Former UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum is looking to return to the Octagon in a big way.

Werdum who is currently sidelined due to a USADA suspension and had requested a release from the UFC. Yet, he did not get his wish and will be able to return in May of 2020. Even though he is 42-years-old, the Brazilian is not eyeing retirement and even joked he is the real ‘Triple C.’

“I want to come back very soon, because I’m 42-years-old, and I’m young. My mind is very young,” Werdum said at the Dominance MMA media day (h/t BJPENN.com). This is the point. This is a secret. I come back, and I surprise you again. I shock the world again for sure, I just want to come back. Maybe four fights, five, I don’t know.

“I want to say stop when I want to stop myself not somebody says you stop fighting. That’s it. I want to stop when I say OK, I’m not good. I did everything. I’m a jiu-jitsu champion, grappling champion, I’m ‘Triple C’ too!” he joked.

Fabricio Werdum last fought back in March of 2018 when he was knocked out by Alexander Volkov. In the fight before, he had a decision win over Marcin Tybura and a submission win over Walt Harris.

Fabricio Werdum believes Fedor Emelianenko is the greatest heavyweight of all-time, not Daniel Cormier like many suggest.

‘DC’ beat one of the best ever in Stipe Miocic and if he can beat him again on Saturday, he will no doubt cement his legacy. Yet, according to Werdum that still won’t be enough to overpass what Emelianenko did.

“In my opinion, for sure (Cormier) is a very good fighter – two belts, different divisions – but the best fighter, in my opinion, is Fedor,” Werdum said to media members (h/t MMA Junkie). “He deserves (it). Ten years, he never lost before, and I believe Fedor continues to be the best heavyweight in the world.”

During the PRIDE days, he won 27-straight fights and went 10 years unbeaten as Werdum says. But, the first man to give him a loss during that time was Werdum. However, even though the Brazilian beat and finished him, he says Fedor is still the greatest ever.

“Not because I finished him,” Werdum said. “Before, I looked at him as my idol, but when I fought him, I wanted to finish him. That’s it.”

Regardless, it is a debate many fans, fighters, and media alike do. Everyone has different opinions but according to Werdum, it is Fedor Emelianenko who is the greatest heavyweight of all-time.

Francis Ngannou strikes fear into the hearts of many within the UFC’s heavyweight division. However, former champion Fabricio Werdum believes he’d finish “The Predator” if they met inside the Octagon.

Speaking to Sherdog recently, Werdum revealed that he has visualized finishing the knockout artist, as he has done before several of his UFC victories. He pointed out he did the same thing before defeating Cain Velasquez. (via BJPenn.com)

“The big guy, Francis Ngannou. He is a huge guy, a very strong guy. But, I visualize the fight with him and I saw when I finish him. I do this a lot, I visualize all my fights,” Werdum said.

“When I fought Cain Velasquez, remember when I won the belt? I visualized everything. I would go to Mexico, stay there for two months. And become very focused. I like the fight against Francis Ngannou. A big challenge for me, I know he is strong, but I believe I finish him on the ground.”

A potential fight between Werdum and Ngannou will have to wait. The Brazilian is serving a United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspension that is up in May of 2020. As for Ngannou, he is on a three-fight win streak, all victories coming by way of knockout. Those victories came over the likes of Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez, and Junior dos Santos.

“The Predator” does not have a fight lined up as of this writing, but it’s possible he gets the winner of Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic at UFC 241.

Fabricio Werdum has made numerous attempts to get his release from the UFC following his two-year United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspension.

At 41-years-old, the hourglass is running out on the former UFC heavyweight champion’s career in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Prior to his scheduled fight against Aleksei Oleinik in September 2018, “Vai Cavalo” was flagged by USADA after testing positive for the banned substance trenbolone.

Now, Werdum is to be sidelined until May of 2020. Speaking to Combate recently, Werdum revealed that his attempts to get his release from the UFC have come up short. As a result, he’ll wait out his suspension and fight out his current contract upon his return:

“I have two more UFC fights,” Werdum said. “I tried to terminate the contract, but they didn’t let me, because I’m a former champion and they still wanted me around, so cutting ties right now is out of the table.

“But if I had the possibility before, I would, because of my age, it would be better for my career. Since it wasn’t possible, I’ll stay fight two more times. Let’s see how it goes in the future.”

Werdum went on to maintain he did not knowingly take a banned substance. Instead, he believes his sample was contaminated, as his second test came back negative:

“I thought it was unfair, because I’m aware I didn’t take anything,” Werdum said. “I know it, I know it was a contamination. It’s tough because I have 28 USADA tests and never had a problem, but my background meant nothing to them. I think they made an example out of me because I have a big name and am used to be an UFC champion. They knew there was very little of the substance.

“The most surprising thing was that I tested positive, they didn’t say anything, they just came a week later to test me again and that one came out negative. Once again, this shows the contamination. I think they are experienced enough when someone is taking something on purpose and when it’s a contamination.”

What do you think about Werdum planning on finishing out his UFC deal once his suspension is up?
