UFC in Chechenia. I think this would be a glorious inaugural event in Chechenia, and I think the fans would love to see this competition between two legends. I know that Chechenia has a rich history in combative sports, and I also know that the president of Chechenia is a huge MMA Fan. He has his own team and he passionately invests and supports our sport. I would hope to make this dream come true someday.”
Emelianenko, a man many consider to be amongst the greatest heavyweights of all-time, recently returned to action after a three year hiatus, scoring a dominant victory over a rather unknown in Jaideep Singh last December at a Rizin event.
While he isn’t currently signed with the UFC, there have been rumors regarding a potential interest from Emelianenko in competing in the world’s largest MMA promotion.
Back in 2010, “The Last Emperor” infamously had his 28-fight unbeaten streak broken by Werdum when “Vai Cavalo” scored a monumental submission win at a Strikeforce event.
Would you like to see two of the sport’s most iconic big men run it back in the future?
