Dana White On McGregor vs. Diaz II: “I Don’t Know If That Will Ever Happen”

dana-white-fs1-interview

UFC President Dana White appeared on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” on Thursday and spoke about the latest negotiations for a Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz rematch.

According to the UFC boss, putting together a McGregor-Diaz rematch has been “a little challenging.”

“We’re trying to set up a fight right now,” White said during his appearance on ESPN on Thursday morning. “It’s been a little challenging. I’m trying to get the deal done.”

White continued, explaining that despite being the reigning UFC 145-pound champion, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor is “obsessed” with getting a 170-pound immediate rematch with Diaz.

“Conor is obsessed with this rematch. I don’t know why, but he is,” White said. “It’s just his type of personality. He’s obsessed with it. He’s obsessed with fighting Diaz again at 170 pounds.”

While the negotiations for a potential McGregor-Diaz II fight are still ongoing, the UFC President did claim that he was unsure if the fight “will ever happen.”

“I don’t know if that will ever happen,” White said. “But I’m trying.”

UFC President Dana White announced on Thursday that Ronda Rousey underwent minor knee surgery on Wednesday and that her return, which was originally hoped to be taking place at UFC’s debut at Madison Square Garden in November, will be slightly pushed back.

Rousey, who had a successful operation this week, is expected to make her Octagon return on either the December or New Year’s Eve weekend events.

White confirmed that whoever has the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship when Rousey is ready to make her return in December, will be the person that “Rowdy” Ronda will fight.

Miesha Tate is scheduled to defend the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship against Amanda Nunes at the landmark UFC 200 event on July 9, 2016 at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Let Us Embrace What Urijah Faber, Dominick Cruz Have Given To MMA (Editorial)

Eight years ago today Urijah Faber successfully defended his WEC featherweight title with a decision win over Jens Pulver.

A few short months later, “The California Kid” dropped the title to Mike Brown and he has been chasing it ever since.

Faber will get another crack – his fourth since the WEC merged with the UFC – this Saturday to become a champion, as he takes on long-time rival Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 199.

At 37 years of age and with the division quickly filling up with viable contenders behind him, this is likely the best – and last – opportunity for Faber to say he is a UFC champion.

He attempted to re-claim WEC gold in 2009, falling to Brown via decision. A year later, he lost to Jose Aldo for the belt.

In 2011, Faber and Cruz went toe-to-toe for 25 minutes before “The Dominator” was declared the winner, evening their series up at 1-all. The rubber match could ultimately decide who is the best lighter-weight fighter of this generation in terms of American-born competitors.

The bout with Cruz wasn’t the only time Faber’s been inside the Octagon with gold hanging in the balance. He dropped a 2012 decision to Renan Barao for the interim title and was knocked out two years ago vs. Barao once more.

After suffering his first non-title fight loss to Frankie Edgar in 2015, Faber bounced back by defeating Frankie Saenz in December.

Luck then turned the way of the Team Alpha Male leader, as Cruz returned and bested T.J. Dillashaw for the title. While an immediate rematch between Cruz and Dillashaw could have worked, the fire that comes with pairing the two Californians together was too much for the UFC to ignore.

So we get another installment of this rivalry.

Faber and Cruz love to talk, especially about the other. But more importantly, once the cage door closes, both men deliver.

Saturday could very well be the final time we see them lock horns, so we better enjoy it!

Pavel Fedotov, trainer of UFC fighter Valentina Shevchenko, who is scheduled to be Holly Holm’s next opponent at the UFC On FOX 20 event in Chicago, Illinois in July, was shot and taken to the emergency room after a shootout at a restaurant in the Chorrilos district of Lima, Peru. Shevchenko was also there at the time of the shooting.

Three armed robbers allegedly entered the restaurant on Sunday evening, stealing approximately $1,486 from the cash register, as well as cellphones, wallets and other belongings that the customers in the establishment had on them at the time. The three also assaulted anyone who resisted in the robbery, splitting open the heads of three customers, according to a local report in Peru by media outlet, El Comercio.

The robbery and shooting of Fedotov was caught on camera, and Shevchenko can be seen running to his aid after the shooting ceased. You can watch the footage at ElComercio.pe.

Shevchenko is still currently scheduled to fight former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holm in the main event of the UFC On FOX 20 event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on July 23, 2016.
